Like it said eveyr time I go into the praetorian fight at Horizon my entire game crashes. I can go back into WIndows 7 easily enough and shut the game down but it seems to crash at this exact spot every time. I can't even get halfway through the fight before the game locks up and i see nothing but a black screen with a message telling me that there was an error. Naturally when I tell it to find the solution it never tells me what exactly crashed, only that a report was sent. For me the game is unplayable if I can't get past this point.

Here's the system specs

Operating System: WIndows 7 Home Premium 64-bit
System Manufacturer: Del inc
System Model: Inspiron 537
Processor: Intel Celeron CUP 450 2.2 GHz (single core)
Memory: 4GB
Video: nVidia GeForce 9400 GT

There is not enough information to really tell you anything other than the blatantly obvious that you have a problem somewhere in your system that is causing an issue.

Update everything that might cause this problem.

Some of the usual suspects are in no particular order:

1. Windows updates

2. DirectX

3. Visual C++ runtime

4. Intel Chipset drivers

5. nVidia drivers

6. Audio drivers

7. Re-install ME2

8. Install ME2 patch

9. Conflict with Anti-Virus software

10. Conflict with something else

I have made sure everything was up to date. Even the bios. Nothing changed. Managed to finally get past that fight though but I had to defeat it extremely quick. Then when i came across it a second time on the collector ship I ran into the exact same problem. If i didn't defeat it quickly the game locks up and refuses to go further. I have to shut it down with windows task manager. This is a pretty annoying bug. I've also tried reinstalling it and it's also updated with the patch. All other programs i made sure were closed. I also deactivated my Anti-virus just to be sure and the problem still persists. If I don't defeat the Praetorian very quickly the game locks up and I'm staring at a black screen. I would say it's a conflict in programs but it only happens when I'm up against the Praetorian, and by now I've repeated this glitch several hundred times. It's annoying.

This is one of the GREAT LIES I have been told over and over in my career in computer support.  "yes everything is up to date."  OR  "We haven't changed anything in months."

nVidia released a new GeForce video driver, 197.13 on March 17, 2010.  Did you even know this existed?  Much less installed it?  You may trust the Dell support web site to NOT be up to date on 3rd party audio and video drivers.

If you are ABSOLUTELY certain that "everything" is up to date, then there is nothing that can be done to help you at this time.  Since your computer is "perfect" all you can do is pray to the computer gods/daemons that Bioware accidently patches your problem sometime in the indeterminant future.

You call someone asking for help a liar? That the best you can do? You even have a "career in support"?

Asalis: your PC is very low performance on the main parts (Celeron single core CPU is below the minimum requirements, 9400GT GPU is the lowest in the minimum requirements list), best you can do after making sure all drivers are up to date is lowering the ingame graphics settings.and hope you'll get through.

And what does calling me a liar get you exactly? I know my computer specs are out of date and I have done what i could to fix the problem. The graphics are even at their lowest settings. I just posted this here to bring it to Bioware's attention, nothing more. I know this probably wont get patched and i'm currently saving up for a better computer. I also posted this to see if anyone else was having this same problem. I found a way around it but i have to work quickly to do it. It's annoying yes but it's not stopping me from playing the game. and i updated the nvidia drivers last friday when this glitch first appeared. seriously, thats the best response you could come up with?

have this same problem. its nothing to do with computer speed, as i have around the same specs you do on an asus laptop. it has something to do with single core machines running a texture on the praetorians glowing eyes. it will crash if the praetorian gets too close to you, or ifyou look it directly in the eyes. to pass through this fight, you will hae to fight it at a good range and wothout directly loking at it. killing it without looking at it is hard as all hell, but it is easier if you use a heavy weapon. it took me like two tries with the grenade launchers. this also happens at the reaper core. but thats just something i did that worked, i cant tell you for sure it will work on your system. i dont think its anything computer speed wise, ad i can run the game with almost no lag at all.

this is something that happens to a lot of computers. i have talked to people that have some really fast computers and theyve run into this issue, its a bug in the game, and hopefully bioware will take this issue into attention.

I can confirm this that fights with praetorians sometimes lead to crashes, although it has only happened to me twice, and both occasions were on the Collector Ship.

Though I find two times in about ten to twelve playthroughs (what, I played through ME1 far more often) a minor Issue... okay, some people get this more often, and it is understandably a major issue then.

My specs for comparison (completely self-built, working with computers for almost 16 years)

AMD Phenom X4 9550 (4x2.2 GHz)

4GB Kingston DDR2-RAM (1066 Mhz)

ATI RadeonHD 4850 GPU (512 MB GDDR3-RAM)

I think the blue lightning special effect causes crashes. The praetorian has it and there are other objects later in the game that have the same effect. I can't remember the exact solution right no, but I'll look for it.

Edit: Maybe you can find a solution here. Beware of minor spoilers. Avoid them by skipping the first box in the comment: social.bioware.com/forum/1/topic/106/index/1605123

It seems this only happens with entry level cards like the 8500 GT, 9400 GT and 8400 GS. I'm surprised the latter even allowed the player to reach the praetorian.

The blue lighting bug/errors is not related to single core users, its entirely a conflict between the game and nVidia. It probably has something to do with game optimization and/or using incorrect shaders.

If I remember correctly, ATI does the graphics for the 360, while nVidia did the graphics for the first Xbox. This would sort of explain why ATI seems to have less issues with this game.
