This is really great insight, and I appreciate everyone's comments. After reading what everyone had to say, I will get it; but, only when the price drops to a much more reasonable level. Given all the lack of original characters, and inability to import DLC content, no sense buying an Expansion Pack for $15 less than the original game.

I was just saying the main campaign length is short. If I did the sdequests (All of them) then to be honest, Origns would have a much MUCH longer playtime still then Awakening, in fact a great deal more.

So yes, the expansion IS WAY TOO SHORT, nothing much more to it then that.

I agree, thats a very sensible thought. Also get it when these item destorying glitches are fixed as well =P
It's not bad- I mean despite my hatred towards it, it's mroe towards myself for being stupid enough to "Trust" a game developer, I should have waited.

I would say it is not worth, paying 40 eu for extra 15h of play(if it is your first time), second time you may do it in 10h or less... when orign you playing atleast 40h... besides awekening has many gliches in which you lose some talking(story)...
Of corse its only may opinion.

Yes. Even though there are some continuity hiccups, I think it was well worth the full price. Besides, thanks to the modding community fixing the carryover for DLC items, I'm running around with the Starfang and Voice of Velvet doing 200+ damage per backstab and feeling a sense of ridiculous giddiness every time I see those big numbers flash by.

I'd have to say it's worth it if you have the money to spare. I had a blast playing it (still playing it, actually), and think it was well worth the money. But again, it comes down to whether or not $40 is a lot of money to you.. Personally, I think it should have been at least $10 cheaper than what it is, but I'm happy with it nonetheless.

I disagree- granted I'm playing on the terribly buggy, no mod options at all, and completely ignored by bioware, Console version.

Do they even test their console versions? o.O

my rogue friend howe with bow did near 900 dmg and almost every single hit of his is more then 400 so it is bit insane.

Well -- I personally thought Awakening was a great game. I, of course, have a few gripes with it (such as lack of companion interaction) but overall I thought it was good, for the $40 price though, that's entirely up to you whether you want to cough up the money or not.

But luckily for me, I joined the trade-in games bandwagon for GameStop a long time ago so I didn't have to pay a penny for Awakening.

I believe it is yes... despite its bugs and some issues I hope they fix. I enjoy it a lot, though it falls short of being as awesome as the original game.

  • Warden's Keep and The Stone Prisoner DLC equipment is NOT brought into DAA
  • Ohgren is back; but, no one else (if true, it would be a major annoyance. Ohgren? Seriously? Shale without question should have been brought back, as well as other NPCs depending who lived at the end. After all---expansion, not a new game.
  • Storyline is not consistent with what transpired in DA
  • May have bugs
...

  • Yes, and No, as annoying as that is some equipment does transfer but the more uber equipment does not. I hope they reverse this into everything transfers because the gear in Awakenings is far superior, but it is nice to have you Starfang with you.
  • Yes, Oghren is back but currently his approval rating resets to 0. I have less of a problem with this but it would be nice if it was variable dependent upon how you ended Origins.
  • Storyline is consistent with Dragon Age: Origins and is a continuation/rewrite of the origin's epilogue. Whoever said it was not consistent obviously has yet to play the game.
I hope my 2 cents helps as well.

Everyone will agree that Awakenings is short. But beyond that it's still a fun and enjoyable experience even if it's somewhat overpriced.

Whenever a new expansion/DLC/whatever comes out the first thing you need to do is pull over and wait for WAAAAAAAHHHHHbulance traffic to go through.

Not to downplay or belittle the life-destroying and soul-crushing experience of not getting to continue your RP romance and some of the other concerns you'll see expressed on the forums here but it's a good idea to let some of the emotional responses play out around unmet expectations (regardless of resoning or justification) and see what the longer term reviews of things are.

Having played DA:O through a total of 5 times and probably another 10 incomplete playthroughs along with all the DLC I'd say nothing but good things about all of it. I'm most the way through Awakenings and have been very pleased. What I get out of a game and what you get out of a game may not be the same thing however. I'd say pick a reviewer who seems to enjoy the same things as you and see what they have to say about it. A games forums are the worst place to go for opinions on the game as they're full of the folks who put the 'fan' in 'fanatic'.

If you play through DA:O and enjoyed it and want to take your character beyond the 'newbie who's just trying to get by' and into 'you're the freaking hero of Ferelden and commander of the Grey Wardens' stage Awakenings is a good option.

i have played DA with Human noble (man) and (woman), human mage, elf dalish and city, dwarf noble. so i would say i am not just passing by... and i didnt thinked to stop on it but Final Fantasy 13 was released and i started to play it. then awakening so i played it whithout finishing DA with dwarf commoner, DA i liked it was long enough, awakening played once and i think i am done with it, maybe once more will play to do to vigil keep insteed of staying at defending town.

