There was nothing 'classy' about ME2's sex scenes.  Some of them didn't show any scene, others were like frantic, hormone-raging teenagers.  Not to mention the build up for most of them also revolved around 'Hey, let's ****!'  'Okay!'  They were a huge step backwards from the ones in the first game.

It's obvious BioWare was impacted heavily by that Faux News report.  First DA:O's comically hilarious 'undie-sex', and now this.

Blame Bioware.  They chose not to put it in.  Obviously nudity offends some people (not me personally, the more skin the better!), they are free to voice their opinion, that why I love this country.  If BW chose to placate those individuals, it's their "fault", no one elses.

Haha.  That is a good one.  I guess people will believe whatever they want.

Olbermann and Madow FTW

That aside...for some reason I agree with Stanley Woo's comments in that posted link. The lack of skin in ME2 never bothered me since I didn't do any of the romances...yeah, I'm a LiLimancer...

The thing is that nobody loses with nudity! The people who want a more meaningful sex scene that doesn't just stupidly "imply" sex with juvenile dry humping are happy because the romance is portrayed correctly, and the people who just want to see sweet glorious ****** are also happy.

The only people who are unhappy are Fox News, but if Bioware is seriously taking their opinion into account then they're minus ten thousand respect points from me. Fuck Fox News. If the sticker says ADULT then ADULT content should be included. I long for the day where games are held over an equal amount of scrutiny as every other entertainment medium.

Why are we so scared of ****** anyway? They're fucking amazing.

I don't want much to see. I don't want a porn-game, but the lovescene in ME1 was a lot better than what we get in ME2 and the only thing we could see was only a boob viewed from the side.
I don't get that.

This is pretty much my point.  Not that I would complain if they took it further, but I would have preferred at least something on the level with ME1.  It's not about the pixelated ******, it's about censorship.  I personally hate any form of censorship when it comes to games, movies, etc.

BioWare can claim they've taken this path because of 'artistic choice', but it will always come off as caving to the ultra-uptight conservatives(not a bash on everyone with conservative views) that went and made up a massive BS report based on trailer clips to a game not a single one of them played or even watch someone else play.

Very true. But I can't actually complain too much, since over here (Germany) they censor almost everything violence related. It's quite the other way round you have it. They don't mind when there's boobies to see, but one drop of blood and the age rating rises sky high. I wonder why they didn't censor the reporter scene here.
In C&C... The infantry is robots over here. So they leak oil instead of blood. Thats a goddamn strategy game. The people are like not even half an inch tall. That's why I import games from time to time.

But BW did some self censoring here, and thats very very sad.

I don't know where you got your rose tinted glasses, but I don't recall the "build up" of "I met Liara 1 mission ago and now she's suddenly talking about this connection she thinks we have and awkwardly explaining how her species has sex" being much better. Not insinuating the ME2 build up was fantastic either, but calling it a huge step backwards suggests to me you've not played ME1 in a while.

Did I say Liara?  I didn't mention her specifically, no.  However, Liara immediately says she wants to wait.  She only comes in and pushes for the joining because she's unsure if one, or both of them might be dead(I just played through this romance Monday in ME1).

Think about this.  Liara and Kaiden, both want to wait(I hate Ashley, so skipping that), but both take what might be their last chance to be with someone they're developing feelings for.  Kaiden even confirms that he was in love when you encounter him on Horizon.  There's also much more feeling between the pair, with that whole locker scene and coming to comfort Shepard after (s)he had the Normandy locked out.

Now let's look at the ME2 ones.
Garrus: Talks about physical stress relief and talk about making the sex work.
Tali:  Madly in love with Shepard, but again, immediately turns into attempted to make the sex work.
Thane: An actual romance, though how any woman could take being constantly compared to his dead wife is beyond me.
Jack:  Another sweet romance with a rather tasteful 'romance' scene at the end.  Not even certain if they slept together or not there.
Miranda:  Definitely all about sex.  Hell, Shepard can even state it, and their... ahem... interactions... in the engineering room doesn't scream 'romantic' to me.  More like ****ing than love-making.
Jacob:  Haven't played it, and never will.  He's not good enough for Miranda, then he's no where near good enough for Shepard.  Calling her a priiiiiize doesn't help his case at all.

I see 2, maybe three real romances in there.  Strangely, the two are both people that are dying...

