Casey hudson quote "We had lots of feed back on the orbital minigame, and a frequent comment is that it's "strangely addictive""

No the frequent comment is that it sucks.   I wish he would just admit that people make those comments and maybe admit that there is some validity  to them.   We have been extremely detailed in our criticism of it and honestly the 360 version is awful even with all the tricks they recommend.  I can't even count the number of times I have fallen asleep while planet scanning.    Like Wrex says  "Don't ****** in my ear and tell me it's raining"

believe it or not, I prefer the planet scanning on the 360 rather than on my pc. The 360 is at least tolerable, though still an annoyance, but on the PC... it's just painful for me.

I just think that the sooner he comes to grips with the fact that it's flawed the sooner they will do something about it he seems to be in denial at this point IMHO

Aside from the people in these forums, the majority of people I talk to don't mind it.

You must not be talking to the same people I am talking to then cause everyone I talk to that owns the game has commented on it.

I like the planet scanning. It helps me think about life.

People I talk to say they don't mind it and that it is less annoying than it seems.

Addictive is not a word I would use nor have heard anyone say about it.

My main gripe with planet scanning is that it took the beautifully rendered planets of ME:1 and turned them into hideous cookie-cutter models.

Is that what they call planet scanning, a mini game? Who are these twits? I would rather listen to fingernails scratching down a blackboard than do the planet scanning crap.

Ya I wish they would have just designed better maps for the Mako. Ones that didn't require me to drive it up the side of a mountain on almost every planet.  But lets not get distracted the main thing is planet scanning in its current iteration is about as fun as stubbing your toe.

Did he really say that?
Don't have the new Gi but I don't see how anyone could call or find the planet scanning addictive.Tedious is the word I'd use, just like the new hacking minigames it's boring and just pains me everytime I use it(I'm on the 360).It's honestly one of the worst features I've seen in a game,I sometimes wanna go without upgrades because it's such a boring time waster.
If he really said that than I wonder if they only pay attention to "positive" feedback .

Did he seriously say that? What world is he living in? I mean.. I've cleared the game 10 times, and scanned enough resources to get every upgrade ten times. I've gotten to the point of listening to music for like... 3-4 hours and doing every once of planet scanning and a few N7 missions all at once. Without the music, I would most definitely pass out from boredom.

Planet scanning is without a doubt the most tedious, annoying BS I have ever done on a game, perhaps even more than finding those goddamn flags in Assassin's Creed. There is nothing fun in the least about it. It's annoying, painful and ruins the fun int he game.

And that's why the ME 2 save editor is absolute gold. I couldn't stand playing it on the Xbox anymore, so I switched to PC. A few tweaks and I don't even have to scan planets. Thank christ for that.

*Rubs chin*

Yep, i believe it is, it is the most tedious/boring/mind numbing/annoying/whatever else you wanna call it "mini-game" (the quotes mark the fact that there's no way in hell this is a game, not even a mini one xD ) i heave ever seen, who the heck called it addictive? Maybe it's addictive to someone who's brain dead or something... i would much rather count grass than do that mining thing again.

And at first i thought the UNC collection missions from ME 1 were tedious *GAH* who invented this crap?

I miss driving off of cliffs in the Mako and doing barrel rolls while searching for minerals and anomolies. If they left the "exploration" aspect of the game like that with smaller areas to explore so it didn't take thirty minutes to sweep each planet, I would have preferred that instead.

SCREW ALL OF YOU, I LOVED THE MAKO.

Same here, Mako basically made Mass Effect unique, by having the ability to explore uncharted worlds, and gave a sense of scale to the universe... that's all gone now...

Welcome to the era of linearity and "streamlining", actually the dumbed-down era of gaming...

Quoting someone from a previous thread:

"I hate the keyboard because it has too many buttons"... gamers these days

It's like Christina's powerpoint slide about the benefit of scanning being that it was a source of humor and parody- playing a clip of Those Minerals, while conveniently skiping lines like "slouching at my console crying from the tedium", and "this **** is so boring most men’s souls would wither"

Seriously, Bioware, where do you keep your heads these days?

Yeah, well Casey Hudson is drowning in his own delusion. I can remember him spouting that all your decisions will have consequences in ME2: - emails, ROTFLMAO and ME, ' this is YOUR story', as I said delusional. Hard to imagine a project director that can't see the trees from his own hype. Scanning 'strangly addictive', ROTFLMAO!!

Still, I read an article on Eurogames saying that a Bioware exec, was full of praise for EA, as they had showed them the light in relation to DLC. Says it all really.

it's hard to recognize your own mistakes but come on Casey, it's about the future of ME we 're talking about so swallow your misplaced pride and start making amendments.

I have commented on the scanning more than once.

I cannot believe that someone at BW is defending this. Not only is it boring to the extreme, but is completely idiotic in terms of the ME universe - to check if there are minerals on a planet, you manually drag a little disk over a sphere? A computer would do this task and indeed that is pretty much how it was in ME1 - you orbit a planet and you get anomaly detected, etc.

As for comments like strangely addictive? Bizarre. Christine Norman has admitted no one likes it. There are those they say that do and each to their own I suppose, but really? You like doing it on each and every playthrough? These people have far too much time on their hands and, yes, 2 hours or whatever out of 35 is still too much. 4 playthroughs = 8 hours of your life doing that scanning.

OK, so let me get this straight, he said it was "a frequent comment" that people thought the mining was addictive? Where in the name of Saren did he get that information from? Who would make such comments?

They must never even look at their official boards here then. I've seen people say they can tolerate it, or even don't mind it, but I've never had anyone tell me, and never seen it posted on these boards that anyone thought it was addictive. If anything it's an overwhelming majority that say it's the single worst thing about the whole game.

Unless he's getting hundreds of butt kissers that he talks to at shows telling him these things, I just don't believe it for one second that he's not delusional over the fanbase's views on mining. Or the GI quote is messed up or something.

I personally loved the Mako and think mining is a ****** poor replacement, but I still don't mind it that much, I don't dislike it nearly as much as many here do, but I'd never ever call it addictive.

Scanning was just one of the multitude of rubbish ideas that they implemented in ME2.

But that they honestly think it was a good move and that people actually like it? I can only shake my head in disgust.
