I don't know where you got the idea that would be a major problem, there are dozens and dozens of instances of that

If it was that easy, we would have seen more of our old friends such as Zevran and Leliana in Awakenings. Other than a cameo by Anora/Alistair in the beginning and the snow globe content, there is no indication on how Origins ended. The  NPCs you cannot have a romance with in Origins are the only ones who carries over.

Given the buggy ending sequences in Origins, it is clear that the game does NOT properly record all the possible combinations of endings. So unless the Morrigan combinations were properly recorded, it would be a major problem.

There is also another reason for starting anew. The developers for the next sequence of games may not want to be restricted to rehashing Origins. They may want to start fresh in another country and society. Given the turnover in the industry the DA2 maye well be done by a virtually new crew who want to make their own mark on the franchise.

Ummm... yeah, I'm quite positive that one of Bioware's big things is keeping a continuity of people working on projects. They're not ditching the people that made Origins to go bring in a totally new crew.

As for how little carried over from Origins to Awakening- the thing that needs to be kept in mind is that Awakening is an expansion pack and not a full game and therfore lacked the budget of a full game. So continuity wise it was likely way easier to make a little side story. If Bioware wants continuity to carry forward from Origins to DA2, then they could achieve that any number of ways- they could easily do a KOTOR2 style checklist at the onset to set relevant choices.

Thats not to say that DA2 won't have a new PC, but ultimately if bioware wants to bring the Warden back they will, if they want to go with a new PC then thats what they'll do- I just don't think there are any insurmountable technical or story telling limitations to bringing the Warden back in DA2.

YAY - and NAY *gets slapped in the face for being an indecisive idiot* Ok, I was going to explain that.
NAY because after DA:O, your Warden is way too powerful to start a new game with him or her. Even more so if you finished Awakening - in the end my human warrior was pretty much what I always imagined a hurricane would be like if you dressed it in heavy armor and handed it a sword the size of a lamppost.
The only way to make playing your old Wardens interesting again would be to cast *amnesia tier 9* on them - and I am sick and tired of the *you bumped your head on the door frame and now you don't remember how to put your pants on* plot device.
YAY because I would like the choices I made in DA to have an influence on the sequel. Who I made King and/or Queen, what city I saved and what castle I burned to the ground. I would like to see that mind you, I don't think it will actually happen. In DA, you could decide the fate of a whole nation. I mean, that was awesome and made me feel really important, but it must be a real pain to make a sequel based on your decisions in DA, because there are so many different ways the game could have ended.
So, in my opinion, the story of the sequel will take place in a kingdom far far away from Ferelden, and we will start as a new character, so our choices in the first game will have little to no influence on the plot.
Of course my opinion is not absolute, and I would gladly see Bioware make me look dumb by proving me wrong.

I vote nay, I hope to finish out the Warden's story in another expansion, one that includes the LI's.

I don't see any reason that it would have to be a Warden who deals with Morrigan's "satan baby" as you put it.

I'd love to see DA2 with Origins that were a bit more spread out, an Antivan Crow, one of those knights of Orlais, a Qunari warrior...etc etc etc...I think that would be really neat. (Though I don't know how plausible that would be.

I say Yay. It is not that hard to make a connection between the games and why can not the neighboring countries be the backdrop? You can get the chans to go to Par Vollen whit Sten or to start with a new character if you want to but whit your characters chosen as the reality of the world in the game. (If Anora is queen she is Queen for example) To do a game where nothing of the lose ends the left are explained would “be Bad” or at least to me.

Regardless of whether or not the Warden continues into DA2, I hope that the sequel (if it uses a similiar levelling system) doesn't start us out at level 1. I much prefer everyone starting out somewhere between 18-23 as was the case in Awakening.

I'm finding it really hard to go back to the beginning of Origins when I know it's going to take me hours and hours to amass all the abilities I like to use.

They try not to but success is another matter. You can watch the changes in the staff by reading the credits for each game from Baldur's Gate through its sequels to Mass Effect to Dragon Age. It is not necessarily bad to have turnover. New people can bring new ideas so Bioware is not rehashing the same game over and over again. That is one of the reason D&D has it various editions. Besides forcing people to buy a new set of books, it introduces new elements so people are not in a rut playing the same character over and over again.

It is a basic marketing rule that the first game in a series has to be very very very long. It gives the developers many opportunities to introduce new concepts and the player many places, monsters, weapons and loot to find. The result is it is supposed to take hours and hours to amass all the abilities you would like to use. The alternative is a reasonably short game with fast level rises but resets to level 1 in the sequel. That is basically what DW Bradley did in his Wizardry series.

Starting with level 30+ character in DA2 would be silly IMHO, but I definitely want for my actions from DA:O (especially if I took Morrigan's ritual, I just finished Awakening and was disappointed she's not been mentioned at all even though I said to Anora I intend to find her in the dialogue just before the post-campaign save) to influence events in DA2. So I would prefer importng the savegame for the storyline continuation, but start with new character.

If there's people from Origins as companions then yes, if not then no.

Yay. A legacy character over multiple games is one of the main draws of Mass Effect. I'd like to see that effect replicated with Dragon Age.
