I'm plowing through it and really love it so far. Nice story, fun characters, and more Dragon Age. It's kept me occupied for a while so far with plenty of sidequests- it might not be DAO size (but not much is, really) but it's a big chunk of content that's a lot of fun- if a bit easy.
If you liked DAO, I think it's a must-buy, personally.
Is Awakenings worth it?

It's descent and is worth it IMO.
Although the dialog and quest options are too limited compared to the original.

Just finished it. The main story might take 8 hours or so, but it takes more than double that if you add in the sidequests.

I wouldn't trust the forums with these questions, though there are some good player reviews around here somewhere. i would give it 8/10 myself. Took me 21 hours, did all the quests I came by.

How does it hold up on replay? I'm still going to pick up Awakening at some point, but I'm curious if it has a couple of replays in it. Bioware's pretty good at building that into their games usually, and I wanted to know if that's the case with the Awakening expansion.

I just got it on Friday and started to play that night and I enjoy the game but it isn't as good as Origins is I do like the companions all except for Valanna. But I really missed the Romances and the communication with your companions wasn't as good as it was in Origins. Now do I feel it was worth $40 yes I do you get as much or more then other games that cost $20 more.

the game reviews average out to an 8.5 out of 10. people expected way more than an expansion brings.

Review sites are just as biased as forum-goers. They just hide it under the guise of impartiality.
Remember, advertising dollars trump integrity.

Might have some more once it gets some DlC, dunno.
As it is, there's two points with branching paths that will require a 2nd replay if you want to see the outcome of both possible branches. And there is a third critical decision in the endgame that can change your epilogue, I'll leave it at that in nospoilerzone.
You'd also require a 2nd replay if you want to see how the game plays out differently with a "fresh" Orlesian warden as opposed to an import from an origins save.
So yah, there's replayability in it, at least if you're the kind of player like me who wants to experience/try everything. However, one thing I'm finding is race/gender/origin-background varies the story very little, as opposed to Origins. But the wide variety of class paths makes it now, more than ever, a completely different experience to play the three different classes as PC-mainhero.

BTW, to return to the ongoing point, I don't have unreasonable expectations of an expansion, I get the difference.
It just seems to me a rather high priced expansion should have delivered more, esp. in terms of QA, which is why I'm posting in one of the value threads rather than the "epic fail" threads.

If you liked Dragon Age then Awakening will be worth it. If you didn't like Dragon Age, Awakening won't change your mind.

Anyone who employes a game-style leading to completion in 8 hours for first time through is doomed from the beginning, and probably shouldn't even be attempting this kind of game to start with. You probably should stay with the shooter-style games or whatever you happen to prefer.STRAUSS99 wrote...

It was decent, finished it in about 8 hours. No romances, no interactions with any part members unless you click on something that relates to them, only two female party members and they are ugly as sin, the only attractive one... well that's a spoiler. Your previous game relationships with other characters are irrelevant to this expansion for "The story is focused more on the mission at hand and the new threat to Ferelden". So I guess the Blight and the Arch Demon weren't a big deal. Hopefully part 2 will make up for this in more ways then one.

"That's why I recommend reviews."
Actually, reviews have a much higher chance of being completely false since most tend to play games with novelty-tinted goggles.
Unlike the reviews for films - which can be used much better for seeing if a film is good or not - gaming reviews are increasingly unreliable, and so it sometimes falls to people searching developer forums for genuine opinions from real people who know what the game is about.
Of course there are plenty of posters who hate on anything, but for the most part I've come to appreciate the nature of forums like this, where fair and honest criticism actually gets levelled at a game, rather than constant unfounded praise by overpaid morons.
