I just installed Awakening so i imported my main man but i didn't have Starfang with me has this happen to anyone?

Last I heard, only RtO items were going to import.

Along with RtO items, Stone Prisoner gear also imports at least on the PC. All the other DLC gear disappear.

Well, Vigilance will have Starfangs model if you don't turn off the DLC for it.

Possible but not necessary.

Go back to the post-epilogue save, return to camp, then de-rune your weapons (sometimes the runes won't import if they are installed in the weapons), strip your party members of any gear you want, and purchase any gear you want from the dwarf. Then generate a new save with any name you like and import THAT save into awakenings. I highly recommend buying or otherwise carrying over a grandmaster lightning rune, because the only to get one in awakenings is to craft it and from what I've read that's a painfully tedious process.

Also, since I knew that Oghren would be transferring over, I loaded him up. This worked for the most part, except that he gets a new axe in DA:A, so the two rune-filled axes I equipped him with vanished.

It's not really that tedious. I made a paragon stout rune, and it took less than a minute...though figuring out exactly what was needed to go from novice->stout was a pain.  (32 runes, 56 etching whatnots, and 63 blank runestones.)
