I have a character from me1, which is the "canon shep" as far as i'm concerned, but because theres no face codes, i'm finding it very difficult to recreate the face for other mass effect 2 playthroughs...
why no face codes?

Yeah, it is kind of a bummer but I understand that they probably couldn't match the character creator from ME1 in ME2. Anyway, I wish we could get our ME1 import coded too, because I just wanted to make some small tweaks to my ME1 Shep, but keep her mostly the same. Instead I have to pretty much rebuild her from scratch and try to match it up.

Makes me sad also. I just wanted some minor nose adjustments...

I hate that too. I tried to recreate my Shep, but couldn't ever get it right. I just loaded up a save game/character build onto a disc and stored it for safe keeping.

I also don't like that you lose your facial scars, since one of my ME1 characters had a very prevalent scar. I guess the explanation is that they're removed during the Lazarus Project.

Is the face-code still present when viewed with the Save Game Editor?

What, exactly, is your problem? Why can't you just re import the ME1 shep file?

i have, but its just the same pre-story every time...though it doesnt make too much difference, it would be nice to see how the other pre-stories play out in me2

Download gibbeds save editor (http://mod.gib.me/ma...eedit_rev25.zip). Once you have created an ME2 save file using your imported ME1 shep, open the file using this program and it lets you change your history. Wallah. These are instructions on how to use it. http://www.masseffec...torial=saveEdit

edit: tried to hyperlink them, forgot this forum fowns on that

It would have been nice to just choose a different hairstyle/facial hair.

Oh what have I done to myself?

As I recanll, for the 360 version...

#1:  Load the save with the character you want.
#2:  Go to customize appearance.
#3:  Don't change anything just go straight to the bottom option which will say code.
#4:  Click on it.  There's your code for the character so you can recreate it and tweak it however you please.

That doesn't work.  If you'd actually tried your plan you'd realize that it doesn't work.  Hence the complaint and the condolences from other players.

One way is to write down the exact slider position in ME1, then recreate it in ME2. If you are making a brand new character.

However, since you can't look at the sliders after your character is already created - if you have an ongoing character already, the only way is to check back and forth in the ME2 face screen between your custom face and your default face, and recreate it slider by slider.

I checked earlier with the game editor.

ME2 applies a special tag to declare an ME1 import as a "Morph Head", which basically over-rides the face-generation mechanism of ME2, and sets about defining the face by polygon vertices directly. Technically it'd be possible to make Shep look like almost anything with this mechanism. I'm guessing that ME2 has an ME1 face converter, and maps into into the ME2 morph head thing.

ie. No face codes for ME1 imports.

Edit:  I guess you could attempt to copy over all the Face Morph stuff the ME2 file with the ME1 import with the save editor, but it'd just simply be faster to edit a final ME2 save gave with a new ME1 history with the editor, and start up a new character with that save.

Ahh, in that case you are screwed, I'm sorry.
The only way would be to replay ME1 with your custom shep for each history you want, which is good if you want to play ME1, bad if you want to play ME2.
Bear in mind that your history has virtually no effect on the story in ME2 at all, the only difference being a news announcement or two and maybe an email. Your history in this game is more of a personal RP option than it was in the original, exclusively so in this version actually. There could be results in ME3, but that's awhile off yet.

To the others talking about face codes and sliders and such, there is no consistency between the face generator in ME1 to ME2. A face code could not be used because the generators use different resources, simlarly what you get from putting a specific slider in one place in ME1 does not match putting the same slider in the same place in ME2.
