Hello there
I hope I'm in the right place for this question. You see, I'm all kinds of stuck on a quest in Denerim (sp) where I have to kill some Blood Mages.
I'm doing a chanter's quest to find someone, found him and am now in an abandoned house fighting mercs and blood mages. Trouble is, this quest is way to hard. I find myself dying frequently along with most of my companions, leaving Morrigan to finish each fight, as for some reason, she is the most powerful party member.
What am I doing wrong? I play a Shield Warrior yet can't take many hits at all. I thought I was supposed to be a tank?
Also, is it possible that my party tactics are wrong? I have the elf assassin (can't remember his name), Morrigan and Allistair.
Any help advice would be good.
I had the same problem my first run through this. My party and I got our butts kicked and wiped out. I decided to do this quest later in the game after I completed the Broken Circle quest and Urn of Sacred Ashes. By then my team and I had better weapons, armor and were more powerful. (I had Wynne at this time but have never used her here) This is how I handle it especially the mages:
1). As soon as you can level up Morrigan give her the Glyph of Paralysis(or any spell that incapitates any ranged attack) and set it as your first tactic to any ranged or magical attack. This will paralyze the mages or archers and I think you can set up the same tactic again in the second slot and use one of her offensive spells such as flame blast or whatever you have. Tempest spell is great for ranged magic and archer attackers especially if the are in groups.
2) If you have Zevran set his tactics to include the stealth option and assasin. He can sneak in and take out the archers or mages if you want to tag team him with morrigan or he can take out any attacking for visible rogue.
3) Keep yourself and another on the other enemies. If you can do it with Warrior status, get Mastered up in poisonmaking. You can make bombs, weapons coatings and other lethal items that can used in tightquarters. Two important poison that really help are Magebane and Soldiers Bane. They weaken these type of characters whether human or not. You can also buy these at various merchants too. I play a rogue and these items have saved us in many of tight battles with powerful mages or warriors.
4). If you are playing a tank with Alistair, when I did my first game I did a lot of shield bashing the hell out of enemies. You only seem to get so many ways to strike with your sword unless you go rogue and shieldbashing saved our butts a number of times again.
And as stated in one post, make sure you get a good supply of lyrium and health poulstices for healing. I keep those in my #3 slot in my tactics in tough battles.
Good luck!
