I don't really know anything about computers...
I have an Intel Core 2 Duo CPU P8700 @ 2.53 GHz, 2.00 GB of Ram and Vista. I've gotten the latest windows update, which I assume means my drivers are updated? I also have the latest Direct X.

Any thoughts? I looked through the system specs on the readme but I don't know what a lot of it means, like ATIx300 or whatever.

Any help is appreciated, thanks alot.

At first blush, the situation certainly appears to be that you have an elderly, badly outdated computer that cannot run this game.  However, you chose not to even try to tell us the basics required to answer that.

social.bioware.com/forum/1/topic/58/index/509580

Minimum System Requirements for Mass Effect on the PC (This varied, depending on whether you looked at EA's site or Bioware's, but both contained video card errors)

Operating System:
Windows XP or Vista

Processor:
2.4+GHZ Intel or 2.0+GHZ AMD

Memory:
1 Gigabyte Ram (XP)
2 Gigabyte Ram (Vista)

Video Card:
NVIDIA GeForce 6 series(6800GT or better)

I have removed the foolishness that existed regarding the ATI Radeon minmimum card (it should be the the X1650 XT model, and the Geforce should be the 6800 GS).

Alright, I believe I have given you most of the information in my first post...

I told you I was running Vista with Intel at 2.53GHZ and 2 gigabytes of Ram.

I read the article you linked me to, but I'm still not sure how to find out what video card I have. Is it possible that it is Mobile Intel 4 Series Express Chipset Family? In that case... i can't run the game?

Thanks again,

In other news:

You're screwed. There has to be at least some dedicated horse beneath the laptop's hood. You've got a half-assed horse tail with one leg, aka the evil Intel 4 Series Express ****set.

(Ignore the language, I'm pissed off at my current rig.)

Sorry.  You have just about the worst possible laptop video device that there is -- and the machine is a dead end.  There is no available upgrade path for the video when you have that kind of cheaply made computer system.

Intel videochips are not supported in ME1&2 and this special one will not be able to run the game.

If you have a Desktop PC, get a real videocard. If you have a laptop, you just wasted your money on a game you can't play just because you were unable to read the system requirements which clearly states you need an ATI or nVidia videocard.

Thanks for the help.

I got the laptop free as a grant from school, and the game was a gift.

I might have missed you noting updating drivers for the chipset, but you might take a younder look at those, as issues that prevent the game from respounding may have been fixed. Bit of a long shot, but always worth the try.
