There was no real male voice I liked 100%; I couldn't find a male voice which sounded heroic and deep.
But the female 'snarky' voice fit my dwarven rogue really well; helped me round out her character in my head.

My first actual playthrough was with my female Dalish elf rogue.

The DAO PCs may be silent, but thank goodness they have battle voices. Once I heard those voices, I use my mind to fill in the gap of silence during dialogue options.

The last voice option for a female elf, "Violent" or whatever (haven't played in a few months), is great. It fits a sinister rogue very well.

Aah... will use that for my potential City Elf playthru then. Gotta play as female for that origin, turn Persistent Gore back on (I have it off) and play Kill Bill soundtrack in the background LOL.

I play both male and female characters. If I play a rogue in any game, I generally will make it female.

yea but the human violent one made me want to strangle my Cousland girl. If she said she was gonna fetch a ladder ONE more time I would have tossed my computer out the window. She got deleted and never made it out of Ostagar.

Lol, that is a pretty big complaint with that voice. Thankfully there's a mod for that.

Playing as a female character makes me feel out of palce (I take my RP seriously), so I don't play as a female.
Got a friend who plays with female characters all the time. His excuse is that if he has to stare at a PlayerCharacter for hours he prefers to stare at the backside of a woman. Good for him I guess. I don't stare at my PC, I usally checking the surroundings.
For me, it is acutally EASIER to roleplay using female pcs (i'm a guy). If I play as a male character, I tend to put WAAYYY to much of my own personality into him. To me, that defeats the purpose of selecting a character, giving them goals, and then allowing them to let their personality shine through as the game progresses (not just in DAO, but all rpgs).
Eventually after a couple of playthroughs, then I tend to make a character like myself....Sadly, those pcs wind up being the cannon min/max, powergaming characters that make me move on to something esle
Eeeeerrrmm....so Yup, I play female characters.

And it paid off handsomely. Everything just felt perfect. And contray to many people, I actually enjoy having the "violent" voiceset on my Cousland. It fits her perfectly and makes me lol here and there.

In cases like that, I'll play a female, but more often than not, I'll play males, as I find them easier to identify with. (obviously)

I prefer to play female char in ME and male char in DAO. I wonder why ?
Because females can look like crap-o-la in DAO?
EDIT: I'm thinking of playing as a female on my next run, but not until I have made a good looking morph.
I usually play a female character, as the armor options seem, to me, to look so much better on them.
There are quite a few good morphs out there for femail characters, it's the hairstyles that drive me nuts, even with the "more hairstyle mods" there is only one I like

But I have not preceeded past Ostaggar with her yet, as I am not fond of the fighting style.

Besides, how are you supposed to get the Alistair romance option without it?
throw him off a cliff? oh, get the romance achievement...
just baitin' ya, no need to get angry.
I almost exclusively play girls in games, and I'm a dude IRL. I think the biggest reason is that I feel that I'm protecting my characters and guiding them to safety in a way. ok, a little bit is to look at something nice for hours upon hours of play, but that's like 5%.
I don't want to protect dudes, that's just lame to me and they don't need it anyway. I might roll one for RP, or to mess around or something, but not often.

I still can't do Alistair romance though (one Kaidan+FemShephard scene was jarring enough for me......)
