I suck with creating (unless a Fem Shep). The options to make a Male Shep are really hard for me. I can't seem to get it right. Bothers me but that's why I'm happy I like the way the default Shep looks like. Especially full Renegade Bwhahahahahah

default shep. I'm far to lazy to go tinkering with options.

I rarely play the default character on any game that calls itself an RPG.

Custom for sure.

I love seeing the Shepard I made in the cut scenes. Bioware is so awesome!

I always go default male Shepard. To me, making a custom male face would be like John Shepard having a different voice actor. Just wouldn't feel right. On the other hand, my Jane Shepard is custom.

I customize my MaleShep. He looks like an older, futuristic me... But with blue eyes. [I has greenish-hazel.]

Custom, always. Although I must say that the male Shepard looks pretty good by default. The female isn't really ugly either, she just looks so much better when you design her yourself. Most of the time, anyway...

my custom shepard ended up as a blobby, bony nightmare, so when i re-designed him for ME2, he conincidentally ended up looking a lot like default shepard- shaved head, stubble, all that. i think frued would have something to say about that.

It certainly makes you feel more accomplished after you spent a couple of hours moving sliders by minuscule amounts to get you custom femshep perfect. To me its the first part of the game and you already been playing for ages before you even gotten to the game!

There is only one Shepard. The default one on the box.

I am not sure if it is only me or not. customzed Shepard seems to gain level up quicker than default. I am in 30 level already before going to suicide mission. of course, it's new created character.

You don't consider Jacob as adding "multi-cultural human diversity"?  There is one black human and one white human.  Shepard's race is up to the player.  I don't see what more you're asking for.

The default shapard looks acutally pretty good. While the the custom shepard gives you the feeling of been unique even tho in many cases it doesn't.

I tend to pick one of the presets and tinker from there...change hair and hair color, maybe skin or complexion, and tweak the features a bit. I'm a bit gunshy of changing the lips too much after having a thin-lipped maleShep in ME1 who had his lips clipping into each other D:

I've never used the default Shepard and I never will. I'm more likely to punch 'that face' than use it. I've never had the problem of creating an 'ugly' Shepard, male or female. Of course, I usually spend quite a bit of time customizing them to perfection...but it's actually kind of fun for me *shrugs*.

Custom for sure. My "Prime" shep look great, fits the voice acting perfectly, and has me become very attached to him. Can't get a good pic of him though. :(

This. This is why custom is necessary.

My maleshep may look boring, but at least he doesn't smile like Pope Benedict.

I always thought the default Male Shep was an extremely attractive man. Until I saw that creepy picture.

That's just one unfortunate picture. Keep in mind that facial animations are the same for all male/female faces, meaning you could catch any male Shepard face in this type of grimace (it would look more or less awful depending on the face, of course).

I've seen only a handful of custom male Shepards that weren't awful, and none that were good. The default one feels legitimate to me. It's just how I envision Shepard. In games like DA:O I see myself as the main character. In ME, I feel like I am only steering Shepard, who is a person of his (or her) own. That's why I never mess with the custom face in ME whereas I always do so in DA:O.

I like making my own. In ME1 I had more than one game where I restarted after landing on EP because Shepard didn't look the way I thought she or he would. I did eventually get the hang of it but there were a couple of so so Shepards that their LI fell for because of their personality, not their looks.

Ugh, the thing that annoys me more than anything else in ME2 is that you have to go through a ridiculously long cutscene before you get to the face editor, and then you have to play through 20m or so of tutorial just to see if the face looks good from all angles and animates well etc. And if you find that the nose shape wasn't right and you want to reduce the cheekbones a little, you have to go through that damn cutscene yet again.

Would've loved to have a DAO style character creator so we can create faces without wasting an hour on bik movies and tutorials.

The custom male Shepard has jacked up teeth though :(

They're all dark grey with some weird spot on the front teeth.
