I quite like the VanderShep, so I usually keep him for my male characters.

It's much easier to make a good-looking FemShep.

The only problem I had with the customizing was the very, very bad hair options. All look like plastic except the close to bald ones.

Wow, that is actually one of the best custom Shepards, male or female I have seen. Awesome!

The point is that I tried to make a custom face male Shepard and it all just felt...off.
Anyone else feel the same?
It is tedious to make a decent face because the face you make in the character creator is not the face you'll see in game. I have to make a face, take down all the face information, go ingame, see what needs adjusting, input the data over again, then make the changes, then go back into the game, etc. etc. until it is perfect.

I'm probably going to get shot for saying this; but I don't care for Jennifer Hale's voice acting in Mass Effect at all. I feel like she's trying way too hard to sound tough and that her emotion is often misplaced.Nordic Einar wrote...
Jennifer Hale's voice acting on ME is just fabulous. It's a travesty to eve suggest using a male shepard, imho.
Now that I've got that off my chest, I almost always use the default Shepard. I don't necessarily do it because the voice only feels right coming from him, but moreso that I can't be bothered to spend an hour in the character creator getting just the right look.
That said, default Male DOES have the best animated face I've seen.

Meanwhile, I feel like Meer is just trying to read his lines as quickly as possible, so he can go home.
He did better in ME1 than ME2, though, as far as I'm concerned.

In any case, I've played as both male and female Shepard (in nearly all classes now), but I have never used 'Sheploo,' so to speak. I am simply sick of seeing his face since he hordes s all of ME's marketing. I was actually fine with Sheploo for a long while; didn't care at all back when I was playing ME1, but ME2...EA has been putting a lot of effort into showcasing the default Shepard. So much so, that I feel a bit violated.
It also helps that my maleShep seems to fit the role better (in looks and voice).

I love the face of your Custom Shepard. I am going to begin a new game now and enter it in and maybe finally complete the game as a Male Shepard in ME2.
I always go with a custom female Shepard. I only did Default Male Shepard in ME1 once because I didn't know you could make custom characters at first.

Engineer, Colonist, Earthborn, Male, default face. I just didn't want to make a custom face because I think Mark Meer's voice only really sounds right coming out of sheploo.
I've come to realize the only reason I can't handle Mark Meer's voice is because it sounds awful coming out of sheploo.
Nah, I kid, it's not the only reason.

I did want to change her hair color at first but saw it wasn't possible. I've since come to actually like it as it is.
I do always create a custom face for male Shepard, however.

I just wish they got a great looking female model to scan for the female Shep (like Gemma Atkinson, for example).
