Depends on how little you have to pay. I wouldn't buy it again for $40. If I were looking to buy it for $20, I would consider it. If I could buy it for $10, I would.

Hope that helps.

Well.... its fun but very short. The game only lasts 15-20 hours, thats paltry by DAO standards, and for $40 no less. Theres no benefit to buying this DLC right now, maybe the price willl drop later?

Just wondering but can the disk version be shared or is that disk useful for your X-box 360 only once popped in?

But yes, I think the biggest issue is the pricing, its far too close to a main games price than a DLC should be.

Agreed, if I knew then what I knew now I wouldnt have coughed up $40 for Awakening if there was a chance for it to lower in price. I have the Xbox version, cost $42 counting taxes to pick it up at Gamestop.

Is Awakening worth it? I cant say for sure, but I can say that its not worth $40.

At the very least give the wiki's time to load up on info so that you can reference it should you need to, its pretty bare at the moment.

If you are a European like myself and you can buy it for about $20.00 I would say yes. If you are an American and for some reason you have to pay twice as much I would say no.

No.  It wasn't.    It had a Decent story.   But  sloppy  half-assed presentation.    They Cut corners everywhere.

For the first time ever, I am disappointed in  a bioware release.  the fact that they decided to charge us 40 bucks for what should have been a standard fare  $30 expansion price is merely gasoline on the fire.  But the price really isn't the main issue.  The problem here is that Unlike normal bioware games, Awakenings  does not feel like a labor of love.  it feels like a rushed, funding-starved project  that the interns put out.  And yes.  It was pathetically short.  And even the intentional,  almost dishonest   things they employed in the game  to try to eek out extra play-time hours  (like the silly  tedious rune  crafting system, and the nonsensical  puzzles), do not add a single minute to the playtime  for anyone who's smart enough to not fall for the nonsense.

I feel like I've been burned.  And for the first time ever, I most certainly will NOT  pay another $40 for a product  simply because it has "Dragon Age"  in its name.  Instead,  I'm going to wait until I get the "overall" opinion of the masses before I buy.

The game doesnt have enough meat on its bones, its not worth $40. You have 3 main missions and whatever side quests you can scrape together in Amaranthine, some politics and thats it. There are better ways to spend $40 than that.

There are also an enormous amount of technical issues ranging from bugs to mixed up item models to count the experience in its entirety as anything but "less than ok". Atleast wait for the price to drop.

It's 29.00 Euros at Amazon.de. I'll wait until it drops. Or until there are used games for sale. With what I'm reading and hearing, there will be soon enough.

I watched a buddy play through and was thoroughly underwhelmed. No way on earth would I pay the Euro equivalent of 40 dollars for a game like that. Heck, I didn't even feel like playing myself, and my friend and I frequently started chatting during play. That would have been impossible during the first play of DA:O. I was blind and deaf to the world around me. This one? Meh, cute little game, but its story seemed to be held together by spit and wishful thinking

I'd rather wait, there are quite a lot of games coming out this year. I love BioWare products, and DA:O is the best new RPG out there. I love that game, but it seems to be the last one of its kind. Unfortunately.

It's an ok game, it's not a great game. I also will wait for reviews from now on before buying Dragon Age addons. I had very high hopes, they had been working on it a long time. There's quite a bit good about it, but it is not in the same league as DAO.

It feels like they put out a game that was much cheaper to produce, with much less of what made it magic, for the sole reason to make money off the DA franchise. I'm sure it worked, too. But even though you have the people here yelling at the ones who are disppointed "WHAT DO YOU EXPECT, IT'S AN EXPANSION," really, it's an expansion that does not have the feel of the old game, even with recycling the environments and music.

I don't understand the $40 price tag when DAO was between $50-$65 (whether you bought the collectors edition or not). The music isn't original, the background graphics aren't original, the engine is the same, the conversation system is far more shallow, most of the quests inappropriate for the Warden Commander, and your decisions from DAO are barely acknowledged despite all the hype from when DAO was released (the only problem I have with THIS actually is the lack of acknowledgement of the romance options except, if you didn't bug, a quick line in the epilogue).

The story is good. I actually don't have a problem with the length, though it IS short. But truthfully, if I could have returned it, I would have after a couple of hours into the game. I finished it because I had bought it, but it's not worth the pricetag, and the other elements are sad because you know the writers are capable of making something fabulous but for whatever reason couldn't this time around.

