Really Bioware? I have time for the Chantry Board, but not for romances?

i set up guards and recruit people to deal with things. why should i be solving ALL their problems (helping out once in a while is alright) when i should be looking for more grey warden recruits and figuring out why darkspawn are invading amaranthine after a blight.searanox wrote...
Let's do a run-down of some of these quests... because aside from some of the odd jobs (which are established as odd jobs within the game universe itself), your duties involve the following: helping/protecting merchants, rescuing people from bandits, dealing with a large criminal network in the city, investigating Darkspawn raids, and rescuing noble families. How are any of these trivial tasks not fit for the hero of the land and its ruler? The only reason you end up doing quests like helping the "orphans" is because you choose to. There's plenty of totally non-essential and random quests in Origins that I don't see people complaining about...
you could explain that i don't have to do it, but the thing is that if i don't, the game counts it as if no one did

The quests were fun yes but do you honestly mean you would see your character rescuing every peasant in the game or stopping a gang of criminals in the city? There is a REASON there is a chain of command in military organizations and its so the commander isn't sent on every piddly assed little problem the guard should be attending to. Big stuff like the major quests yes, taking care of a smuggling ring in town, No. Building up the keep and dealing with problems there, I say yes. Taking out bandits who are too stupid to realize they shouldn't be attacking you , no. (again I wish I could bring Sgt Kylon from Denerim here)

Well, it's not like there's a lot of quality tail in Awakening. What are your choices? Justice for the ladies, and Velanna... and you know how uptight the Dalish are when it comes to getting busy and freaky.
Justice = rotting corpse and Fade spirit who keeps replying "you are alluding to something, I don't know what"
Velanna = actual quote "Have I told you that I find most humans physically and morally repulsive?"
Sigrun = again actual quote "What's the point? I'm in the Legion of the Dead. Nothing between us will last."
Nathanial = Imported Warden - "You killed my father!", Orlesian Warden - "My father fought a war to drive your countrymen away!"
I am sorry but there are problems with all of them as romances.
actually with nathaniel it could have posibilties as his father killed your family but look how it affected him, theres a connection that could be formed due to how much you actually have in common with him, if you,ve played awakening you will understand what i mean, as i cant explain it without spoilers, but if anyone could be romancible it would be him, as hes the 1 person who's got the most in common with the hfn, and he admitted he was wrong, so your point isnt quite correct, sorry to point that out no offence intended

I liked Awakening overall if you look at it as just a single story in a long book. It just had a lot of failings IMO as well. Not addressing the original decisions made in Origins being a big one (But I can even see that because people would make too many different ones to be able to include them all). But I don't see why you couldn't have gotten a letter from your romanced partner in Origins (At least those of us who made Al king with a romance got to see him). Would it have hurt the development of the game to include some little messenger who comes along at the start saying "I have a message for the warden commander" and then you get Codex A. B. or C. explaining where X was?

Exactly. I don't want to import a stat sheet. I wanted to import my character. The way he/she interacted with her party was 50% of Origins and to completely ignore that is just plain asinine. At the end of Origins, at least 2 characters have expressed major interest in adventuring/staying with me, yet a scant few months later, none of them are anywhere to be seen? Come on Bioware. Even just a couple letters and an expository NPC (eg messenger) would have brought a huge smile to a majority of gamers.

It wouldnt have to have a big impact on the overall endings or game. Flirting is casual and short term but doesnt have to lead to big love and marriage.
But I sure would have loved some flirting!

I don't know why people care so much about romances guess they just want to see some skin so they can fantasise about when they ****** it. A romance doesn't make or break a game nor a story its a tool a writer can use but it is not essential. Stop obsessing over it
OP didn't say ANYthing about sex. They were asking for some kind of acknowledgement/explanation as to why their original romance partner wasn't even MENTIONED no letter no ANYthing except an epilogue card at the end of the game. That IMO doesn't constitute acknowledgement, that seems more like a bone tossed to a mabari to appease it.
It breaks immersion and makes the game feel shallow when things like that get shelved.

Alistair as grey warden (not run away, not dead) should be right there helping the warden as second in command (he IS the senior warden of Ferelden after all ...)
Morrigan is gone and theres no reason for her to be back after a couple of months
Leli and Zevi should have stuck around, maybe arrive later, or at least send letters.
i really liked the e-mail system in ME2, even though some e-mails gave the false impression you'd be able to meet some of those characters again.

How you interacted with your companions was a significant part of Origins.
It'd be like Return of the Jedi substituted brand new characters for the Rebel Alliance. No more Hans Solo, Leia, Luke etc etc. It just doesn't make sense.

Yeah but all those people are Howe's former subjects.
Ew.
I say nuke Amaranthine from orbit. It's the only way to be sure.

Or win them over and have the entire population talking about how much more awesome you are.
Then Bring Howe back to life to show him.
Then kill him again.