And as I said, they can claim that it was the direction they wanted to take all they want.  Fact remains that after that report, they stopped pushing for more 'questionable' scenes, and went for clothed dry-humping in both of their major titles released after that Faux News report.  Even if what their PR department is spinning is true, it still looks bad for them.  It looks like they caved.

At least this line of thinking makes sense, though.  Killing and hurting people is a horrible thing most of the time.  Love and romance is not.  Here in the States, the priorities are all ****ing backwards.

Yes, and thats what I don't get.
But mostly I don't think it comes from the people - it's a media and government thing. They need to get their priorities straight. Both in your country and in mine. It's just a videogame after all.

I wouldn't go so far as to say it's a rip-off as that implies that I bought the game for the naked shoulders (I think of them as a happy bonus) but it does seem like a cave to fox news and other non-player sensibilities. Also just weird, as I swear you view a percentage of the game through Miranda's butt cleavage for them to hold back on the sex scene.

Exactly.  It seems like they pushed in as much blatant sexuality as they could without showing any nudity.  Because tasteful, brief nudity in a romantic scene between lovers is just aweful, but hardcore dry humping and slamming each other into walls is a-okay.

Normally I'm a very polite person, but look at the dialoges happening here and then look at your fantastic post.
You deserved that.

Actually it is censorship. It is self censorship induced by blunt media presentation.

It is the same type of self-imposed censorship that the motion picture industry underwent back in the '30's, when all the blasted "moralists" started screaming obscenity in the movies. It is not moralism, but concealed fascism, because the best way to control people is to cut down on free thought through artistic expression. Just check out some of the parts of the Hayes Act. Sure, much of it had to do with sex, but also it had to do with Americanism and the preservation of naivete of the audience - good always triumphs over evil, America is always the good guy, and so forth. Look at how many films showed the "good" cowboys slaughtering dozens of "evil Injuns" without compunction, and they were fine, but show a man and woman in bed together, even clothed, and that was bad. No, not bad - it was DELETED.

Bioware took a dive into the deep end of the pool with Mass Effect, paddled around a bit longer with Dragon Age (hey, they MUST have known that someone would use the Toolset to remove the ugly undies, but this way they could pass the buck to the fans instead of allowing Glen Beck or some other Neogoebbbels to point the finger and say AHA!).

Now, with ME2's dry humps and DA:A's lack of romance options, Bioware has shown itself to be timid of the water, and to quickly splash back into the shallow end, while Stanley Woo says, "No fair calling names! We chose this!"

If anything was obscene in ME2, it was that ridiculous game merchant on the Citadel. What an utter waste of bits and programmer effort! Some dork got a giggle out of it, but what did it really add to the game? Not nearly as much as some tasteful nudity, but then, Fox doesn't mind us laughing at stupidity, otherwise they would settle down to real news and leave the sideshows to Colbert (where I go for my news).

Hey! don't blame the game selling Salarian for there not being nudity in the game.

If anything the biggest waste of resources was Jacob.

How is the game merchant obscene? Take it out and you might as well take out the chef down on Level 28 or was it 26? Might as well take out the turian trying to get with his quarian friend on Illium as well as the bachelor party.

I really dont care that there wasn't any nudity in the game. It wouldn't have added anything to the overall plot. Or the romance storyline. If you want to see a topless Miranda, go draw your own pictures.

The fact is, Partial Nudity, which the first game included, isn't necessary.

But when used correctly in a tasteful manner, as it was in ME1, will add A LOT to the quality of the game.

I can attest to this, because in ME2, I was romancing Kelly, and it felt that our fling never even got anywhere.

Then she starts dancing for me at my leisure, which felt completely out of character.

Had they included a scene with partial nudity(like the scenes in ME1), at least we'd get some closure.

Also, Garrus' and Tali's were too short.

I can understand no nudity there, but the scenes were cut off so fast, I kind of felt robbed.

No one but Bioware and/or EA knows whether it was a cave in or not.  It was a story in the news.  There are stories all the time in the news about children and violence and nudity.  Fox News will bring up conservative talking points a lot of times while CNN and MSNB and the networks will bring up liberal socialist talking points.  The psychologist (Cooper Lawrence) that was against Bioware on this, later retracted her comments because she never actually had looked at the content.  Once she did, she realized that she made an ass out of herself.
