hum, long title.
not sure where the thread should go, well ti goes here since i even consider character names spoiler (even though everyone else knows about it, and heck, awakening says i've only finished 12% of it :P)
dunno if it was discussed earlier. not sure what to search for, but...

companions are damned lazy when you are not leading them around in a small squad. This is true for both the mass effect series an dragon age. though its excusable in origins, less so in awakening.

Mass Effect: Some seem like they are doing something but some others (wrex) don't do anything at all since the time you recruited them, if you never take them on a mission.

Mass Effect 2: Maybe 3 are actually doing something (one of them really important sciency stuff, the others seem more like they are trying to avoid talking to me) the rest hangs around doing nothing (oh and one spies on you  or something).

not too bad with those games.

Dragon Age Origins: While no one is actually doing anything at camp, it's understandable. It's night, everyone gets to do what they want as long as they stay alert and so on. and since i never put up tents, got firewood nor got food, it must be them doing it, so it seems they do keep busy when i'm gone.

Dragon Age Awakening: they all stay in the hall doing nothing.... ok, Ohgren keeps drinking. Nathaniel keeps staring at his mothers portrait aaaand i think thats it, the rest stares at nothingness.... ooh i guess morrigan-substitute writes in her brand new journal, but Alistair-Zevran-Wynne-hybrid (i do know the names, but its kinda what i feel about them) really is doing nothing. COME ON, i get repeatedly told that we don't have enough guards. the least you could do is be useful while you are hanging around vigils keep. go on, do something, and i'll call you when i need you, or you can come if you want to tell me something.

well just had to say this. now back to solving random problems in my arling

That is totally Anders. And it is the best description of him yet!

Edit: OP described him as an Alistair-Zevran-Wynne hybrid.  Which is spot on!

That was something they did a good job of improving in ME2 wherein there's a clear off-the-battlefield role for each squad member.

Sigrun has an entire library-full of books to read before she runs off and gets herself killed. I'm not really sure what Justice does all day...maybe walks around the Keep marvelling at how awesome the mortal world is? That's all he ever did when I took him with me. And Anders probably has to keep Oghren from eating Ser Pounce-a-lot. Leliana certainly had her hands full when she had that stupid nug.
