Dragon Age Origins is the first western RPG I have ever played. I usually play more JRPGs than anything else. And what really surprised me in Dragon Age Origins was the "romance" sub-plot. It was awesome to see characters develop so much in the game. And they even had same-sex romances. I didn't even know they could do that in games now. Anyway...

I was wondering if there were other games like Dragon Age Origins out on the PS3 at the moment? Or if there's any coming soon or something?

Dunno about newer games..

But you should really play the Baldur's Gate series, if you liked this.

Well, Mass Effect is pretty spectacular if you don't mind moving to a space based RPG. If you are willing to go old school then get the Baldur's Gate Trilogy, and download the mod to make it an actual trilogy you can play right through, there's also some dialogue mods worth checking out for that. It's where Bioware practiced the romance subplots. I don't know what platforms Mass Effect is on though, Baldur's gate is just PC but you can play it on an older one.

Jade Empire was also fabulous, but again, I think it was PC and 360.

And of course there's the best RPG. Planescape:Torment.

I will look those up. I only have a PS3 and well, my laptop is not good enough to play games lol. But if I can find what you listed, I'll definitely try them out!

Mass Effect is pretty awesome, but compared to Origins it feels very primitive in terms of character interaction. Everything's on a pretty strict timeline, and there's not much freedom in that regard. Still an amazing series though. Even ignoring the RPG part of it, the combat (at least in ME2) is loads of fun (and this is coming from someone who is into these games 95% for the story and 5% for the action).

I've tried and tried to play Mass Effect and it just doesn't do it for me. Sorry OP, I got nuthin. I enjoyed Fallout 3 and Oblivion, but that was before playing DA:O so I'm not sure I'd enjoy it as much going back.

Fallout one and two might be good fits for you.

Three less so, given what you said you enjoyed of DA:O.  Though it's still a very good game, its strengths and weaknesses are far different than its predecessors.

I'd also suggest KotoR.

Well, Mass Effect is a great series, but it's a pretty different kind of role-playing experience. There's a good chance that you'll like it, but if you're looking for games that are like Dragon Age, there are few others that you may want to check out.

The Baldur's Gate series and Planescape: Torment have already been mentioned - I'd add Fallout 1 & 2, and Arcanum: Of Steamworks and Magick Obscura to the list.

Only things I can recommend is KOTOR one and two, even though the second one is not made by Bioware its still fun.

The Mass Effect series is fun, but like someone else said, the character interaction isnt as deep as Dragon Age.

I play games mostly for the story if not the story. Thats why Dragon Age has been in my xbox for like...the past 3 months, excluding the few days I took to play Mass Effect 2.

The Witcher is a similar game to DAO, and is very good, with a number of moral choices that will make you suffer the consequences later.

Drakensang is worth a try, but lacks inter-party banter.

If you do get BG1, I would recommend the npc mod, that gives you a choice of romances based on gender and alignment. Similarly Icewind Dale 1, again with the npc mod installed, with give you a choice of romances and lots of inter-party banter.

Neverwinter Nights 1, with the Heroes of the Underdark Expansion Pack is good, whilst Neverwinter Nights 2 with the Mask of the Betrayer Expansion Pack is arguably better.

If you want a great game like Origins (though much shorter - but in a good way) go for Jade Empire. The game was really fun, the special edition one is cheap on ebay at $8 or lower and you get some nice romance if your interested in that sort of thing. You choice on X-box or computer though.

The closest you'll get are Baldur's Gate 2 (although you should play 1 as well, but it has less character interaction) and Neverwinter Nights 2 with its expansion Mask of the Betrayer.

>> Planescape: Torment <<

If you have not played this game, any of you, PLAY IT! It is old enough that you may be able to play it on your lap top and there is a patch available online that adds some of the original cut content. This is, hands down, the best fantasy crpg to be produced in the last 12 years.
