I'm enjoying myself so far! It is fun. It isn't the beauty of origins, it is more like fanservice. But hey, we like fanservice. It does feel like a mini sequel, even though it is just an expansion.
yeah...........me too................

it's a nice expansion, but a
masterpiece certainly not...from a technical point of view - too many
bugs, from a game point of view - not enough new stuff (enemeis,
equipment, changes etc.) and from a lore/story view - the story is not
tied together well enough - it has some loose ends, does not connect
that well with origins (at least if you haven't read the novel)...some
decisions are also kind of wasted and the end-fight is pretty lame...
but its nice definately...really looking forward to da2 - hope they
will come up with a more interesting, twisting story, more complex
moral choices and a more active battle
what bugs??

Seriously people this expansion is ownage. I have played through it twice with my Hero of Ferelden, choosing different paths. Honeslty i find the game to be extremely fun and a great add-on to the original. The bosses in the game are creative and quite horrifying =p. The difficulty of the game may not be very high but....your warden is a seasoned veteran. What do you expect? He obviously cannot be succumbed by puny forces of evil. The new skills put your Warden on a whole new level of godliness. The new companions are excellent and I find them to be much more fun to play with than the originals. except morrigan of course. although the new elven mage reminds me of morrigan for some reason, just on the opposite side of the evil spectrum hehehe. All in all the awakening story is great, i thoroughly enjoyed it. The gameplay is fun, and the boss encounters are better than origins, in my opinion.
on another note: to people complaining about their DLC items not transferring...are you kidding me? Items from origins and the origins DLC are TRASH compared to the high powered killing machine loot you get in awakening. You wouldn't use your old gear for more than 10 minutes. Also you get very rich very quick in awakening so happy pimping out your character with godly items. =).
!!LONG LIVE DRAGON AGE!!
I disagree with ya.
I spected much more from this sequel. If you compare it to the first one, this game if far far shorter. You can't really talk to your teammates more than when they want you to talk to them. There is no romance in this game. The Keep whole deal is not that fun... I couldn't help my self to compare this with Neverwinter nights 2, and this game failed. In NWN2 you could upgrade so much for your keep, you could actually see how things were build. I spent 80 gold in the walls of the keep and i never saw them being builted or how they changed the looks of my keep.
I will give you that the action in this game is far more entretaining than the first one, but hey i found my slef rushing through content, intead of having to really explore the areas. All of your companions join ya almost right away. Once again, you don't get to really know them or feel a connection with them...
I like DAO but i really felt that paying almost the same for the expansion and the first one was not right. 40 bucks for this game is really expensive if you consider all that this expansion gives ya. A fairly price would have been 20 bucks, cause you get half the companions, half the levels, have the hours gameplay, etc, in summary you get half of everything but you get to paid the same as the first game.

So, is it me or is it extremely easy on nightmare? Does it become more difficult as you move through the plot? It's nice to feel like a badass, but I hope there are some hairy battles.
It's not just you. Nightmare is a cakewalk, even without crafting or taking advantage of the new runes. Don't expect it to get much harder.

Pretty much every bug that was present in the original sadly....
They didn't even give us the patch from three months ago (1.02) to fix dex which is still broken in the expansion. Also the ending glitch when Alistar is king when he shouldn't be, or your noble not being recognized as Anora's consort carries over making some ending choices non-existant really, and of course the save corruption bug is still there. As far as I can tell there was really no effort to fix most of the bugs, not even the ones that have fixes.
At least someone finally came to the forum to say they were working in it, the one good thing in all of this, but from what I've seen so far I have no choice but to be skeptical. Skeptical but slightly optomistic that the fixes we've been waiting for since day one might actually be coming.

Also, i paid $63 for the original (digital deluxe version) so paying $40 for this expansion doesn't seem over priced to me. I've also bought all of the available dlc. I'm not really sure why people complain about the $40 price tag so much. There are many full priced video games out there that are much shorter, especially for console. I personally would have paid $50 for the expansion.

But you have to admit that this game does not expand the soul of the first one... You can't really talk to your teammates, you can't get involved with them. Where is the romance? in the first one you could almost get involved with everyone in your party... For me this is only an action pack, cause thats the only really good thing about it... the fights are nice, you can't just charge at the bosses and hope for the best.

My reasons are yes it is buggy like every new game that comes out and gamers should know that.
and also that you cannot transfer some dlc armor but who cares there are like a ton of better armor in awakening.
This is an amazing game because its an expansion and not a sequel and it was totally worth the $40. I mean come on I'd rather get this game while waiting for the new DA O2 to come out next year, It gives me a better understanding on what is happening in the world of ferrelden exploring new dungeons and places, and of course demolishing new breeds of darkspawn. If I to pick Awakening or the old one mission DLC for Origins i will definitely choose awakening.

Although I have run into a number of bugs, none of them have actually stopped me from being able to progress - but seeing a massive square pool of blood under a dead enemy is a bit offputting.. but once these are ironed out this will definately be regarded by myself as truly epic!!

