I think a batarian squadmate would be cool. They are demonized so much in the ME universe that it would be fascinating to talk with one about the details of their beliefs and society. Kind of like talking to Legion about the geth.

Sorry, no Batarians here. My parents were killed by them, any batarian I see will kiss a bullet. You can't trust them, can't beat one of them at a staring contest and can never tell where they are looking, no thanks.

I would absolutely love getting a Batarian squadmate! How could you resist those beautiful eyes?^^

I think I'd prefer the renegade version but that's not really important as long as we get to know some more about batarian culture etc. ... well maybe he shouldn't be too paragon ; )

The reason I doubt we will get a batarian squad member is because, as far as I know, the batarians are one of the least respected species in the galaxy. They aren't even welcome in Citadel space, and have bad history with humanity in particular. But we never know.

Uhh, Geth.

It even follows a pattern, of sorts:

Krogan
Geth
Batarian

No. Wait, let me think.... hell no. I don't want a Vorcha either. At some point, you have to draw the line. Or set it on fire.

I'll help them with their petty squabbles, the same way I do with every other species but there is no way in hell I'm letting one of them on the Normandy. Not while their hands are free, or while they are conscious. Just... no.

I was going to add that in my post, but I didn't. Anyway, we'll see. After Bring Down the Sky, I don't see the batarians as potential allies for humanity.

No new squad members I want the current ones to be full characters not half finished ones.

My renegade Shep will start having Torfan flashbacks and probably end up shooting the guy in the face...several times.

My Colonist Sole survivor femshep and my War hero male shep wouldn't have a problem. By the way, it wasn't Just the batarians that were responsible for the skyllian blitz or the Mindoir Raid. Many Humans, turians and asari were slavers and raiders in that battle. Elanos Haliat was also a turian (given a human model by mistake)

Wow, never knew Haliat was a turian. How do you know that, Avenger? (if it involves ME2 spoilers, don't bother answering)

I'm sorry but my family was killed by [insert random human race], therefore whenever I see someone from said race I will kill them.

Its almost like simple logic dies on people when they hear the word batarian Image IPB

GodWood, if every Batarian in ME was not

a) a criminal

B) mercenary

c) slaver

d) terrorist

and/or

e) racist

Then maybe people would be more willing to have a Batarian squad mate. But so far, Batarians have been universally portrayed as nasty.

That doesn't necessairly mean they all are. But you are right, since no one would think that they might not all be like that.

As the player we have only got the oportunity to talk to a small number of batarians and those were batarians on Omega (a place where everyone, no matter what their race, is corrupt to some extent) and in BDtS where we foiling the plans of some batarian terrorists. (and it should be noted Shepard has dealt with terrorists from other races as well)

Now to judge an entire species (which likely has billions of individuals) based on the interactions with members of that species who are from a corrupt and negative environment is simply stupid.

IIRC the only Batarians that leave Batarian space are the crims. All the nice guys are stuck back in their nanny state.

Uh, I don't agree with everyone on Omega being corrupt. Are the doctors trying to help the victims of the plague corrupt? Is Daniel, that freaking saint corrupt? Was that Quarian trying to get through his pilgrimage corrupt?

See, Bioware has the complete ability to have some Batarians being portrayed as nothing from a-e. But so far they haven't. This is not a real species we are talking about, GodWood. Bioware seems adamant on making all Batarians experienced in game as being nasty. In that light, are we unjustified in being wary of the idea of a Batarian squad mate?
