As for encouraging the delinquency of minors... that's absurd, I can tell you kids don't look to video games to see whats cool, and those that do are not the type of kids to drink underage

Probably my least favorite from both awakenings and origins, but I get why they did it and its fine with me. His party banter with all other companions is amusing.

who cares about minors? game is 18+, so parents should at lease oversee what their kids download/buy,
seriously wore things you can see in TV news

You people getting to emotionally attached to your characters crack me up.
It's.......a.......GAME!!!
Oghren is fine. If you don't like that they chose him as the returning favorite....tough. Deal with it.
Says the kid coming here and complaining about people who are complaining.
And why play a game if not to get involved with the characters? If a game doesn't have me emotionally attached I don't waste my time playing the piece of ****. People who don't play to experience that are generally the prepubescent kids who will greedily lap up any bad, overrated first person shooter that falls into their cheetoh stained fingers.
Oh boy you "older" people sure like to call anyone who doesn't agree with you young......kid......immature yes?
What am I making you see how pathetic you all must be getting so attached to a friggin' game character. They're not real. You're not having a real relationship. Go outside meet REAL people m'kay?
The extent of your wit and intellect know no bounds! Only truly clever masterminds use the 'get a life' comeback on the internet. But in any case, I no doubt have more of a life than you dearie. I have a boyfriend, therefore I'm not trying to have some fake relationship through a game because I'm lonely. It's cute how you see it that way though. I doubt you've even seen a vagina in your lifetime eh? Poor child.
Does this "real" boyfriend of yours suddenly disapper once you turn off your computer?
As for a vagina....who HASN'T seen one in this day and age. I bet yours is all hairly with lips the size of my whole hand.....amiright?
Nah. The only relatioship I pursued in Dragon Age was a lesbian one with Leliana.
I meant seen one in real life kiddo. Not the porn hidden on your computer. And it's 'amirite' not amiright. Fail.

Seriously? Who fking cares about if someone seen vagina or not? In this time of age [2010] girls give left and right, its not like its hard anyway to get any girl to just sleep with her.
Throw that kind of retarded comments out of the window and dont derail topic about OGHREN character design

I could justify every other NPC. Alistair because, guess what? The only other Grey Warden! (and nominally more experienced fighting Darkspawn than you) Morrigan? Maybe not completely trustworthy, but obviously has a vested interest in fighting the Darkspawn and using you to become more powerful, plus extremely knowledgeable about magic and very cunning (and hot!). Sten? Giant, veteran Qunari warrior that has sworn loyalty to you until the Archdemon has been defeated? Check. Wynne? Nearly master level mage that has adventured extensively in the past and is well-learned. Leliana? A little harder of a sell for me, but has uses as a scout and is quite apparently inspired to do good, so not an apparent threat to you unless you're "evil". Shale? A GOLEM, enough said (also funny). Dog? Your own war dog. Zevran? A gamble- seems to really have no reason to return to Crows (provided Crow punishment for failure), and doesn't desire to die (for sure). I almost executed him, but then thought I could make SOME use of him. Couldn't think of any reason to keep Oghren- wish I could have kicked him out so he could have had the good grace to go join the Legion of the Dead or something...

I hate Oghren. Would you REALLY make a drunkard a warden? Or accept someone into your party that quite obviously is mentally unstable? Or at least unable to control his temper, and prone to drinking, which will result in him doing reckless things?

According to that dude who you see Oghren arguing with in the Diamond Quarter, Oghren was one of the best of the Warrior caste prior to his marriage to Branka and her elevation to Paragonhood. So that's something.
I previously have defended Oghren's inclusion in Awakening, on the grounds that he's more than we give him credit for. However, it seems like he's just getting pigeon-holed into the "token funny sleazy guy" role, from what I've seen of him in Awakening. Particularly his banter with Sigrun... ugh. Too much. (Particularly considering that he's married and such.) I was hoping the expansion would "expand" more on a more mature side of Oghren. Alas.

The other issue I have is the lack of romance between you and the new characters. I always wanted a romance between my dwarf and another dwarf, or between my elf and another elf. The team made some cool characters, and yet they are pretty disconnected from the main character. To me it feels a little forced. Just MHO

I've given Oghren a fair chance on several occasions mainly because I felt "sorry" for him, and because he reminds me of me (drinking) when I was much younger. However, he just doesn't cut the mustard as a fighter in any capacity, so now whenever I select my party I leave him him behind to cry in his beer unless I'm going to the city where he has access to the bar.
I always get Nathaniel immediately now and then I head off with him and Anders to get Justice.

Its called Free Speech. You have every right to love Oghren just as it is our right to dislike him.
Sad thing is I did like him....in Origins. Aside from his banter with Anders and such, he's written very badly.

I don't exactly hate him, but I don't really like him in Awakenings either. In Origins once I got him to talk about something other than asschabs or falling over drunk, he turned out to be a decent character and I've started getting him sooner as a result. He has a bit of depth to him once you get him to open up. He wasn't my favorite, but I would take him out of camp on occasion just to see what he had to say about things.
In Awakenings I can't win for losing with him and the way the conversation system is it's practically impossible for me to get on his good side so that I can get his personal quest. Maybe I'd have a different opinion of him if I could, but as it stands I just leave him in camp. There's only so many drunken antics I can handle before I start feeling like a baby sitter, and he's drunk more in Awakenings than he was in Origins. So much for all the progress he had made before.
On a side note it irritates the heck out of me that he went from talking about my character being like family at the end of Origins to getting pissed at every conversation option I choose in Awakening. I mean come on, really? He's talking about rashes and gets mad when I ask what he touched? Since when is teasing off limits with him?
This is the same problem I'm having with Oghren. He absolutely detests my char in Awakenings, and no matter what I do I can't win. A big difference from being like family at the end of Origins.
