I first got teh idea from a couple posts around here. But The only thing that stops most rogues from wearing heavier armors and wielding two hander is str score and lack of attack skills.

Im thinking you can actualy build a very viable two hand rogue.
Pick up all the rogue class talents.
Pretty much ignore ranged and duel wield till you have too.

Invest most of your points into Str, wear a heavier armor and use a two hand weapon.
Spec your class as Dueliest/Ranger and pick up all the abilitys in those trees and you have a viable character.
In Awkenings this can get even better as both Shadow and Legion Scout synergise really well.

Im trying to think of rather viable attribute spreads since in Origens realisticaly
You only need 42 Str for gear, 32 dex for talents, and 30 cunning for talents and with lvl 4 lockpick can open any chest in the game. But in Awkening you will need 52 Dex eventualy for the higher grade rogue abilitys.
You dont use much abilitys so you can have more sustained since you are gonna be auto attacking mostly.
Definetly grab poison when possible to add damage.

Tell me what you think. Im gonna go make the Origens character soon as im done eating and watching family guy.

In awakening, there is actually a str/dex rogue with the legionnary scout spec, and it's actually pretty much a barbarian build.

In awakening I would go with something like :

Legionnary scout/duelist (and maybe ranger)

Full rogue talents (aside from stealth), Vitality/Clarity/Survival (and maybe 1 pt in traps touse them) and full spec talents (legionnary scout can pretty much save you life most of the time).

With a 2H hammer or axe, skills like heartseeker or flicker can do a lot of damage with proper +x% crit/backstab dmg gear and the pinpoint striking buff owns...

interesting idea

but in awakening, sigrun is already such character. if you want, you can check on her.

rogue - bard/legion scout/duelist

duelist for roleplay, shadow for practicality (real barbarians dont hide in shadow, it contradict their philosophy of raging)

bard for self boost, or choose ranger pet and summon wolf for roleplay for realism.

for game mechanic, max coercion, stealing (broken in DAA), vitality, clarity, rune craft and survival. (not sure if enough point.lazy to check)

stats wise a bit tricky. probably dex build, str enough to wear armor, 50 cunning maybe?

40 constitution and 40 willpower? (total in DAA level 35 is about near 400 points when respec for redistribution)

the thing is if choosing poison, trap skill, it's just like playing a rogue swinging with stupid clubs.

i would suggest not picking up those 2. wear hi'rol's set or sentinels set

in my game, sigrun has like 85% fire resist, 75% resist for others, 42 armor, 90/130 mental/physical resistance etc. other than holding aggro hate, she can charge into any groups of mob and fight mindlessly like a warrior.

hope this helps.

Nice Troll, go back under your bridge.

@sajahVarel and Novadove
Thank you for your imput.
Ive actualy tested this out on Nathaniel and it works pretty good. Im finding the combo  Ranger/Legion Scout/Shadow works best though. Dueliest is nice but it really relies off its one buff at the end. I find a good two handed weapon with 3 slots for Intensity runes works great along with a 3 slot armor you can put the -5% fatigue runes into.
Also from previus research it seems with lockpick 4 and Coercion 4 you dont need cunning to be higher then 30 to pass all checks.
Its gotta be hard to get that level 35 though.  I went into Awkening at lvl 23 and I beat it at around lvl 32.

Beginning of Origins or Awakening?

It just sounds a bit boring to me without having the archer or dual weilding abilities. I would be keen to play it with a mod that gives rogues 2 handed weapon skills though.

No reasons you couldn't make such a character work.

I've made a Rogue without any point spent on combat talents, I focused on the Duelist and Assassin lines instead it worked pretty well (dagger and shield).

Well your kinda forced to take talents in like archer or duel wield, im taking a few points in the first tree of duel wield. Its suprisingly working well and doing tons of damage.

No, you're not. ;)

I've actually played a Rogue throughout Origins saving points to spend them at the start of Awakening so I'm not making this up.

Console tends to not let you properly level up unless you select something.

Im still surprised with this build and it works even better with Haste or Double Haste. Unfortunetly beancounter501 and I discovered that using a single weapon or a weapon and shield does fairly close damage faster due to how the combat mechanics work for calculating damage(You actualy get a big debuff when you equip a weapon in offhand)

So this works with a single weapon character and a sword and shield rogue fine too, and because you dont waste any points in weapon skills mostly, it allows for you to just simply switch out gear on teh fly. Im using Starfang as Weapon Set 1 now and Veshialle+Champions shield as set 2.

One reason I avoided Haste with my 2H Warrior was the penalty to attack. Is this not even worse when stacked and placed on a Rogue? Maybe Momentum would help instead, or the runes by the same name?

True haste has a attack penalty of 5.0 but I always thought backstab was a 100% hit 100% critical damage attack? or at least gained a decent boost to hit. While yes momentum speed up attack speed by 5% more it still has the problem of using duel wielded weapons and the point of this build is to abuse the mechanics so that your using .5 to .75 of your str score instead of .25 from duel wield. Witha  single weapon or weapon and shield you actualy have a higher score from your str contributing to damage and since a backstab only takes your main hand damage into account you can really maximise dps, particulary if your using Veshialle.

I used Starfang only in my first Rogue run, and did fine, so I agree with the conclusions. But I am still wary of being reliant on Haste; once on that path it is difficult to alter the tactical course.

Its not nessary but it certainly can help.   Swords like Starfang do good damage intialy but later on Axes do more due to the fact they factor in 25% more damage from your Str score and Veshialle in particular has the added bonuses to backstab damage too along with being the highest damage axe in game. Biteback axe would work too but thats from Arl Howe later on.  Its very much a late game thing as the magic number Ive seen is 60 Str is where Axe and Two hand weapons really start to shine.
