Feh on a Batarian. At this point I'd prefer something less Humanlike (Thane and the Asari are running on Human frames already) Let's get some more Alien Aliens. An Elcor ftw.

More love for batarian squadmate in ME3! Whoooo!
I would really like to talk to one in-between missions. It would be such an awesome opportunity for Bioware to add some impact to Shepard's background. I'd love to see how the dialog changes based on whether your playing a colonist vs. some other background.
Not to mention if there is anything I've learned from this forums community over the past year, it's that if Bioware gives the batarian a rough but likable personality, people will quickly stop calling them ugly and start complaining if he/she isn't a love interest. Mark my words.

It could be nice to have one only if your shep is clearly a Renegade playthrough...

ME2 was all about getting a dedicating crew of the most elite in the galaxy to help you on your mission. Batarians have been portrayed to all be Human-hating and selfish in ME.
Well, it's hard to deny that we would see some new squaddies in ME3 nevertheless. Two humans, I assume - since humans are 'safe choice' - but why not a Batarian? And there certainly were neutral and even friendly Batarians in ME2.

Yes. I remember some pre-ME2 threads: geth in a squad? geth on my ship? no way! how are we going to visit HUB words with a geth? that's stupid! geth are all hostile, they won't help us!
Then ME2 came out, and here we go. Legion is one of the fan favourites. Bioware is very good at making characters, characters that don't leave you indifferent.
Also, not so many forumites are opposed to the idea of having a Batarian squaddie as one might think. People just have to calm down and admit that it may be a good idea, a source of interesting dialogues and roleplaying possibilities.

Why Bioware should do it:
-Sheppard's back story in ME1 revolves around his service with the Alliance against Batarian slavers, getting a batarian party member would make for some interesting dialogue. Think Tali & Legion, but better.
-Batarians hate humans and their government funds slavers and pirates who raid human colonies. Almost every batarian you interact with in ME2 hates you (the bartender drugs you). Given how they are depicted as violent, anti-human, and morally bankrupt, a batarian party member could either be a paragon of virtue, different from the rest, or an amoral, bloodthirsty killer like Balak. Think of the plot angles, the party member could be a soldier who fought against Shepard on Mindoir/Torfan, a slaver who dealt with the Collectors, etc...
-The Batarians are ruled politically by an autocratic rogue state, economically by that state's control of industry, and socially by their caste system. They are totally unique in terms of the structure of their society, imo it would be infinitely more interesting to learn about them than a minor race like the Drell (as awesome as Thane is)
-Let's just face facts, batarians are the most awesome looking aliens in the entire game. They are four eyed frog people who go around raiding human colonies and pissing off the Council in general. Plus Bioware has put them into the plot heavilly in both games, imo that means they are thinking the same thing for ME3.
Seriously...how awesome would this be?
It might smack of tokenism, but after getting a freakin Geth why not? It's not like we didn't get a completely singular vision of them before Legion. Why not a useful Batarian? Personally would love a Rachni if you saved the queen (paragon) or a rebuilt Collector (renegade) presumably not destroying the base. Though I'm really holding out for a Hanar.
EDIT - actually being reminded of a Cerberus News report....I would KILL for the lone survivor of planet DC1938 to be a recruit. Heat Vision = Incinerate, Freeze Breath = Cryo...

I'm sure my Shep wouldn't mind even though batarians attacks are the reason his family is dead.

Although he should be a member of the Batarian Hegemony, not just a pirate, merc, etc.
Maybe a member of a spec-ops group analogous to the Spectres or STG?

However, we got legion and it turned out to be one of the most like-able characters in the game and a fan-favorite. Krogan were hated and feared and needed to be sterilized but we got a krogan squad-mate at the start, another fan-favorite. So why not have a batarian? Not ALL batarians were associated with the blitz/mindoir attack and one could be maybe a military genius or something.

Anyways, I'm always pro-choice. Even though I'd love to have a Batarian squaddie I'd like an option to skip his recruiting - just for those who can't stand Batarians. Because shoving something you don't like in your face would hardly make you soften to it.

I like it when people are against something just 'cos that would ****** off their Shepards. There are other players and other Shepards who might not feel the same. Besides, something that is unpleasant for Shepard might also be a great source of interesting material and character development, and that's a good thing.
