Just got Justice and his approval from gifts works fine as well! I recommend everyone plays like Fomf75 suggests.

Well finaly tried the game again.
After reading somewhere doing Law and order before recruiting sigrun breaks her personal quest, I tried to avoid doing any quest in Amaranthine before having Sigrun, Vela and Justice in my team. Just recruited Sigrun, so fare everything works fine. Will recruit Vela later when I am home.

hurr the dorf wrote...
oh I forgot to mention, when using zz_gxa_addapproval X Y add the - simbol in front of the Y value, which is the approval value.
You have to select the character while you are entering the code
ex: runscript zz_gxa_addapproval 3 -20
and voila! 20 minus approval and you still have 80 approval, quickly give that character a gift. You will get all those plot skills you missed.
I just found out so I do not know whether this works perfectly.
I did some testing with this, and it works, but not exactly the way you explained. I had this with Justice by the way.
I followed those instructions and it gave me a notification that I received the skills, but they didn't actually work. It turns out the bug makes it so he gets the +100 regardless of whether the approval change is positive or negative: When I first got the bug, I loaded a previous save where I hadn't changed his approval at all, and even substracting approval with the console command still triggered the +100.
The workaround that seems to work is to trigger the bug (preferably by using the console command so you don't lose any opportunities to increase/decrease later), which will make his approval shoot up to 100 (and the skills not work), and immediately after use the console command to substract 100 (I used runscript zz_gxa_addapproval 3 -100 ... I have no clue what the 3 stands for still) so that you end up at 0 once again and pretend the bug never happened.
After that, the skill gain from approval should work normally.
Not sure if the skill gain would work if you reset to 0 and then go back up to 100 by using the console command.
In short:
1. Get the +100 on a character (if you know that the bug will happen, you can do this at anytime using runscript zz_gxa_addapproval 3 xx -the xx can be anything, doesn't make a difference).
2. Select that character and use the command runscript zz_gxa_addapproval 3 -100 to go back to neutral
3. Gift normally.
Tada!
Hopefully this works for more people.

Just a question, i have stopped playing dragon age awakening because of that annoying bug, any idea if bioware is working on that?
I have tried Mconstril's solution, and thanks for the suggestions Mconstril, but it doesn't seem to work for me, my npcs (sigrun, justice and vallenia) get back to +100 if i present them a gift, so i kind of wanted to continue playing since i have the game lying here for more than a month now and still nothing that kills this stupid bug :/

I don't actually understand why a new DLC is being released and yet the game still hasn't been patched. I'm sorry, but as much as I love you Bioware I can't help but feel incredibly disappointed.

Patches cost significant money in the short term, and most of the people they make "more happy" have already bought the game...which means that the only way a patch is "cost effective" is in its impact on company reputation and future sales of other games. And that's a long term view.
DLC, particularly non-voiced DLC that uses existing areas and just slightly re-jiggers game mechanics...that's a low-cost high-reward proposition.

Bump.
I've just finished Awakening, and got bugged like... a children hell or something. I've tried the console command, but for some reason it only get my companions to +100 warm. Although most of them got good endings, Sigrun and Justice got the "normal" ends.
I may need to do another run with fomf75's method, thank god the game is short... kinda.

Quick update:
It seems that you can get the approval rating to "love" by insulting or using console. However, even all characters appeared as +100Love, Sigrun and Justice still got the normal ending instead. And I did Justice's quest...
So if those characters are bugged to begin with, no matter how you played with the approval ratings, they may still get the normal ending.

Finished a re-run of awakening with the best scenario endings using Fomf75's strategy.
There are several things to note:
1. Beware of Sigrun's recruitment quest in Kal Hirol and the Vigil's Keep's basement.
a. Either releasing or killing Keenan (or something or that) in Kal Hirol will trigger the approval bug if the companions are not yet in your party. The safest bet is to "leave him to rot."
b. Same thing for the prisoners' in the basement (next to the room where you find the Howe's Bow). The safest thing to do is to ignore them or leave them to rot.
2. It's okay to start all the side quests (besides the orphan's ones) in order to save time for another run. Starting those quest will not trigger any bugs (except for SIgrun's, see below). All quests in Vigil's Keep do NOT trigger approval bug. So upgrade the keep to your heart's contend.
3. Sigrun bug can be avoided by not starting the Law and Order quest, or installing this patch:
http://social.biowar...omments#details
4. It's best to do Dark Wolf's quest (and finish the fight in the Farm) before your talk to Seneschal Varel, which will start One Day in Court before you have taken care of the conspiracy. This does not affect the approval bug, however.
5. Since you need to finish the joining rituals, and Justice doesn't need one, It's best to recruit Justice last. Recruiting the last member into your team will force the game to skip the ritual whenever you talk to Varel.
That should be all the key points to cover... Feel free to add/correct anything you see fit. Good luck!

