Bug with "The Final Onslaught" (potential spoiler content - beware)

At least I think it's a bug.

On "The Final Onslaught", finished off all of the trivial darkspawn that crowd the area upon arriving in "Denerim - City Gates".  Most of my companions are hanging out under some stonework in the middle of the map, one is off with some guards, standing by herself, and I have no apparent way to progress.

I've spoken with each character, including the "Soldier"s and "Riordan", but there is no "Okay, let's go kick ass" trigger.  There are two indicators on the map, a zone change icon on a gate on the west side of the map (named "The City") which gives me an error message "Cannot use object", and an "x"... which usually indicates an item of interest... at a broken gate on the east side of the map (named "Shattered Gates".  When I go to the "x" nothing happens, even if I just stand there and wait for a considerable time.

I have searched the entire zone and have found no other objects or portals to interact with, nothing to loot, and no mobs have spawned for about an hour now.  I've checked my inventory, and exhausted all dialog possibilities/iterations that I can come up with, yet still nothing.  I assume that zone change labeled "The City" is my destination, and it's glitched.

If anyone has finished the game, or if anyone from BioWare could confirm/deny that something isn't working I would appreciate it.  

I think I'll go back to a previous save and see if I can get a better result.  Failing that, I will just start the game again and play through with another character while waiting for a response (I hope) here.

Sorry if I'm just being a bozo and missing something, but I don't think I am.

Yep, it was a bug... my second play-through (took a while)... fixed it. So, if you have this problem, you will likely be able to fix it by going back to a previous save and trying again.



Hopefully BioWare can put this in the work queue and fix it in a future patch.

This didn't happen to me but I'm guessing a darkspawn was, well, spawned at a bad location outside of the walk mesh in the area. This leads to it being "stuck"; which often happens when you're spawning massive amounts of mobs into an area. Since you technically didn't clear the gate area, your story doesn't progress.



Oh, and yes, reloading would fix the problem because everything would have to respawn again...hopefully this time they all make it into the actual playing area.
