I never had any random encounter while I had Velanna in the group, so when I pop back to my pre-endgame save, I'll have to try going from location to location to try and trigger it.

I doubt I'll be able to get Sigrun's quest due to the glitch messing it up. I'll have to worry about it in a later playthrough, but we'll probably have figured it out by then.

Is it just set in stone, I wonder? Do we have any other variances to report? Has anyone had, for instance, Oghren or Nathaniel die back at the keep? Has anyone had Justice survive the siege?

You can do Sigrun's quest as long as you 1.) do not gain approval with her 2.) do not pick up the law and order quest.

Overall pretty simple, I'm trying to get the word out as far as possible.

With maxed out walls, Silverite ore for armor (wich as far as I know is the strongest), and I don't know if explosives are a factor, but got that as well.

For me Justice died during the siege wich I think is strange, because he had 100 approval. Took Sigrun to the final battle but got her "depressing" ending, because she had the lowest approval rating (Also recruited her last, missed her joining, plus sparing the architect gives a -10 even if you succeed at persuading).

As a funny note, the peasant you force to enter the army gets it's own slide at the end (he became a hero during the battle blahblahblah...), and I just read that there's is another guy you can get in the army if you side with the smugglers in Amaranthine, might try that on my next playtrough.

Yeah. I read your thread on the subject. I just can't do her quest in my current playthrough.

Thank you for adding the information into this thread.

Here's some further speculation from more reading on my part:

Leave behind Oghren (certainly a capable fighter), Nathaniel (Vigil's Keep was his home; he'll defend it), and Anders. This brings the big three culprits, Velanna, Sigrun, and Justice to slay The Mother. It certainly makes sense in Justice's case, being that it's the entire reason he's stayed with you. Sigrun does request to go with you to the city. And Velanna being part of a mobile party makes it much harder for a tower to fall on her. Hah.

This could even answer, with a little research and more speculation, the question of whether personal quests count.

Has anyone done Sigrun's personal quest and got to the end?

[Don't do Law and Order or Smuggler's run.]

Velanna will get a extra scene with her sister if you take her to the mother's lair

Velanna can die in the Joining? Really? How? Or do you mean Mhairi?

That sounds interesting. has anyone tried this? I am about to. I have done everyone's personal quests except velanna's (if she even has one) and oghren's (because i cant find enough booze-gifts to make him warm up to me). however, they all have a pretty good rating (80+ish) so i'll see if that has anything to do with it

sydranark: If you have done Sigrun's personal quest, can you tell us whether she's died while defending Vigil's Keep? On a related note, did she go through the Joining?

Quick Question:

In my ending there was some horrible violence between villagers in the wending woods and the Dalish. Is their anyway to avoid that, its odd because I had covered for Velanna when that merchant guy questioned me about doing the quest. I had the option to turn around and ask "Velanna would you like to add something?", would that have fixed it or not?

Velanna has a quest that triggers in a random encounter after you get her approval up to nearly 100.

Really?  That makes sense and would explain that part of the story as well as keep Velanna alive.  Does she still run off to the Deep Roads to look for her sister then, even after seeing / meeting her there?

Definitely on to something with this and it makes sense.

I didn't realize the other members could die in the ending. :o

This is what I got on my first playthrough:

- I never finished Ohgren or Justice's quests.

- I took Anders, Justice, and Sigrun with me to save Amaranthine.

- Velanna was crushed, but no body was found

- Nathaniel led a defense and lived. He later did his own thing and his nephew ended up regaining the family honor.

- Ohgren took on two ogres, was knocked out, then awoke to people calling him a hero for "holding the line". He was separated from Felsi and the child.

- Vigil's Keep was fully upgraded

- Justice was all sad one day and said something like "I know what must be done" and left Kristoff's body.

- Sigrun eventually left for her calling

- My sword, Vigilance was stolen by Antivan Crows. D:

Well got the happy ending, beside everyone growling about my decision in defending the keep.Vellana went for her sister, Nathaniel got his honor back and a statue, Ohgren is a Family Guy now with my Wardens support on the letters,Justice done what he had to do and went back to his home in the Fade, Anders got emo, but cheer up and returned, Sigrun decided to go for her calling as for my Warden, he got his sword stealed by antivan nagas and resumed in his quest looking for Morrigan, with his other sword The Mothers Calling.

And hope that I can continue with my Warden on DA:2 since there is plenty of unanswered questions.

I didn't even made Sigrun or Valenna grey wardens, (they didn't drink the blood) and yet it said they still went on the calling or something

Just finished mine.

Velanna - in her personal quest and brought her to face the Mother(she got the extra scene w/ her sis there). In her ending, She stays with the Wardens for years, defends a human village from the Darkspawn single handedly. Then one day on a mission in the deep roads, she says she saw her sister. She goes to run off after her and is never heard from again.

I did everyone's personal quest except Oghren's (the scene w/ Felsi triggered, but never progressed beyond that). Brought Anders, Velanna, and Sigrun to fight the Mother. Justice died defending the keep. Nathaniel was a hero of the battle, and stayed with the Wardens for years, then one day decided it wasn't for him and disappeared. Ogren was a hero, Felsi an her kid came by for a while then stopped. The Warden managed to prevent Sigrun from goinf to the Deep Roads for decades. Anders was called by the Circle to speak about the nature of the Architect, and returned to the Wardens shortly after.

The Crows stole Vigilance - does that happen no matter what?