I think you can summarise the advantages of awakening and its disadvantages like this:

Its got a good campaign with some interesting choices and characters, but story wise it does not refer a lot to your choices in origins and can almost be seen as a side story. That being said though the addon has a lot of fun combat and improves on the pretty good foundations of origins a lot by making all classes stronger and improving the balance a lot. It has great loot, the levels are a lot better design wise and it has less annoying passages like the fade was in origins.

When it comes to length it will vary between 12 - 20 hours depending on your playstyle, my imported lvl 25 warden from origins took me pretty exactly 15 hours to finish the game with most sidequests and frankly it was fun all the way through. Still if you import a lower level warden it becomes a lot more challenging so add an hour or two for the harder fights.

Long story short: If you like origins for more than just the relationships to your characters it can still be a very fun addon, but if you primarily expect a continuation of origins story wise you will be dissapointed from a bit to a lot depending on how much you value you placed on story elements. The story can stand on its own and how people view you changes quite a bit as an orlesian commander so there is some replay value there, but not not as much as there was in origins.

Awakening is a fine expansion but IMO, I probably would have waited to get it when it was about $20-30 instead of buying it for $40 like I did. Now I don't have any regrets buying it but it took me about 18 hours to finish it doing just about every side quest with my imported level 22 Warden.

Basically, the combat and level design are fantastic in Awakening. You could argue that it gets pretty easy once you start leveling up but if you enjoyed the combat in Origins, you'll enjoy it even more in Awakening. The level design and art is vastly improved in Awakening too- all of the levels are just so much more interesting visually and are less tedious to explore than in DAO.

But IMO, the characters and dialogue feel a little hollow this time around. Its not that the new characters are bad or anything- I thought they were all quite interesting- its just that with the shortened nature of an expansion pack, sometimes their development seems rushed or they just aren't going to be as fleshed out as the ones in Origins. And the dialogue system is different- for better or worse you'll probably just need to play to decide.

The main story itself I thought was interesting but I was disappointed a little because I was expecting more from the villains. They're there and there cool but I just wish they were more present in the story.

But overall, if you primarily enjoyed the combat and world of DAO you'll enjoy Awakening for anywhere from 10-25 hours. One thing is that I don't think there is nearly as much replayability in Awakening as there was in Origins. I can only see myself playing it maybe 2 more times. And if you're thinking of picking up Awakening primarily for the story and new character interactions, well you might end up being a bit disappointed.

If you think of the game in terms of pure value for your buck, no it's not worth it. Also, take all the hype that has been made about this thing and throw it out the window. Ultimately, my advice would be to wait a bit until it goes down in price. Awakening, while a very good expansion, should have been about $30.00.

Yeah, you can finally get some respect from a title, or if you played human noble orgins even more respect. The replay value is good spend least ten hours on this game..

WHY are you not buying this game yet?

WHY?

I paid 40$ and I regret that. It's not a bad game, but I feel like I overpaid seriously for what I got and that turns an otherwise decent game sour for me. For 20$ it's okay, I guess. If you want the same value for money you got for Dragon Age Origins I'd say it'd have to be 10$. Then it would be the same great bargain DA:O was.

I just hope Bioware is reading these posts. I think there is a broad consensus throughout the boards that if you are going to charge us that much for an expansion, it needs to be better than this one. There is very little replay value in this expansion for me as well. I'll probably play it though once as each type of charcter, maybe twice for the rogue so I can do both archer and dual-weapons but I can't see playing it more than that other than as a practice game to hone mage skills.....I was disappointed in the writing....if it were a runway dress I would say that the seams were all lumpy and showing....not a smooth fit at all.

Awakenings would have made a nice $10-20 expansion but is overpriced at $40. Sorry, just didn't have any challenge to it. My characters overwhelmed everything in their path. None were ever in much danger. DAO had spots in it that were hard as hell, at least the first time, but there was nothing like that in this expansion.

I'm British, I got it (PC version) from amazon.co.uk for £14.99. That seems like a fair price. I'm surprised it's more expensive in America - usually the reverse is true.

Having said that I haven't installed it yet - I've heard about all the bugs and I'm a bit scared to, to be honest!
