Thanks! I always fail at making non-ape-like Shepards.

That custom Shep looks pretty badass, truth be told. He'd only work for a Renegade playthrough though.

I quite like the VanderShep, so I usually keep him for my male characters.

No.

Female Shepard is the only way to fly.

I do both default and custom. Custom shepards can be hard to make because the preveiw system is weird on most BW games. And not all the nose's/eyes are available based on what facial structure you choose.

I only do custom. Got one face done that I'm happy with and I'm never going to use a different one.

I've yet to create a MaleShep I'm happy with, unfortunately. I tend to always screw something up, but not realize until I've played for a while, and as such I end up finishing the game with with a crappy-looking Shepard.

It's much easier to make a good-looking FemShep.

I've stuck with using the one custom Shepard I first made. Looks better than the preset to me anyway.

The only problem I had with the customizing was the very, very bad hair options. All look like plastic except the close to bald ones.

Well if you listen to Ray Muzyka, Shepard is a "pre-defined" character, so i guess all the changes we make are kinda futile

The point is that I tried to make a custom face male Shepard and it all just felt...off.
Anyone else feel the same?

It is tedious to make a decent face because the face you make in the character creator is not the face you'll see in game. I have to make a face, take down all the face information, go ingame, see what needs adjusting, input the data over again, then make the changes, then go back into the game, etc. etc. until it is perfect.

Default Shepard's expressions are kind of hilarious. That's the only reason I'd play as him.

Jennifer Hale's voice acting on ME is just fabulous. It's a travesty to eve suggest using a male shepard, imho.

I'm probably going to get shot for saying this; but I don't care for Jennifer Hale's voice acting in Mass Effect at all.  I feel like she's trying way too hard to sound tough and that her emotion is often misplaced.

Now that I've got that off my chest, I almost always use the default Shepard.  I don't necessarily do it because the voice only feels right coming from him, but moreso that I can't be bothered to spend an hour in the character creator getting just the right look.

That said, default Male DOES have the best animated face I've seen.

Meanwhile, I feel like Meer is just trying to read his lines as quickly as possible, so he can go home.

He did better in ME1 than ME2, though, as far as I'm concerned.

Although I prefer Jennifer Hale, I usually pick my custom made Shepard. I don't think default Shepard makes the male voice any better then custom.

Why would default Shepard be the only way to go in a customizable RPG?

In any case, I've played as both male and female Shepard (in nearly all classes now), but I have never used 'Sheploo,' so to speak. I am simply sick of seeing his face since he hordes s all of ME's marketing. I was actually fine with Sheploo for a long while; didn't care at all back when I was playing ME1, but ME2...EA has been putting a lot of effort into showcasing the default Shepard. So much so, that I feel a bit violated.

It also helps that my maleShep seems to fit the role better (in looks and voice).

I love the face of your Custom Shepard. I am going to begin a new game now and enter it in and maybe finally complete the game as a Male Shepard in ME2.

I always go with a custom female Shepard. I only did Default Male Shepard in ME1 once because I didn't know you could make custom characters at first.

Engineer, Colonist, Earthborn, Male, default face. I just didn't want to make a custom face because I think Mark Meer's voice only really sounds right coming out of sheploo.

I've come to realize the only reason I can't handle Mark Meer's voice is because it sounds awful coming out of sheploo.

Nah, I kid, it's not the only reason.

I think default female Shepard is cute so I never make a custom face for her.

I did want to change her hair color at first but saw it wasn't possible. I've since come to actually like it as it is. :)

I do always create a custom face for male Shepard, however.

I usually stick with the default male Shep (which looks pretty good imo).

I just wish they got a great looking female model to scan for the female Shep (like Gemma Atkinson, for example).
