Before people say I'm a noob for adding skill poitns i've beaten the games 4 times and i want something different for once. So is there any way of adding skill points to my squad members. I've used the save game editor to add points to my own character but it was unable to add points to ym team mates.
Is there any way of adding skill points to my squad members?

You can't.
I wish you could reset them.

The amount of skill points available to your squad members depends on Shepard's level. Just use the savegame editor to set Shepard's Level to 40 (or rather 41, in case you want max skill points for all squadmembers and not just Miri and Jacob).

OK, I haven't done this, but try this.
Once you have your recruits, use a save editor to level Shep to 30 (not with XP though, just change the level). That will give your squad members the points they should have gotten as Shep leveled. Cycle each one through your party spending the squad points as you go. Then use the same save editor to reduce Sheps level to whatever you want. You should then be able to level normally with new squad points showing up as you level.
It's just a theory, but give it a go, and let me know if it works.

The answer without changing your level is to use cheatengine. Goggle it but note that this is much more difficult than using a savegame editor.
Its a byte value so search for the initial number of free points for character X, go into the squad screen, add a skill, press escape back to the main screen (for the program to save your changes), update the changed value in cheatengine, and reduce the list. Do this twice and you get the memory location for that squad member. chnage the value to the one you want.
Do this for each character you want.
The good thing about doing it this way is that you can do the same thing for any game, without depending on a game specific editor

I tried doing what you said and in-game it says i am level 41 but i don't have any extra skillpoints.

I used some editor once to change the number of points they have individually, I forget how though.
Gibbed Save editor can reset their points.

On PC to change the number of talent points your squad members have, google and download gibbed save editor for Mass Effect 2.
Open your savegame.
Click the tab labeled Raw. There'll be a numbered list. Go to 2. Squad, underneath you'll see Henchmen (Collection). Click the ... button. Now, you can edit the number of points they have. Save when done
To reset your squad's talent points
Click the tab labeled Toolbox. Look for Henchmen section. Click refund all talent points.

Is this also true for the original mass effect?
