A few weeks back, I read somewhere that a Mass Effect game was in the works for next year, but it wouldn't be Mass Effect 3. So, this got me thinking. What in Mass Effect 2 could warrant an expansion pack? After playing through the game a few times, the idea finally hit me. The Quarians and the Geth.

It's a big enough issue to warrant an expansion, but not really a main part of the Reaper storyline. Assuming that Tali survived the Suicide mission on your playthrough, this would open up the entire Floatilla to you and your crew. If the war that the Admirals in Mass Effect 2 were talking about comes to fruition, taking back the home world for the Quarians could be a game in itself.

I have the impression that Bioware stated that there will be DLC that bridges ME2 to ME3. Whether that is Geth/Quarian related DLC, I don't know.

Too situational.

But I love the idea of being able to go back to the Flotilla.

I wish it stayed open rather than closed, but there really wasn't much to do there after Tali's loyalty mission.

I don't really care as long as it's post-game content that's actually connected to the main game in even the smallest of ways. No naked Shepard!

It's Liara and the Shadow Broker. Liara is alive in everyone's game, Tali isn't. The Quarians and the Geth will be apart of ME3, Shepard needs them to help fight the Reapers.

Taking down the Shadow Broker isn't really part of the main storyline. But they have already said something is coming after the comics are done.

I know that there was some leaked audio of Liara and Shepard speaking of the Shadow Broker, so that is definately in the works. What I'm talking about is a true expansion, like Dragon Age just got.

I know, I don't think taking down the Shadow Broker will be a two mission one hour DLC though. It feels more like a major quest line to me, and they could also add in something with the Alliance for Ashley/Kaidan. They need to tie in ME1 and ME2 better, so they the old squadmates can return in ME3. They also need to fix the broken romances! The faithful are lonely.

It wouldn't work because I told them not to go to war. It would only work if I could help the Geth instead of the Quarians...maybe have to defend the homeworld from the Quarians taking over, that would be interesting. I don't support the Quarian cause, so a game where I fix their mistakes wouldn't be super interesting, especially since I think they deserved what they got...

Why would the Geth need to defend the homeworld from the Quarians, when the Geth don't live on the homeworld?

That's true. My ME1 Shepard is missing Liara pretty bad, poor guy. But an entire expansion disc would add content that could tie in all the loose ends. I would like to see Wrex rallying the Krogan to help Shepard, that would be cool.

If Mass Effects expansion has the same quality of Awakening I will be very disappointed. :(

Makes sense. It does seem more likely. But if they do go into Reaper content, I want it to be diplomatic. Little to no fighting. I want to talk to officials and negotiate with paragon/renegade. There are plenty of factions willing to help. If Wrex is alive, Clan Urdnot. If Tali is alive, and you convince the Admiralty Board to not go to war, the Migrant Fleet. Perhaps a side quest for Aria T'loak to gain some of her men. If you kept the Council alive, the Alliance, once they get off their asses. Legion's Geth, even might help in the fight, if they can reach consensus.

Well the Geth don't want them on it for some reason, so helping it stay that way...

Maybe it has something to do with the Dark Matter that we learned about during Tali's trial.

Perhaps you need to speak to legion more then, cause the geth would be in favor of peaceful co-exsistance. Only thing standing in the way really has been the Quarian stance of attacking whenever they felt they had an advantage in the past, something I think Shepard might be in position to help overcome.

You're basically describing what I think will comprise the first 10 or so hours of gameplay for ME3. Like collecting the treaties in DA:O, Shepard runs around collecting an army. If there is an expansion, it will likely have something to do with your squadmates. Either settling old ties (Liara, Ashley/Kaiden) or progressing some of the new ones. BioWare has always been big on the squad mentality. Loyalty and whatnot.

If theres a diplomacy element to the story in ME3, it's gonna be in this expansion pack. Bioware didn't go to the effort of making Mass Effect more of a shooter to spend the first half of their final game doing no fighting.

I just see it happening in ME 3 this would not make for a good expansion. It would make better for the actual game. Plus its part of the main story. This isn't a side quest because shepard needs the migrant fleet in his war against the reapers. If you want an expansion pack for ME 2 check out my thread we have been discussing if they are even going to make an expansion pack for ME 2. Like DA:O awakening.
