It seems

Soldier - Use A-rush, no brainer here.
Infiltrator - Use cloak and take advantage of sniper-focus
Vanguard - Use charge, keep charging - the shieldboost makes you invincible.
Adept - Use singularity/warp combo, add in dominate for extra mass hilarity.
Engineer/Sentinel - ???

I dunno how the last two classes are great for insanity. But haven't been reading into it much.

I play every class. My favourite is infiltrator .. just 'cos I like the style (and the survivability, 'cos I like doing "1 life" games ...).

But I play vanguard when I'm after some high octane slaughterfest (or gigglefest, when I play my shuriken vanguard).

Sentinel with assault armor and shotgun is like a Vanguard.

You charge on foot.

Shields down? cast tech armor. Shields down again? who cares, everyone is dead.

It wasn't always so, and I fear that in the general forum it still isn't so. The vanguard was a class that practically no one knew how to use at launch and so they filled the forums with post after post after post about how ME 2 had ruined the class and about how gimped and awful they were. Charge was the worst ability in the game, and running a vanguard through insanity was an impossibility. A few of us wasted our time in general trying to counter ignorance with fact and eventually took refuge here in the class forums when they were finally open to the public. As little as 3 weeks ago there was still rampant misinformation being spread in general, even while there was a HUGE thread right here proving them all wrong. As far as I know, general is still as misinformed about vanguards as they were on day one.

I find it truly amazing that even with all your, gatsby's, ramsenC's and Sabre's (there's another guy but I can't think of his name, all I can remember is he has a krogan for his avatar)  videos on youtube that people can still be that misinformed.  I was a diehard soldier player till I saw one of your insanity sucide runs with the vanguard and I haven't looked back since.  Granted, I take plenty of dirt naps on insanity cause I'm just not all that good, but the playstyle is extremely addictive even with all the dieing I do.

ive played mostly as a sentinel. it is an awesome class. two great debuffs, throw field, tech armor is as cool looking as it is powerfull. playing the sentinel really feels like your getting the most out of the ME universe with bio and tech powers. i usually add the sniper rifle becasue adding the sniper rifle in a shooter is always a good idea.

i just started playing the vangaurd for the first time now and im having alot of fun with it. i made my first femshep too and shes hot as hell so its being a really great run right now. pull is awesome and shockwave is being really usefull for me too. i am onoly playing on veteran because i hate biotics being inefective, so having no debuff is fine. im playing around with reave ight now and havent really found anything better. pull, shockwave and charge are all awesome and fun abilities. im suprised how much im using the shotgun too.

thers really only two classes that id deem as AWESOME. thats the vangaurd and the infiltrator. both of those classes had an idea of what they were in ME1, but now in ME2, those two classes are the defenition of what youd want from a vangarud or an infiltrator. if only the other classes could catch up.

i havent tried an aengineer yet tho, and im thinking dominate/engineer would be up with those two as well. ill prolly find out in about a month.

but I think the sentinel is probably the "strongest" class in terms that they don't really need the squad for anything... Warp for armor, overload for shields, throw for pushing peeps off platforms and stuff. The only way to get killed is to be stupid (I've done that quite a few times...)

In terms of "fun" (e.g.: geronimoooooo...) you can't beat the vanguard.

Shep309: I think you mean Kronner by the guy with the krogan avatar making amazing vids.

I envy those who can play every class and enjoy all aspects of the game combat. I haven't been able to do that yet. I started sentinel and infiltrator runs but quit too quickly to go back and play another vanguard - I was trying to play those classes like a vanguard anyway, charging on foot and all. I hope maybe after an insanity run, I'll have enough of it and can play other classes.

I've finished the game on Insanity with all the classes. Vanguard was okay, but I never seemed to get the knack of popping opponents like I see in some of the videos here. At times, yes, Other times it feels like the whole map is shooting only at me and I drop in 2 seconds. Watched various videos and it looks like for some people videos that opponents ignore Shepard for a while. I don't ever recall getting that luxury.

As I said, it was okay. Fun at times. Absolutely dominated some maps. Lousy at others unless I was prepared to die 10 times to figure out a Vanguard specific game-plan that worked for each map. The number of times I got a "Can't get a lock error" was frustrating in the extreme. Running around with silence and blood veins and not being able to see clearly wasn't fun either.

TBH, I enjoyed Infiltrator and Engineer best (Eng was my favorite). Sentinel was good, along with Adept. I'd put Soldier and Vanguard together as my two least favorite classes, even though I had no trouble dominating the game with either.

Meh, each to their own I guess.

I was not very intrigued by the Engineer class until this last playthrough. It was Tali's loyalty mission and as a vanguard, I don't stay back and watch my squadies. And unfortunately too, because sometimes I enjoy team work. But in one room where there seems to be endless geth, Legion and Tali started spamming drones and AI Hacking immediately and I just froze there, watching the chaos. Too much fun. I just charged/one shot sometimes to allow Legion Area AI Hack (a power I did not care at all before) but other than that, did almost nothing - which was a first. Changed my obliviousness about the class, definitely.

Hmm maybe I'll just start a soldier class, play a while then cheat and change the class to engineer then repeat with infiltrator, sentinel and adept. Voila. I played all the classes in one playthrough and ruined the game.

If people seem to suck with something, its always the class/hero/spec/ that is something wrong with, not the person playing the above.

What did gamers do before fora's like this existed, where they could come whine/complain and ask for help?
That's right, they sucked it up, adapted, and eventually mastered it. Today people rather want to go whine instead of trying to figure out how to beat a given scenario by themselves. Just look at the guy in the "insanity is stupid" thread.

People are less reluctant to try out stuff on their own, when they know places like this exist.

Thats why I avoid places like this, until i've actually beaten the game on my own, then i start looking at what i can improve and how other people do things :)
Bit more ontopic, played vanguard in ME1, so it felt natural to continue with that in ME2. I knew nothing about the different skills and how charge was going to work etc.
After that I played Infiltrator, because i never got to do that in ME1. There just nothing like taking down enemies from afar with a well-placed headshot :)

So I got my insanity achievement with my Vanguard. Loaded my NG+ insanity infiltrator for a change. BORING!!! and I used to love it and it was my "natural" class. Looks like I can't play any other class than vanguard now :(

Yeah. Playing a Sentinel in ME2 feels a lot like Vanguard did in ME1. ME2 Vanguard is an entirely new animal.
