Aliens VS Predator was one of the worst movies I have ever seen. I don't think I can give this franchise another chance after that atrocity.

Whatever people's opinions are of the AvP series the bottom line is they grossed a ton of money.  Go figure.Posted Image
I don't take the movies all that serious.  I think it's a fair statement to know what your getting when you buy a ticket or rent the movie.  A sci-fi/action popcorn flick.  Good way to waste two hours.  Let's face it the formula is fairly simple.  Predators hunt and kill things in gruesome ways while the Aliens try to mulitply their numbers.  Humans, unfortunately, get stuck in the middle.

Way oversimplified. This is the reason why modern hollywood movies tend to suck. Honestly, watch Predator 2 and compare it to, for example, AvsP. Even though Predator2 was considered failure back then, it is so much better quality film than AvsP. Compare the story, the character, the suspense and climax. AvsP has none of those. Pred2, despite its flaws, was still a serious movie instead of mindless popcorn entertaiment with idiotic storyline, 2D characters and watered down John Woo BS action that AvsP is. IMHO latter was an insult to both franchises.

I recall reading in another thread you said you enjoyed Batman Begins and The Dark Knight, one of the only comic book movies you enjoyed, correct?  Check out the Batman Forever and Batman And Robin in comparison, sometimes reboots aren't all bad.

As far as I know though, this new movie is a sequel, not a reboot.  If the movie is made with the acknowledgement that that horrid piece of pig **** AVP actually exists, I think it would ruin it for me.
I would be fine with a Predator reboot.  Hell, I would be even happier with an Alien reboot.

Actually, That guy that did Aliens was thinking about an Alien 5.  What was the name, Cameron?  There is an article floating around about Cameron's thoughts on making another Alien movie and the AvP series.  It's a good read.

Indeed. And see how big the drop in numbers Requiem was compared to AvsP? Both theatherical and DVD sales? Still AvsPR sold millions, but clearly some were quite dissapointed after AvsP. 50million wordwide gross drop is not something to sneeze at.

I think so long as he actually invests time into writing a good plot
with good characters and doesn't try to sell the movie on some cheap
gimmick like 3d, it will have potential.  James Cameron directed Aliens
afterall and that one was awesome.  First R rated movie I saw in the
theatre.

I agree about Requiem.  I rented the movie for a dollar when I rented the SEGA game Avp.  It was a fun night but Requiem was lacking.  I mean, the movie started off pretty cool and had some good lore but that last half hour was pretty bad.  Some parts were cool but man what a bad ending.  What was the deal with that strange woman with the predator's gun at the end?

Although, it was mildly amusing when the predator/alien went into the maturnity ward.  While on the subject of Avp did anyone read the comic books?  If so, were they any good?

*Or, is that gun something that leads to the technology that allows that corporation to grow.  Then(in the original alien) they find that ship on the planet that makes sense to be a Predator ship that was transporting Alien eggs or a queen.

I have heard Ridley Scott (the guy who made the first Alien) wants to do a Alien prequel and that it is in the works. Cant wait!

I hope this stays on track and not end up at the bottom of the interwebs as another failed project.  Keeps fingers crossed and waits for an official trailer, whenever that would be.  The sight predicted a 2011 time frame.

I hope Cameron never touches another pre-existing franchise.  Although I like Aliens, it was far inferior to the original by Scott.  Avatar was an example of the direction I DON'T want movies to go in; shallow, predictable and devoid of intelligent structure.  Hopefully it takes Cameron another 10 years to make a movie because in all honesty, besides the Terminators, the movies he's directed have been mediocre at best.

The Abyss, True Lies, Titanic and Avatar, all of them were less than amazing imo.  I hope Scott is the one that is given the chance to direct another Aliens movie.

Back to Predators, I'm really hoping as others have said, that this isn't just another full blown action flick like the AVP's and it goes back to the roots of the original, i.e. Atmosphere, paranoia and a feeling of helplessness. Really the pacing and general feel of the movie is what made Predator and Alien so good so if this is just gonna be a frag fest I agree with others, this will suck just as bad as the AvP films.

Really the cast is all that's giving me hope as I would assume that Brody and Fishburne wouldn't jump into a script as bad as the AvP scripts were, here's praying they have some integrity...