I am nearly finished with DA (approx 3/4), and I was ready to purchase Awakenings; however, I have not read many positive things about it thus far, and am wondering....is it worth it? Can someone confirm:

- Warden's Keep and The Stone Prisoner DLC equipment is NOT brought into DAA
- Ohgren is back; but, no one else (if true, it would be a major annoyance. Ohgren? Seriously? Shale without question should have been brought back, as well as other NPCs depending who lived at the end. After all---expansion, not a new game.

If this is accurate, why purchase DAA for the price they are asking? Why not just wait for DA2?

I am really confused how EA/Bioware could release the expansion, when it does not appear to be an expansion at all.

Am I misreading something? Or am I missing something because I have not finished DA yet? (please no spoilers.)

Awakening has a much better chat system that I was scared of at first..didn't think I'd like the change but I'm loving it more & more.

THe side quests actually heavily relate to teh main story & there are plenty of detailed & short side quests to keep you busy,

you can add logos onto your shield(warden's logo, your family logo ect...)

rune crafting system is fun plus rune for armor

haven't gotten into new armor yet

I love all the new companions but it was shady at first but the more time that passes the more i like them all so far

the plot is very interesting with several twists & really interesting chracters

  voice work is great

Overall weapons & armor are inferior to Origins but everything else is pretty much  better

I'd say that it would be worth it if the price dropped down a fair bit. I just wish that they had worked on it a while longer. it looks to be incomplete and rushed

Awakening is a bit on the buggy side and certainly feels "truncated" in places... it's stripped-down, to put it another way, with the focus on quests, combat and exploration, and less dialogue and conversation. The companions all feel fleshed-out (it just takes more than grinding them with questions), and in fact it will probably make you realise how much time you spent talking to your party in camp the first time around, quickloading over and over to make sure you don't say the wrong things.  Unfortunately the story is tied together pretty loosely and there are few characters of note beyond your party members (who also don't chime in during conversation as much as I'd like). It feels more like "a day in the life of a Grey Warden" than an epic quest to conquer evil, and since you already have the respect of everyone you meet, most of the quests revolve around administering and defending the people than they do around solving internal conflicts.

I definitely miss that aspect of the game, but what we do get is pretty good. The combat and level design is all very nice, and some of the new environments are very atmospheric and interesting, but they won't quite stun you like some of the stuff in Origins did (like your first visit to Orzammar). There are also a ****ton of quests... seriously, I think there are almost as many as in Origins, but they are shorter and a bit on the fetchy side.  Looking back on Origins, a lot of quests are actually very short and simple, but because they take place across the whole world, they seem bigger than they really are (having to travel back and forth five times on the world map, not being able to finish until you unlock the Alienage near the endgame, etc.)  The new items, skills, talents, etc. are all very complementary to what was in the first game, not feeling out of place or tacked-on.

I don't know, it really depends on your expectations and what you value. If you are going to rush through it, skipping the side-quests and dialogue, then you aren't getting the full experience (or even half of it, really). If you like to take your time playing and overturning every stone, then I can imagine you'll spend a good 25 or 30 hours on a single Awakening play-through.  $30 is the sweet spot for me, and at $40 plus tax it's just a bit much for me to justify; it's longer than many games out today, but it also doesn't have the drama, novelty and grandeur of a full game.

Depends on what you expect. I'm enjoying it so far though. I'd say, it depends on how much you liked dragon age. If you couldn't get enough dragon age and still can't then this is a must have.

I would disagree because this game is not Dragon Age. There is no depth to any of your companions or your relationships with them. This would maybe be acceptable as DLC but my no means is this an expansion much less a new game. <10 hours game time if you play on hard settings. The interactions with com[anions have no meaning or value. Your moral choices are also meaningless.

Since when did I claim it was a new game? Its a DLC, same as all the others. It is just longer. I bought awakenings the same reason I got the other DLC, because I like dragon age and I wanted more.

It took me 18 hours to finish. For 3200 ms points, which is roughly £33, it is absolutely worth it. I'm not sure why anyone is complaining about the price.

I found that the returning characters didn't really react to my returning hero in a satisfactory way, so started again as the Orlaisian Warden early on. This helped i think. The game is very detached from the events of Origin i found, so detaching my character seemed logical.

Overall it's not as enjoyable as the original content, but it's a lot of fun none the less.
