What I'm saying is how can he say the planets area "cookie-cutter" models when all planets are round. Would he rather some of them be cubes?LoneFullmetal wrote...
Hey, cookie cutters do come in different shapes. Though I don't see what good a spherical shaped cookie cutter would do when you can just roll it into a ball...Qwepir wrote...

My main gripe with planet scanning is that it took the beautifully rendered planets of ME:1 and turned them into hideous cookie-cutter models.
Let me fix that for youJust so you know, planets are spherical, so they aren't really "cookie-cutter" models.-Skorpious- wrote...

What? What? Honestly that minigame is silly. Use your brain? You make 3 guesses based on vague assumptions then you shut the terminal off and try again - no consequences.
Nonsense. You can certainly approach the mini game that way - but if you do "waste" a few seconds thinking, it's all logical and not "vague assumptions". Besides, in my game the terminals are locked after you fail once (except when you have selected a special perk). Not to mention the fact that you can't access some terminals at all if your skill isn't high enough, and that your chances of success depend on the skill too. That's called role playing.
The terminals lock if you make 4 failed attempts. If you make 3 and shut it off however, you can do it again with no penalty. That's called bad programming.
You can "think" all you want, and they'll still be vague assumptions. Sometimes the answer is randomly illogical.

I've said it before, I'll say it again - automate full planet scans to locate anomalies with reduced mineral yield (because you don't have to work for it anymore), add more loot and random drops from killed enemies to missions. Problem solved.

I hate the planet scanner as much as the next guy, but come on people, the only advantage the eleventy dozen copy/pasted versions of the Mako mission had was that you could basically skip them altogether if you wanted to. We're talking about a grand total of three or four terrain textures and about the same amount of different building models repeated ad nauseam here. The planet sidequests in ME2 are clearly better, and no, they're not all shooter levels, anyone who says that needs to play the damn game instead of talking about it on the internet.

True indeed. You get more loot and cut out any mind numbing excercises.
Two birds, one stone.

you **** about ME1 planets and then call planet scanning better?
You do know every single damn planet you scan in ME2 is the same exact damn shape and size with a different texture.
The size when you scan it is the same no matter how big the planet actually is.
Planet scanning is the biggest copy/paste F U there is in the ME series.

N7: Endangered Research Station -Turn on the shield and oh that’s it?
N7: Mining the Canyon -Power up the YMIR mech with conveniently placed power cells for every 20 feet it walked.
N7: MSV Estevanico -Walk around a rusted out wreck to get picked up by the shuttle at the target location.
N7: Quarian Crash Site - Protect the Quarian for a few seconds on a very short level.
N7: Eclipse Smuggling Depot -Aria’s reward quest. Kill the 3 Mechs before they destroy the crates.

Honestly it blows my mind that the scanning minigame even made it into the final game. Given how many people have complained about it, a significant portion of BioWare must have realized it was a bad idea. Did they just not speak up?

Then again, saw a quote from someone else at Bioware admitting that the scanning game went over "like a lead zeppelin"

The topic is pretty much just planet scanning is bad and not addictive.
No need to try and bring in a ME1 comparision; since instead of driving on planets you just scan the same planet...over and over.

Going by what I’ve seen in the game with the bugs, redundant pop-ups, text size/readability and a ton of other little things that shouldn’t have been in a final version of the game. My guess is that they used monkeys to play test the game, the developers just ignored any issues that the play testers brought up or maybe both.
