A Batarian would make for a far more interesting team member than Zaeed at least...
Anyone want a Batarian party member in ME3?

a batarian? why not a keeper? or better yet a rachini squad member? how about a heavy biotic hanar?
No trolling please.
keepers can't fight. Rachni can't talk, hanar are slow.

No.
Why do sequels always try to do this? Constantly inventing new races/profession/oddities and having them in the party.
Why does your party in every RPG ends up looking like a zoo/ circus/ united colors of benetton commercial?

Because if it were as simpel as picking up 6 random strangers with no interesting features. It would be rather dull wouldn't it?

I know this is a rhetorical question, but I also think it's something worth considering. In ME2's case one answer could be that if talent is equally distributed among people in the galaxy or if each species has different strenghts, you would expect to have people from different races, since you're looking for the very best.
But there's also a more practical explanation: blatant diversity is more instantly captivating than subtle differentiation. When it's just a bunch of humans who might even be *gasp* of the same ethnicity, it'll take a while for the player to be able to differentiate between the characters, whereas any dumb xbro can instantly remember the difference between the hyperactive salarian and an ultraviolent krogan.
Of course you can do silly caricatures of humans, as well (like in Gears of War), but a hyperactive, hyperintelligent salarian isn't really a caricature. When you invent a race of amphibians with a fast metabolism, short lifespan and quick minds, they come off as legitimate people, while Augustus "Cole" Train is little more than a stereotype.

What is "interesting"?
That he is of a race/species/faction/profession we never saw in the previous game? Or coudlnt' recruit in the first game?
That's superficial packaging as far as I'm concerned.
One can make interesting characters regardless of race or profession. It's been done for centuries.
Note that I don't mind it as a general rule, but once I see it a hunderd times it becomes too predictable.
These days if you play a RPG and you run into a unusl/rare character/race that isn't hostile, there's a high chance he will join you (the stranger and more unique the character, the greater the chance).

As someone mentioned earlier Garrus has a batarian in his squad that tries to do good in Omega. And i can't really see how batarians could be seen as worse than geth. Also after having played through ME2 i'd love the option to throw certain squad mates out the air lock (hi Zaeed), so if your character really has a problem with batarians that could be an option...

I like the idea. And remember that balak could return! and you can save a batarian in omega plague mission! He´s very surprised that a human saves his life!

I was chatting with a fellow ME2 fanatic and we both agreed if there's one new squad-mate, it would be nice to get a Batarian. They're so universally loathed I think Bioware could really add to the story/feel of Shepard really recruiting from all over the galaxy by adding one as a potential squadmate. But it should be done right or not at all instead of it just being fan service

My Midior shep doesn't want one but Earth and Space would consider it if he/she proved they really had non Batarians interest in mind if not in heart. Though I think it being in their heart difficult if they were raised on the batarian homeworld so if the character comes from there then I'll take the in mind part. If BW does the whole option not to bring him/her along then I'd like a substitution maybe I say no to the Batarian but a female Turian comes up who also is good at say blowing things up w/o bringing down the building.
And I agree with vhatever he should be good at what he does not that he's a poet or one of those you got it all wrong about my kind types. He doesn't have to be soft and cheery but more useful and fitting into the military lifestyle then say a crazy convict.

No. Humans don't like Batarians and humans are all racist.

It could be interesting to have a batarian squadmate. The character interaction with human party members and Shepard has potential.

Batarians must DIE!!!!
Heh, sorry. Still, of all the species in any science fiction universe I hate Batarians the most. Just looking at them makes me all aggressive.

I like characters that are essentially jerks--or worse (Zaeed is one of my favorite characters) so I'm all for a batarian.

I really would not want a batarian squadmate because I've not really liked any batarians in the Mass Effect universe, but if the Mass Effect writers found a way to make me fall in love with the geth (Legion FTW!!) then who knows.
