So I decided to let the council die for once and soon as I hit the citadel everyone hates my guts I mean wow the most shocking one was those two asari basiclly telling me the galaxy is in chaos now that the previous council is dead. I never knew things would be that bad if the council from me1 is dead. I thought that i would get some hate but not that much!

This might shock you, but international politics is not a popularity contest.

I imagine most species would be mildly irritated at suddenly having no representation in galactic politics, yes.

Heh - good to know. The first game I played, I let the council die to save the civilians, but the second time I saved them and that's the save I used for ME2.

I only took that choice because it was flagged as the Paragon choice. Personally, I would have thought saving innocent civilians would have been a better example of "goodness" than letting them die in their thousands just to save the necks of a bunch of pigheaded politicians, but it shows what I know!

The Destiny Ascension was a military ship.  Much like Air Force One by all descriptions.  Not a civilian vessel aside from the political leaders, really.

I saved them, so far i am dissapoint. But i really want that "i told you so" moment with them. It would be most satisfying.

This is also another reason why I save them can't wait to rub it in the turian counciler face.

Well I told them to "shove it" when they asked if they could reinstate my spectre status, that felt goooood! and it didn't stop there, Udina enters the room, Councilor Udina.

I liked that meeting, it was..satisfying! Although that might bite me in the back in ME3, but im happy!

Well let's see, you killed off the council and instituted a human empire. I don't know about you guys, but I'd hate to have just humans in charge. That's a baaaaad idea.

Letting the council die is the right choice. Just that the right choice sometimes has negative consequences too.

I have a query; is the council always replaced by a human council if you let them die? As I recall both the neutral and renegade options lead to the council dying. Is the council for the neutral choice still all human?

If the council dies, and your Shepard is more Paragon than Renegade: New alien council headed by a human councilor.

If the council dies, and your Shepard is more Renegade than Paragon: All human council.

Is that really true?

I saved the council because I really, really hope I can use air quotes on the turian councilor in ME3.

I recently redid Mass Effect 1 to romance Liara because I think she is the most interesting LI have Mass Effect 2 and the main reason I saved the council again was to shove it in the Turian councilor's face when the "Reapers" attack.

I just saved the council because I figured that, as annoying they can be, they are certainly going to be more competent at running galactic government than the humans, who have been in space for like, 50 years.

I saved them so the Turian Councilor would kiss up to me, instead of being his usual ass.

I was wrong.

I saved them ONCE. I regretted it so much when I got to the air quotes scene. Never again. The aliens hating us was going to come sooner or later - we're growing too fast, and we won't stop now just because they're frightened. .

Saving the council always seemed like the right move tactically to me, politics be damned. Fighting the Geth fleet while they are concentrating fire on the destiny ascension and then fighting sovereign seems a lot less dangerous than letting Sovereign and the Geth fleet meet up with human ships being the only targets left.

I heard that decapitating a nation's government by killing all their leaders has serious consequences like causing extreme political instability for a number of years.

Can anybody confirm this?

I saved them because I just want to see all of the options. Going 100% paragon through both ME1 and ME2...and once ME3 comes out. Also because I want the quotation choice in ME3.
