In my time in mass effect 1 and 2, i have had a smattering of both custom and default "Sheps", i have built shepards who look like a fat mans ass and have built some which im pretty damn proud of, i have also used the default shepard, which fits shepard pretty well.
However i believe that when i make my own personal shepard i feel more involved with the character, i have created his face and looks, and its nice to see something of my own workings its way through, BUT one of the major cons of having a custom shep you can accidenatly make one ugly SOB.
what do you think, which is better, custom shep or default shep?

I prefer the default male Shepard, I am used to that look since ME1 so it is the Shepard for me.
But on the other hand I prefer to create my own female Shep, since I dislike the default version.

Not a fan of the default female, and the default male looks fine except when he smiles it creeps the hell out of me. So custom it is.

Every male Shepard I have ever created is cringe-worthy so I just stick to the default Sheploo face now. I might givE custom another shot when I get back from vacation.
I like to customize female characters, though.

I have a custom Shep that I use rather than the default one. For the most part it's okay, but I can't help but feeling at times that it's just crawled out of the uncanny valley.

I'd imagine that's because the only voice that'd really fit Sheploo is that of a man with a Dutch accent.
Who asks if you've photographed his good side a lot.

Custom female ftw. For male I go with default/custom depending on renagade/paragon and class played.

I made a custom female, but in some lighting, she just looks terrible...

It could go either way for me, since the Default Shepard is so well made. I custom made my personal Shepard, crafting him in my image and name. For me it adds to the overall experience.

I normally customize Femshep, but normally just use the default male as i can never seem to get it to look right.

I used to use default male shep because I just cant not make him one ugly SOB but since the face codes thing I prefer to get other people's creations and tweak them slightly i feel more connected to Shep then. I never played Fem but I'll probably try to customize.

Even though default shep looks like Jack Shepard from Lost (Which is pretty badass in my opnion)

I like custom shepard because then I can make him look like me! 8D

I customise my female Shepard, because I just like customising chars, and also because to me, Shepard just looks a certain way (that also fits in well with the voice, but that is secondary) and the default Shep looks nothing like her (so I have to come as close as I can on my own).

I'm MLG when it comes to customizing the face so I prefer custom Shepard for both male and female,

I've never used a default Shep. Why would anyone? He looks like a giant doofus.

I use default most of the time because male shepards that don't suck are nearly impossible to make. The "Post Your Shepard" threads on these forums have many examples of that, no matter how good looking people think their characters are. Besides that, it's by far the most detailed face, and it's the way Commander Shepard is marketed.
Custom female Shepards are MUCH easier to make, and many people on these forums have posts very attractive female characters that they made.

Ya know who Default Shepard really looks like? Dutch model Mark Vanderloo.

I created a handsome Shepard, and so did my little brother, but I can understand the difficulty. I helped a friend create a Shepard and no matter what we did the character looks like a hefty Asian. Not what we were going for.

I always stick with default because I fail with the creator.

For the life of me I can't create a good looking male Shep, so I typically play default. On the other hand, I have a couple of femSheps I am very proud of.