I didn't get this bug with Velanna, but then I recruited Justice... I was like "hey, finally a 'good' character! He's so gonna be in my team!"
+100 approval (neutral)
:/ gee, thanks. One character I actually like, and it's bugged. Same with Sigrun.
I did the orphans and lots of other side quests, and it seems that's the problem. I'll try to do things differently in my next walkthrough, but this one is being a pain. Bugs, glitches (Anders was stuck in "running" stance for a long time until I finally "fixed" him) and annoying things that happen (like not being able to talk with the companions when I want to is one of them) is making Awakening be a torture to play. I love the game, though.
Being a Cousland, I don't feel like having Nathaniel in my team. Anders reminds me too much of Alistair and I don't agree with him most of the time, which makes me wary of talking with him. Velanna, I don't agree with her either, so I take Anders as mage to replace Wynne. I just needed some 'good karma' characters, a rogue as Leliana and someone to replace my Alistair... and then Sigrun and Justice are bugged... I'm one one step to just leave everyone at the Vigil's Keep and go around the world by myself, even if I get killed :E

Just a quick bump, I found this while looking for a fix for the Oghren approval bug. The "3" spot in the command runscript zz_gxa_addapproval 3 XX stands for which character's stat you are changing, the XX stands for the amount.
In this case 3 is Justice (I'm guessing, I haven't recruited him yet). I can confirm that 2 is Oghren =), however.

I know this is an old thread but it is on topic of my questions.
I've noticed there are several different approval bugs in Awakenings. I never got the bug that sets their approval to neutral and 100 but I did get one that causes their meter to rise normally but despite doing the companion quests and getting the appropriate dialogue at each level, it doesn't raise their level above warm when it should. Justice is in the 90s and is still warm. Similarly I wasn't able to get Nathaniel above warm when he was in the late 70s or the 80s.
Recently though I did notice somehow I managed to get Nathaniel to friendly. During his "Friendly" dialogue scene, where he says he owes you an apology. After doing several experiments I realized the only difference it seems to make is which of the dialogue choices I picked. Sometimes I'd get an approval increase but he'd stay at warm, sometimes it would be at friendly.
Bizarrely enough at one point I got his approval down lower than what friendly should be, and he still was friendly. Unless I raised it or lowered it, then it dropped down to warm and I couldn't get it back into friendly with many gifts.
Is this one of the glitches that still doesn't have a fix or a work around? I haven't noticed it as much as the other ones.

Apologies for resurrecting a 6 month old topic.
I also had the instant +100 approval bug with Justice. Reading some suggestions here on the forum, I combined several of them into a combination that - at least for me personally - got Justice from +100 without buffs to +100 with buffs.
1) select Justice
2) use console command runscript zz_gxa_addapproval 1 -80
This will decrease approval to 20.
3) Give him a gift - this will push his approval to 25%, giving you the minor buff.
Now at this point, only a couple of gifts remained for me, so it was impossible to get 100 appr.
Running the script with +80 again only toppled the buffs while not increasing anything.
4) use console command runscript zz_gxa_addapproval 1 +Y
*The 1 is needed since it symbolises Constitution, as previously mentioned here. Typing 3 instead of 1 for example will get Justice the rather amusing 'Minor magic' buff and so on while doing nothing.
* The number of Y is the number needed to just reach 49 approval - depending on the gift you just gave
* Give a second gift - pushing his approval beyond 50 and resulting in another buff.
* Use the console to up his approval to 74 - give another gift and so on till all buffs are in place.
Verified in the character window - the constitution stat increased after each buff was triggered.
Do note that the first command will decrease constitution with 2, resulting in a massive Constitution buff of +4 instead of +6.
Edit: tried replacing the first command with runscript zz_gxa_addapproval 3 -80 ; not resulting in the -2 Constitution at the beginning and the same Constitution in the end. However, the Massive Constitution Buff was not shown as an in-game alert.
If I made any errors/flaws/... - just let me know.

Who do you get negative approval with for saving Stefan?
Also, on the wikia it says
"Justice disapproves (-10) of Velanna escaping justice by joining the Grey Wardens."
Does this mean if I recruit Velenna into the Grey Wardens before Justice is in my party I'll get the Justice bug, or what? How does this work? Is it just side-quests or is it ANY negative approval for them at all?
