Alister granted the templar class to all fighers and the dialog choice is no longer there. However, it is not available to the fighters in the party. Something else curious has happened in this play through (the first one I've done since the 1.3 patch). Wynne's Vessle of Spirit became available before the plot trigger and the Champion class became available to use before finishing the Red Cliff quest. No books for classes were purchased.

Ah, disregard this whole mess. I knew I overlooked something silly. I wasn't high enough level to have 2 prestige classes. However, that still doesn't solve the case where Champion was available early as well as Vessle of Spirit..