The other stuff: Since I focused on protecting the trade routes, the arling's farms were decimated in the war but the city and the Keep prospered and the keep became a huge trade hub in the following years. New settlers eventually came to the farms. Oh and some dudewho I spared and let join the army founded an order of knights that lased for 1000 years.

Probably. Too bad, it was a great sword and with it I finally got the heavy hitter achievement. Still, that it one way to explain why it's not their in a future game. Unlike with the Starfang. It's just as well, though. If we had learned that the Crows forgot why they stopped accepting contracts on the Hero of Ferelden and took that...well, Zevran could always use another pair of hands in his mission to utterly crush them, couldn't he? Posted Image

Everyone got a happy ending for me except for Velanna. I did all of their personal quests but I left Velanna at the Keep and killed the Architect, so she just vanished.

Everyone stayed on as a GW except for her. Justice only stopped being a Warden when he decomposed too much for Aura to deal with anymore and then he just dropped dead right there (I do have to wonder what kind of relationship they could have it seemed awkward when they met) and Sigrun kept having to postpone her call due to emergencies the WC kept needing her help with. Nathaniel never left the Wardens and Oghren sent letters to his wife and child. Not to mention everyone thought the Keep was the most awesome building ever as it didn't fall during the Siege.

Okay. Just finished the game with what I speculated about, as quoted above.

- Architect dead; Mother dead.
- Amaranthine saved. Everyone loves us. Restored within a year; Vigil's Keep is restored within five.
- Farms are protected (this is where I ordered the soldiers); farmers develop ongoing reliance on the Wardens.
- The Vigil's dwarven walls hold. The Vigil's soldiers' silverite mail works wonders. The siegers break. The soldiers become known as the Silver Order. Ser Alec. All that.

And now the good stuff:
I'll be typing out the text as exactly I got it. If you don't want to read it, scroll down to the next post, in which I'll make a summary of my results.

(SPOILERS: EPILOGUE TEXT FOLLOWS)

- "The survivors of the siege at Vigil's Keep hailed Anders and his magic for holding back hundreds of the assaulting darkspawn. In the ensuing victory celebration, the men dragged the mage to the fire to engage him in a drinking contest. Anders lost.
"Anders remained with the Grey Wardens a few years longer, training the order's next generation of mages. But when the Circle Tower called on him to deliver a lecture on the nature of the Architect - much to the templars' dismay - Anders told the Commander of the Grey that his time with the Wardens was over.
"And yet, not two months later, Anders returned to the order. Ever after, the Wardens were his home and his lasting companions."

- "Velanna never saw her clan again, but neither did she forsake her Dalish culture - nor her sharp tongue, nor her quick temper.
"After several years in the Grey Wardens, Velanna disappeared one day. Most surmise that she left for the Deep Roads to resume the search for her sister, but no one knows for sure."

- "Nathaniel managed to survive the battle at Vigil's Keep, heading a spirited defense in the last minutes to protect his family home. That ferocity impressed many of his fellow soldiers, who hoisted him to their shoulders and paraded him around the courtyard when the battle was done.
"Over the next years, Nathaniel dedicated himself to the order and to clearing the blemishes on his family's name. After saving Teyrn Fergus Cousland from a bandit attack, a portion of Amaranthine was returned to the Howes.
Nathaniel passed the holding to Delilah's son, and when a new castle was eventually built there, a statue of Nathaniel was erected in its courtyard."

- "Justice served the Grey Wardens for many years, remaining in touch with Aura, the widow of Kristoff. She grew uncomfortable with the body's decay, however, and the day she told Justice she could see him no longer was the day he left the order.
"Justice wished his comrades well, then Kristoff's body slumped to the ground, dead. Aura finally had a body to mourn. If the spirit itself remains alive, it has not shown itself."

- "With the Mother dead, Sigrun seemed to lose her purpose. She withdrew from her friends in the order and spoke to them less and less each day.
"One morning, Sigrun was simply absent, her bed made and her trunk emptied. A young recruit who had been up in the night said she had left for her Calling, gone to finish what she started in Kal'Hirol."

- "At Vigil's Keep, Oghren rallied a last-minute defense of the gate, taking on two ogres simultaneously to allow others time to regain the courtyard. He eventually passed out from blood loss, and when he awoke weeks later, nobody was more surprised than he to discover he had been credited as a hero.
"Oghren continued to regale young Warden recruits with tales of his prowess in both battle and bed. His drinking games prompted at least one recruit to declare that she'd rather reattempt the Joining than lift another mug.
"At the Warden-Commander's urging, Oghren took a more active role in his child's life. He visited Felsi often, and wrote letters - which the Warden-Commander graciously proof-read - nearly every week."

Results: Took Justice, Sigrun, and Velanna along. Oghren, Nathaniel, and Anders were left behind to defend Vigil's Keep. Everyone survived. Sigrun and Velanna eventually disappear because of loose ends - at least, that's what I believe to be the reason.

This leaves absolutely no question in my mind that doing the personal quests of your companions results in the better endings for them. This is not very different from how Origins changed for characters based on their personal quests - there's just a much smaller matter of change, which fits since it's an expansion.

Oghren and Nathaniel seem to be the big MVPs for defending the Keep. I've read some people who have had Anders die there - does he live because of his quest being completed? If so, does this also carry over to Justice, Velanna, and Sigrun? That remains a big part of the question. I can test this by leaving Justice behind, since I did his personal quest, perhaps with Oghren and Nathaniel to be absolutely sure of whether or not the defenders have a "score" that, in turn, helps to protect whoever you leave with them.
