As to the "frog people" bit, i don't know if Batarians are actually amphibious.....I kind of thought they were just hairless mammalians (maybe synapsids, idk).
It actually says in Revelations that they have a short fur covering their bodies.
And ye, I would love a Batarian squad mate! Give!

I don't want a batarian if it means no chance for Ashley or Liara or Tali or Miranda or so on to come back in ME 3. I don't find a batarian that interesting that I would be willing to give up the chance to have a character I really want come back. And frankly the Normandy is getting a little crowded, I don't need or want 25 crew members when I can't take more than 2 of them with me at any time.

ShepardOsiris - I agree, I would rather have ME1/ME2 characters back. But it is supposedly possible to have just Ashely/Kaiden and Liara(unless theres a minimum number of survivors in the suicide mission to have Shepard survive - Does anyone know?). 1-3 new squaddies for those without any might not go amiss. But yeah, no 25 people crammed into various holes in my ship, and bring back enough old faces as more then cameos.

No, Batarians are ugly and not awesome looking. If you want awesome looking, those are the turians.
No? All the batarians you meet in Mass Effect are either criminals, mercenaries, slavers, and most of them hate humans. That's not awesome, that's annoying.
The turians are cool, but the batarians are better jmo.
Turians=lizard people who don't like humans but grudgingly cooperate with them
Batarians=frog people who hate everyone (especially humans), engage in piracy and slavery, and attempt to blow up human colonies by piloting asteroids into them

XingDaorong, use that edit button mate :-D
For some reason my auto-spell check isn't working here, but whatever, another user in favor of a batarian squad mate! I wonder how many posts this topic would have to reach for someone in Bioware to notice it? Then again I think we all know the comical limits of influence an online petition has.

I think having a Batarian squaddie could add meaning to the intense one-dimentionality of their entire race. I for one like the idea.
This, this, and this again. Watching Miranda, Jack, Tali, and Legion have awesome conflict based dialogue in ME2 also convinced me how much more awesome Shepard's dialogue could be with this new squaddie.

I think it would be COOL and if you get to kill him in an argument over his people Killing my family as a child THAT would be even COOLER.
Awesome idea, or maybe if you develop a contentious relationship and choose not to kill him the batarian could sell out the Normandy's location to mercs/pirates/slavers and you would have to board the raiding ship and eliminate him there. Honestly the amount of plot possibilities that would still fit perfectly into the wider story are too great to ignore.

It could work. After all, human and turian relationships have always been fairly strained due to the First Contact War, but you get someone like Garrus who is friends with Shepard despite his race. Just because a lot of batarians are slavers and hate humans, doesn't mean that they all feel that way. Slavery is legal on the homeworld, I think..
Exactly, a paragon batarian could be an ex-soldier who was exiled offworld, or a Blue Suns merc turning over a new leaf. But even if they went with a renegade batarian as a party member it would add a new angle to the story. I mean Jack is probably the closest Shepard comes to having a contentious relationship with out of any squad member, but a batarian teammate could expand on that even further.

If we get a batarian I hope it's because he's a real bad ass who could be a great asset(like legion, for instance), not because he's actually a "good" batarian who likes to pick flowers and write love poems about how misunderstood his race is and how he loves everyone else in the universe.
Yeah you're right, someone like Balak from BDTS or someone like him would be ideal.

I read that the ME books had a lot about batarians on the wiki page, are the books any good?

Yes, but only if he is grumpy and hates everyone on my team.
If they made one and he wasn't like that I'd be very disappoint

Not before a hanar squaddie. I want to see a Hanar who gets outfitted in some sort of containment/battle suit that makes him look like Dr. Kraus from BPRD.
If he's anything like Blasto the Hanar Spectre from those Illium advertisements sign me up nao!

But I absolutely agree with you that a Batarian party member would add so much more to the game, and give a wildly different angle on the ME galaxy than what we've been accustomed to. And the combination of the eyes with that sinister voice effect.......yeah man, I'm all for this.
They are not hairless. Read revelation.
