Video games don't effect kids. If Pacman had effected kids, we'd all be running around darkend rooms, munching magic pills and listening to repetitive techno.

But... Some people do run around dark rooms munching magic pills and listening to repetitive techno...

Glow sticks are typically involved as well...

Im going to agree with some of the other posters here in saying that I liked him in origins but disliked him in awakening.

When I played through origins with my dwarf commoner PC I went to orzammar first and had oghren in my party the rest of the game. I got to 100 approval with him and really liked his char and getting to know him. However, in awakening he lost all his depth.

In origins there was something beneath that boring always-drunk-and-obnoxious personality once you got to know him but I felt like that all disappeared in awakening and he was simply always-drunk-and-obnoxious.

Sad part is that you're stuck using him in the party until you get justice unless your PC happens to be a sword and board warrior.

Not only does it feel incongruent for oghrens character to respec to be a tank (protector if you will) but even if you hate him you have no choice but to keep him in the party. Why couldn't we have had the choice to keep Mhairi and have Oghren die in the joining.

I thought his scene at his joining just too funny...had me in tears.

Yeah that was actually pretty funny.

Oghren + any female in the party is laughs too.   What's not to like?

I always get Justice first and then regulate Oggie to that Keg.

Next time I play, he will be leaving with Alistair.

And while some people may have thought his reaction to the Joining was funny, it should not have been made into a joke.

The only thing I don't like about Oghren is the fact he doesn't hit on the female mainchar...:(

Okay. So you have a problem with characters expressing negatives in fiction. I can get that. But the Joining is an entirely fictional ceremony using entirely fictional materials and liquids.

Well, he is probably the worst choice when it comes to importing old companions into DA - Awakening. Or one of the worst choices (the mabari would arguably be worse but Oghren is REALLY close). I'm not really sure why Bioware chose him.

That being said, Awakening is no masterpiece as it is, to put it mildly, so I wouldn't say that Oghren's presence ruins it. On the contrary, he is in total harmony with the rest of the addon. :D

Oghren has his moments and he's a great fighter. I think people are just tired of that drunk dwarf fighter sterotype that he is. He comes off as trying to hard to be funny with stupid humor.

His conversations with the females of both games can get quite grating, but I think he has brilliant lines with the men and Shale, and Anders specifically.

That's where his personality shines, to be honest.

I had wondered where I had seen this NPC before, and then I remembered your past posts in OT. They should have him guard a pile of dirt at some point to confirm my thesis....

They don't force him on you. If you send him back with Al, he's not with you. Plus, is it really a problem if you never use him?

I didn't let him go through the Joining. I sent him away with Alistair. I didn't like what happened in the Joining either considering what occured. First you giggle then you ACKKK! Was too jarring and turned it into some stupid joke detracting from the drama of the moment. Nor did I take the Dalish **** either. My playthrough I didn't miss either one of them and I did just fine without Oghren, didn't even use him for semi-tankage purposes as my DPS warrior did better in that respect than he did.

That's right, he spoiled the moment and any immersion that may have been there.  Next time he goes back on the first bus to his cave. :)

Unless your PC is a warrior he is kinda forced on you until you get justice. Thats my biggest problem.

Well, if you're an Arcane Warrior you can do just fine without him, I think.

Also, I concur with the opinions above - that Joining scene butchered the immersion mercilessly.

OK so I am going to come to Ohgren's defense a little here!

I don't really get the whole "I hate Oghren" stuff. He's not a favorite of mine at all, but I really wouldn't call him hateable. Pitiable ? Oh yes definitely. I do admit that I think his character was more likable in origins than in awakening, but he really isn't all that bad. The belching is really the only thing about him that annoys me to the point that I wish I had an Oghren mute button.

He serves a purpose though in the game and I believe he serves it well. Being a grey warden ultimately means that you might have to sacrifice your life for the greater good at some point. Let's say hypothetically your in a situation where you have another archdemon on your hands and someone once again is going to have to take the killing blow. Lets say yourself, Alistair, anders and Ohgren are in a group and one of you have to go. Who are you gonna pick ? Just because you can get by without Ohgren for now, doesn't mean that you might not want him around later.

For all you that hate Ohgren and decide to give him the boot early on in the game, than that's your choice. I for one am going to take all the grey wardens that I can get whether or not I totally agree with their lifestyle's. This is a game after all, not a breakfast club.

And furthermore you might hate Ohgren and all his antics, but remember that Ohgren lives in a world entirely different from the real world. Look at all the crap he's gone through. Stuff that no-one could possibly imagine going through. He isn't just another vulgar dead beat dad at the neighborhood bar, hitting on women and drinking all his money away because he's a fat lazy selfish excuse of a person.

Maybe he figures that killing darkspawn and potentially giving his life for the greater good will be the only good thing that he could possibly do for his son. I mean would you want your kids around someone that drinks, kills darkspawn, and hits on women for a living ? Maybe that's Ohgren's way to deal with everything, It's not like they exactly have warrior group therapy in Dragon Age.

So, you know, maybe give Ohgren a chance people! You start this expansion out as the only Grey Warden in Fereldon ( Im not really counting Alistair bc he's either king or MIA ) So I'm thinking you might need all the grey wardens you can find. It's not like Grey Warden is equivelant to the moral highground.
