Looking at Oghren you can't say he's boring or that dog has more personlity than dog, well you can but it doesn't hold water.  Can you say he is ugly, short, smelly, and drunkered sure. Can you say dog was a better ally than Oghren I'll have to disagree. My Oghren own regardless what type of warrior I make him if yours sucked you suck, simple. Oh and forgot his funny. Sure not everything is funny but alot of it is. How many people didn't laugh at the shleets really >_>

I won't argue that most dwarves aren't exactly pretty (Sigrun just needs better facial proportions and such). Brutally honest characters can be quite awesome, but what Oghren does in the Joining really just annoys me. I have taken him to the Guardian once, and I can respect him after that exp, but I just find him shallow in Awk. Its probably shallow of me, but I wouldn't exactly want to get to know a misogynistic drunk to see if maybe he'll change. In real life, I would seriously doubt any change could happen, or stay happened, if you'll forgive the odd wording.

no need for bashing, lets keep it civil. As pointed out earlier, some people find his frat boy act and humor irritating when, ya know, you're working on saving the country, world, etc. I am a serious, pessimistic person by nature, but I can appreciate silliness, humor, and such, don't make me out for a soulless robot or nothing. he can be funny, but in that "god I really want to punch you, you insensitive arse" way.

Wouldn't everyone have much rather had Dog return? Dog was awesome, and he requires no voicework.

Or, what about sandal or ruck?? Seriously, Sandal companion would have given the awakening team legendary status and lifted the reviews from 8's to the 9's easily.

First, I would like to say I've nothing against dwarves instead I loved Sigrun in Awekening and wish my pc could've romanced her (like Nathaniel) because she had such a lovely personality : cute but strong.

I didn't liked at all Oghren in Origin and Awakening mostly because his way of talking and joking are usually digusting. I wasn't laughing at all in Awakening, he was only fun with Zevran in Origin.But I am gald, that I did have some control over his life in Awekening and forced him to be a nice father! I didn't need him to be warrior in the story since he will still be able to fight and that won't change a thing if you make him a nice father or not : he will be always a warrior until the dev decide to change that.

I don't like Oghren. Least interesting characters in DA. His obnoxious drunk routine gets old before he even really gets started. I get that he has "layers" or whatever and is trying to cope with his feelings of loss and inadequacy, but that doesn't mean he's not a) really boring and really obnoxious. I find his conversations with other companions in Awakening particularly annoying, and wish that my character could punch him in the face, just to get him to shut his mouth and get it together.



I guess he was used in Awakening because he was the only character in DA:O that was guaranteed to be alive and with you at the end of the game. This is to bad, as there were some interesting characters in that game, particularly Sten, that I felt were really underused, and wish I could have gotten to know better.

 Dear Maker I hate Oghren. I managed to kill him in Origins(yes you can kill him though it's a bit buggy) and then I see him reappear in Awakening and I'm just like...wtf? Though it was a bit funny cause I was able to choose the dialogue option "Hey aren't you suppose to be dead?" and he talks about how he woke up on the side of the road with all his stuff taken and the back of his head hurting, and then laughing about how I tried to kill him and how hard he is to kill.

I then screamed and went half-insane.

he's a like my cousin's pitbull, i don't like how he looks and how he behaves but it would be cruel to kill him, hopefully he'll just wonder off somewhere one day or maybe someone can adopt him.

anyways, remember before Awakening came out somebody from Bioware said they picked him to reappear in the game because they want to expand on his personality? but did they? nope

Oghren in Origins I liked. He was probably my least favourite, but I liked him. He annoyed the hell out of me with his frat boy, misogyny, but I still like him. I liked that he drank to cover his own inadequacies, because he felt worthless and abandoned and it was the only way he could cope with it. I liked how you could change him. His friendship speech at the Denerim gates is actually one of the only things in the game that makes me shed a tear.

I hated him in Awakening. It was like nothing you did had made *any* difference to him. His humour was even *more* crass and offensive than before. Granted, he was still running away, and that did show at a fair few points, but overall I found his treatment shallow and insensitive. I'd have kinda preferred him to have not been in it at all and just to have stuck with the new characters. At least I managed, barely, to get him to become a semi-decent father in the end...

What's sad is I actually liked him Origins but in my opinion, the writers just destroyed him in Awakenings.

Oghren in Awakenings is like Jack Sparrow in Pirates of the Caribbean two and three. Only Oghren was never fun to begin with.

well..kinda..the whole resetting his approval was stupid...but there was some nice depth to the Felsi thing if you kept him goin and got his approval back up...which turned out nice..plus some of the things about Branka showed he still wasn't over her...but I actually liked him in Awakening as well as Origins..he still has some of the best banter around..especially with Anders

I'm going to agree with pretty much everything people said above. The character isn't the same we all loved or hated in the Origins stories. He evolved into something bitter and weirder. Sure, Oghren is drunk dwarf and does funny things once in a while. But in Awakening, he's just awful. A complete waste of character spot. At least, he's still as fun to play with whenever I need a strong scrapper.

I hate Oghren. Talking to him was a waste of time in Origins and a terrible waste of time and of character slot in Awakening.

Don´t understand how to suffer his babble for more than 2 sentences.
Everytime I clicked on the barrel I hoped it would answer instead of this idiot.

To be honest I don't find Oghren particularly funny in Origins, so I'm not sure how I'll like him in Awakening. Been talking to him a bit more in my current playthrough though hoping he'll grow on me but I'm just not feeling it.



I suppose I'd probably enjoy his character more if I was playing as a more psychotic character.

I'm a HUGE Oghren fan. Guy was hands down my favorite companion.

But the above was such a great post, made me chuckle. Hehehe what a great comparison.
