You could do that in Jade Empire as well.Emerald Melios wrote...
The fact that Dragon Age actually let's you roleplay a lesbian is something almost unprecedented in these kinds of games
How many guys actually play girl characters on DA:o?

I played through as both though the majority of my toons are female. If I am going to be staring at my toons backside for many hours it is nice if it is shapely.

I'm a girl who almost always plays a male character. Used to be there weren't many options for playing a female character anyway, so I got used to playing men. Then, when there were more options for female characters, the romances and such were usually poorly developed so I still played guys. Now it's habit. When I try to play female, it usually feels a bit too much like an author insert. I have an easier time keeping the PC's and my personality separate when I RP as the opposite gender.

My excuse for playing female characters is that i''m a wannabe author who happens to made some truly wild female main characters across several manuscripts.Playing them in a AD&D game can be hilarious at times.

I play both male and female characters, I don't see why gender should stand in the way of replayability.
What I don't get is people using characters of the opposite sex as forum avatars, what's up with that?

Now that you mention it theMufflon...that is kinda strange....i have no idea either why i made this avatar my choice. One of lifes many mysteries perhaps?Or perhaps i just picked one on a whim...

Oh, I dunno. I'm an elf, but I had a dwarven avatar for the longest time. I guess I have magical resistance envy or something. And my human avatar was simply due to jealousy.

I play as pretty much anything and everything.
I like being able to tell different stories, sorta like a director or a writer.

I usually play a male (I'm a male) but I know other guys who play females because of the "something nice to look at" reason. With this game I've made some female characters just to explore the unique choices a female PC can make but at least for me it's easier to be immersed as a male to understand my character's motivations better.

Unlike ME1/2 this game feels much more 1st person. I've never been able to complete playthroughs with a female character myself.

I tend to play females, but I play some guys as well. It depends on concept, if I come up with a good male concept I'll play him, but as others have said I find it easier to RP a different gender differently, if I play a guy, he tends to be me unless I'm quite rigorous about it. (I have a male noble who I like a lot, have made him very roguish, and I have a male dwarf noble, because hey, why not.)
And my first character in the game was a city elf female, because the background (especially the wedding dress pic) just immediately grabbed me. Likewise, female dwarf commoner just seems better. If I'm going to be downtrodden, might as well be really downtrodden.

I am a straight male who has 14 female characters, as a matter of fact the only male character i made was just for the witch gone wild and he was deleted promptly afterwards. Say what you want but if given the choice female tail or male tail waving in my face the chicks will always win. I always enjoyed Aeon Flux and that is exactly what i aim for every time.
My avatars change usually to reflect the tart i am playing at the time.

Hmm i do lean toward female charecters, i'm a sucker for a good romance in RPG's and Alistair has the best one with female wardens. Zevran's is pretty decent & It's entertaining to see how aggresive Leliana is in pursuit of female wardens, Guys don't get much, Morigan is fun at the beginning but at the end she's just totaly intolerible & unlikible, Leliana's is allright but not as fun as the female version and Zevan with guys is...awkward....though i usualy will stick a male elf mage with Zev, just seems to fit O__o Males are only fun if you just screw around with random npcs
You can tell Alistair was the fav in development and it got all the attention leaving all the other romantic pursuits to feel hollow, more the waste in awakening as Nathanial, Anders & Valenna are such ideal romance options for players, really droped the ball on that
Also between the two genders the female wardens look better design wise, i always get that blank mannequin look with male charecters no matter how i play with the options....."creepy" would be an understatement

I'm thinking of making a female Orlesian warden once I'm finished the Awakening playthrough with my current warrrior. Just that I'm not sure what race/class to play as for her. I'm thinking either human warrior or human rogue.

I play both genders - why deny myself access to game content that I've paid for? Same principle for most games really.

Both. Although my main playthrough in DA:O was a female human mage. I think it comes from playing MMO's where a female character was always treated better and helped out more often, even after people found out you were a guy. You would often even be PKed less (which was foolish and dangerous for them, lol)
Dude! I know what you mean! I used to play Runescape and I made like 5 mil from idiots who would give me stuff by having my avatar be a girl! lmao.
But... I do play as girls a lot in games... dunno why. It's probably because when I play games I want it to be so totally different from my own real lif. Who cares, really?

Played both gender and I was surprised that Alistair don't ask female pc if she is virgin too like when you play a male pc. Anyway, they aren't really any difference beside the romances.
My main character is a female mage but I made a male elf because : a guy holding 2 swords is just too awesome

im already the manliest man in existence in RL. playing a male character that doesn't look or talk like me is just weird and unrealistic (cos clearly I'd be the best man for the job). So I play a chick since otherwise I wouldn't be able to suspend my own disbelief.

I tried to play a female character in DAO once but realized there were no Laundry or Vacuum skills in the game so it didn't long.
