I hate oghren. He was by far the worst companion, if not worst NPC overall in origins. Why put him in awakening.
Not only does oghren promote the delinquency of minors by encouraging the consumption of alcoholic beverages, he is gross and boring and ugly.
Wouldn't everyone have much rather had Dog return? Dog was awesome, and he requires no voicework.
Or, what about sandal or ruck?? Seriously, Sandal companion would have given the awakening team legendary status and lifted the reviews from 8's to the 9's easily.
I am surprised to find out people hate Oghren. I love Oghren. He's my mad dwarven stallion!<3

Oghren is obviously a decisive character which is fine as long as those of us who don’t want him have other choices. I cannot stand him in my party and only used him in DAO when it was forced. I just started Awakening and I'm quite disappointed in the character selection so far and I sure hope there are better ones to come.
You actually don't need him. I take get pleasure in sending him back with the king. Its actually challenging to play in a group of three although it would have been nice had they brought the dog back.

He is a beer drinking, swearing, badass dwarf with a cool beard who just wants to get laid...you have to love him

I hate the fact that he de-evolved in Awakening. Degenerated into that shell that has same hair and beard as him...
Exactly!
They dumbed him down in Awakenings. I actually like him in Origins and was willing to give a try in Awakenings but the writing for him was offensive and over the top.

I wish it was DoG!!! Nuff said really.
I would actually pay for a DLC that would let us use DOG in Awakenings.

Exactly - he wants to fight, shag, and drink. He's completely unreconstructed, totally immune to the moral and quasi-religious flimflam around him and quite frankly a breathe of fresh air.xCirdanx wrote...

Yes - he is a commitment-phobe but that fits with him, ALTHOUGH - still waters (or equivalent, in his case) do run deep and there is more to him than meets the eye.

Sure he's a dead beat dad but if you took on his personal quest he fixed that. Plus its always fun to see misogynist think they have game with the ladies. Its comedic gold!
I do love dog but that would have been such a waste of a character slot. Dog is just a dog. no side quest no gift giving and one sided dialogue. There's already a character like that in awakenings.. adding another would just be over the top.

I think the people whining about him may be missing his entire purpose as a character...
HE'S FUN! Somewhat lewd, occasionally gross fun but FUN nonetheless. Yeah he's misogynistic, but if you listen to his dialogues, the ladies totally kick his drunken ass every time he tries to spar against them!
I think the people who hate him sometimes forget that video games are just what he is; FUN, and an amusing, non serious, totally ridiculous character is exactly what Dragon Age needs to break the doom and gloom end of the world vibe it channels most of the time

Exactly, i too think there is more to him. There are just hints to that, but thats fine with me, i don´t want or need every character to tell me their life story as soon as i meet them or after a few talks, just doesn´t make sense.
But seriously everyone is entitled to their own opinion, love or hate him, both is good it shows that Bioware did a good job in making the NPC´s come alive.

First "promote the delinquency of minors by encouraging the consumption of
alcoholic beverages" is BS.
Last time I check this game is rated "M" no minors should be playing this game. If they are then the parents don't care, and if they come across something they don't like on the game it's their fault.
Second its BS to say that dog has more personality than Oghren. How can people even say that. It doesn't make sense. Dog barks, growls at bad guys and likes to dig. When Liliana is talking to him it seems he likes food (what dog doesn't, really). He also seems to understand Sten's attachment to his sword. Oh and if you want to make him being able to understand better than other dogs humans part of his personality ok, whatever. Other than that he does nothing a normal dog wouldn't do.
He kisses your butt, finds stuff(like 3 items that are of any use at all) and he wines to try to get what he wants. Personlly theirs very little he does that make stop and even look at him other than when Morrigan is talking to him (funny stuff) Other than that he's boring.
I can almost bet money, that many of you yelling "I want dog back" dropped him as soon as you guy got Lilanna or Sten. Many never using him some maybe using him on later runs maybe once. (I know people are going to lie and say they always used him cause "dog is awesome".
Last at the end of the day Oghren is a dwarf. All dwarves are ugly and nasty you show me one clean dwarf I'll show you a midget(human). All dwarves are drunks to some extent not counting the women. I was shocked there was like no dwarves like Oghren to tell the truth. Anywho I'm not going into detail about Oghren because their is 'much'
more to him than dog and if you can't get passed he's a drunk and ugly maybe you should change your outlook on people. One insight is if he is with you when you speak to the Andraste's Guardian.
Looking at Oghren you can't say he's boring or that dog has more personlity than dog, well you can but it doesn't hold water. Can you say he is ugly, short, smelly, and drunkered sure. Can you say dog was a better ally than Oghren I'll have to disagree. My Oghren own regardless what type of warrior I make him if yours sucked you suck, simple. Oh and forgot his funny. Sure not everything is funny but alot of it is. How many people didn't laugh at the shleets really >_>

I dont think dog has more personality than Oghren i just prefer the dogs lack of ridiculous and irrelevant dialogue to oghrens. i just found him to be an annoyance more than anything. i wont deny combat effectiveness of oghren. he is a beast. And yes i didnt use dog as much when i got more party members. I just wish they would have carried dog over to the expansion even if it were just as an NPC hanging out at the keep. To me it didnt make sense for a warden from origins to not have the dog with him after it was made clear that mabari imprint on their masters for life. As i said earlier, the only way (to me at least) it makes sense to not have dog would be the warden from Orlais.
I wasn't pointing you out Amd. Just some stupid things I've seen posted on the subject. If you find Oghren to be a annoyance I could careless, your opinion. I'm not going to lie sometimes he is, but then so are all the characters. Its just happens I find him funny at times and theirs nothing about him that screams for this much hate. Two of the reason people used I pointed out that just don't work for me. They don't hold water. Most of the issues are just racist on all dwarves. I respect your not throwing bull like Dog>Oghren = Personality, in irrational hate.
I a side note, I agree that It's odd of all the characters they could bring back they bring Oghren. I really was like WDF , Wheres Malice D: (my dogs name). Or Liliana my baby. I was hurt. Why I uninstalled dragon age and gave it away. It was the last draw for me, along with other issues I had with this game and the first. Thats another topic tho.
Still like reading Bioware forums. Mainly ME/2