I quite enjoyed Awakening, my first playthrough clocked in at just under 20 hours with my imported Warden. Both the story and the characters were well written and engaging. I only experienced 2 very minor bugs one of which being the ending cutscene repeating itself over and over (esc got me out of the sequence though).
There are some definite negatives though :
The runecrafting system needs work
The new conversation system is okay, I'd like to see a mix of both the old and new convo systems
DLC content should port over
- I understand that you get better items in DA:A, but I paid $7 for Warden's Keep, that gear should always be available to me no matter if it's considered good / bad / ugly
The $40 price tag is a little steep
I'd give it a 7.5-8 / 10. I did expect a little more out of DA:A, but what we did get, I enjoyed playing. I'll most likely play it through at least two more times as my mage and a new Orlesian Warden.

Overall, I'd say 8-8.5/10
On a last note, I really liked the music in the battles and such. Or then it's just that I got bored with the ones in the Origins.

That is my only real complaint about the Dragon Age series so far. I miss RPG's with a challenge!!
Oh side note- I was a little iffy about the new chat system thinking it might end up like ME2 & completely destroy a large part of the game but they really did learn from all the fatal mistakes of ME2's system & build upon that with the Origins system making a near perfect balance.

I had found nightmare to be fairly easy up until the final battle, which caused me a few problems, but that was mainly just tactics, and I hadn't an optimal team. Again I had not been using the rune crafting to it's full potential, mainly because it's a little frustrating due to the inventory space you use up in creating a paragon rune.
As to bugs, I didn't have many (PS3, all DLC), just the console freezing up once, which isn't necessarily down to DA:A
As to wheter DA:A was a masterpiece, I'd comment that it was a good romp, I had thought that some of the areas seemed to be very small, and perhaps there could have been more to do after the initial consolodation of the forces and before the main battle. A little disappointed in how that was implemented too, but no spoilers here, so I won't go into that.
The size of the city of Amaranthine was a bit of a disappointment too, especially as Biware could have easily explained that by clearly saying that this was just a small part of the city, which is what I feel the intention was. Still that's plenty of room for the avid modder to add on their own expansions.
Off topic response: Planescape: Torment was an amazing game for it's era, due to the character development,, and original and innovative storyline. I don't actually remember any bugs though...

I'm sure it's true that some console gamers just like to have an easy time, I'm sure it's true for some PC users, that's what easy mode is for. Nightmare mode should require you to use all of the available assets to give you a chance at victory, whatever system you're playing on. The only thing that needs to be 'dummed down' on a console is the control interface. Bioware made a good choice on making the interfaces completely different for console/PC users so that shouldn't be an issue. Demons Souls for the PS3 is arguably one of the hardest RPG games released for the western audience, even with it not being released in Europe, it still made very good sales over here due to American/Asian imports.

I'm not sure what the UI has to do with the difficulty of the game or my comment??? lol I agree that I shouldn't have to lose a party member at a sad attempt of a challenge. I'm playing on PC with Anders & Nate in my party leaving a blank spot & playing on Nightmare. I used to have a difficulty mod which tripled enemies resistance in physical, magic, & ect while tripling their damage as well but it conflicted with Awakening so i was forced to uninstall it. Anyways it is very sad how ridiculously easy Dragon Age Origins is & Awakening presents even less of a challenge
I absolutely love everything else about both games but I'm just very sick of there be little to no challenge thanks to mostly console gamers. I love playing on console but it is a fact that mainstream games are very very easy. Perfect example the new splinter cell is stupid easy, I played the demo & it was just sad...still fun but little to no challenge. Which is a shame since the series has been so well known for its ground breaking AI for consoles having men react to every last noise & investigate every possible corner with a bright flash light but now you can run & gun with an MP5 taking little notice or damage. I hold my complaint only as a minor one b/c all games will follow this trend, ppl rather give up than take on a good challenge. Which is understandable since I rather google a guide than solve a puzzle for a piece of loot that most likely isn't worth the time it takes to solve the puzzle.
I find that example to be very different considering when you are presented with a challenge in combat you learn new times to use your abilities or new combinations & develop your tactics to where solving a puzzle only grants u 1 item you'll never use or for a short time depending on your tastes.
As for the DS comment, I can't agree even though I have never played it I've seen it played a few times & 2 of my friends made it look pretty easy since the AI was so terrible & the game's entire purpose is basically what ever WoW player does each & every day, grind out levels, farm waves of enemies for loot & xp. So I wasn't too impressed with a game that lacks AI but instead tries to raise the bar back going backwards instead of forward. Some found the game to be hardcore since you have to start all over & you lose your souls but what they forget is years ago we only started all over b/c we could not save our games on the first gaming platforms...you had to leave them on all day if you had to go to school or start all over if you died simply b/c you couldn't save. It's not an awesome old school feature but a bad idea designed to make stubborn ppl feel hardcore by conning them into playing through the same stupid waves of enemies over & over instead of taking the time to develop a real game for real gamers but I admit it is a very good strategy to sell copies much like Crysis & the ridiculous specs needed to run it when the game first launched.
