Many months have passed since the events of awakening, the arhitect and the mother are dead, slain by Fiona Cousland and the City of amaranthine has burned so that the Vigil might stand. With the Darkspawn dealt with and the blight ended fiona returns to denerim to re-unite with her husband. With all the grim horrors of the last few years over a new golden age is about to begin.

Chapter 1: Homecoming

Summer had returned to ferelden and as the lone traveller made her way to the city people looked up from their work in golden fields to see the passing of this most striking visitor. Riding upon a white steed with her her red hair flowing freely and silver armour glittering in the sun the queen rode to the denerim.

As fiona travelled through the bustling market streets and into the noble districts cheers bagan to fill the afternoon air, fiona had made no attempts to be descreet after months in the north dealing with hateful glares and mistrust she now welcomed the cheers. "all the better to signal alistair" she thought with a grin.

As she came to the Palace gate a guard let out a loud signal "the queen returns!" he yelled his voice echoing across the palace walls, the great iron of the palace gates rose quickly and fiona entered to thundering applause.
Alistair stood at the top of the palace steps, an entourage of retainers and nobles keeping respectful distance, he was grinning from ear to ear.

" So the hero of ferelden returns unscathed, it is a joy to see you safe!" he said happily as fiona leapt from her saddle and ran towards him, their embrace was fierce and elicited further cheers from the crowds gathered around the palace. Fiona found herself on the vege of weeping "its over" she said exhausted " the darkspawn have fled underground then?" alistair asked with a surprised look " they are gone" she replied with a tired smile.
hand in hand the nations rulers entered the palace.

As night approached celebration filled the hall of Calenhad's palace once again, and the descendant of his greatest rival danced hand in hand with his own. "I see you havn't lost your skill at this darling!" alistair said laughing "well the darkspawn make lovely dance partners dear" fiona replied with a wicked grin "hard to imagine you waltzing with hurlocks" said alistair with a chuckle " exactly the same steps as now my love, granted most harvest dances don't involve dodging swords and ogres" alistair laughed loudly at this and pointed his head to the left " speaking of ogres i think Bann lyle has another wife" fiona burst into laughter as they saw the skinny noble waltzing with his rotund bride.

The halls had  only recently been fully repaired, the same could not be said for other parts of the city as the darkspawn ravages had left entire sections of the city burnt and destroyed. In the coming months fiona would once again rule beside her husband and there would be much to do, she wondered if amaranthine would ever forgive or understand her actions on that fateful morning so many months ago, probably not she mused darkly.

As the dancing finished people began seating themselves at the great halls tables " i propose a toast freinds! to my  queen Fiona Cousland the hero of ferelden!" the toast was answered with thunderous applause and the clattering of drinking vessels, fiona smiled and raised her own glass " I propose a toast as well dear husband, to high walls and stout dwarfs" at this the hall erupted in laughter, fiona was home at last and the horrors of the darkspawn could be set aside for a time.

As she watched the assembled court celebrating and toasting she could not help but feel that the wardens had failed to see another side to the joining, granted they would all one day meet their ends in the deep roads, but how much more full and rich were the years they spent alive because of their shared doom "and afterall" fiona thought as the memories filled her mind "i should have died that night in highever" she smiled and joined the tables merriment with renewed vigor.

Chapter 2: Bad dreams

Fiona's nights were rarely a pleasant experience, grey wardens could hear the darkspawn always and fiona had the added burden of her decisions weighing on her conscience.  She found herself staring over the walls of ostagar, the plains below were utterly silent and it seemed she was completley alone.

King cailan appeared behind her, his spectre still wearing the armour of king maric but his eyes were gone and his face wept blood constantly, Fiona screamed and the ground shifted.

She now stood inside burning city of amaranthine "help us!" someone screamed in the distance only to be cut down by a flaming arrow, horror and death filled the streets as the fire spread, she looked up to see a ball of fire descending upon her. she closed her eyes and as it engulfed her the scene shifted once more.

Denerim the day of the battle, fiona looked up to see riordan falling as he paid for his heroism with his life, he crashed into the streets with a sickening sound and fiona suddenly found herself engulfed in darkness. she was swarmed upon by spectres from her past "you left me to die!" duncan groaned through long dead lips, fiona screamed as the horde of angry souls engulfed her.

Fiona awoke with a start "maker these dreams are becoming vivid!" she said staring across at the royal chambers, it was early morning and outside trumpets were blowing. "Milady! hurry we need to be up, the Arl of redcliffe is here to discuss the trade plans you mentioned" her handmaid melissa said hurrying the queen from bed "where is the king?"  fiona asked as she dressed " he is already in the audience hall milady" melissa replied as she braided fiona's hair with rough haste "no rest for the tainted" fiona thought to herself with a smile.
