Seen other topics, haven't seen one factor in some things.

Trying to decide on Widow Sniper Rifle, or AR/Shotgun skill.

Here's the thing, I have not found any topics that factor in bonus/DLC content, or the Geth Rifle from Hardcore/Insanity.  What about the Collector Assault Rifle as well from the Collector's Edition?

Would either of those two make a difference enough to warrent the skill over the Widow?

What about the Eviscerator Shotgun from the DLC?

Thanks for any input.

Widow is simply awesome, I always take it as an Infiltrator, with one exception and that is when I played a close combat Infiltrator (inspired by thisisme8) so I took shotguns once.

Geth Pulse Rifle is a piece of crap, Collector Rifle is kinda better but still far away from Vindicator. Besides, Infiltrator already has SMG so that makes AR pointless imho.

Well, do tell, did the shotgun work? I'm gathering interest in playing a shotgun agent.

I use Geth Pulse Rifleas an Adept to take down shields and then lay into 'em with my biotics. I plan to try it with fire ammo to make up for it's weakness against armor.

Go cloak, get close, use shotty = Win. Pretty simple and no need to aim for the head.

My Infiltrator is Shotguns + Neural Shock, with Squad Cryo and a point in AI Hacking. The shotgun works well in certain situations, but it's best not to use it all the time trying to be a Vanguard. It's a tool that lets you aggressively push forward or take the flank when an opportunity presents itself, or to help you hold ground when a Krogan, Geth Hunter or Harbinger gets close.

The Widow is a beast; although I've seen some comparison videos which demonstrate that the Viper is surprisingly nearly as effective as the Widow when it comes to raw DPS. The big upside of the Widow is that it gets you in and out of cover a lot quicker than the Viper so your shields will go down a lot less and accordingly you'll spend a lot less time waiting in cover for your shields to recharge.

I might consider the assault rifle since it gives you access to the Vindicator which is my favorite gun in the game. The Vindicator is nearly as accurate as a sniper rifle; but since it doesn't have a scope you can switch between targets a lot faster. The downside is that the Vindicator functions a lot like the Viper; but doesn't benefit from the scope slowdown that the Viper gets so its really a much better choice for a Soldier than it is for an Infiltrator, so I'd pass.

The Shotgun makes an intriguing choice since the tactical cloak allows you to get in real close and throw down a devastating point blank shotgun headshot with the Eviscerator (which is nearly as powerful as the Claymore shotgun that only Vanguards and Soldiers get access to). This also puts you in dangerously close range though and can easily get you trapped and gunned down since the Infiltrator really isn't designed as a close combat class.

Personally, I'd take the Widow; but if the concept of getting in close and shooting a guy in the face while being invisible appeals to you more than taking his head off from a mile away then I'd take the shotty.

There is still plenty of reason to aim for the head, since it still gives you a +100% weapon damage bonus.

Only if the enemy is strong enough. remember you've got the assassination cloak damage bonus and an ammo power too. Same goes for widow, you don't always need to headshot

Shotgun infiltrator is lots of fun, but I think it's a bit of close combat overkill.

Personally, at point blank, I'm still with carnifex vs armour, or an SMG vs shield/barrier. Or even *chuckle* noscoping with the widow.

I have yet to use a vindicator on an infiltrator, but having used it with a soldier, that weapon is a beast. The only reason I even took the revenant was ammo.

A bit offtopic: Where do you find/get the collector rifle?

I see the infiltrator as the ultimate sniper and I played him like that with the Widow, which is just amazing :)

If I want to use shotgun i'll use my vanguard.

It depends a lot on the difficulty level.  I generally play on hardcore and I still aim for the head on just about everything.  Low level Mercs, Geth and your basic Collector trooper will go down without a headshot; but more advanced enemies recquire it.   On insainty, even your low level enemies won't go down with one shot unless you hit them in the head.

It only comes with the Collector's Edition.  I have it, its not that great.   Assault rifle wise, the Vindicator and the Revenant are where its at.

The reason I'm considering an Infiltrator shotgun agent is because I think that Soliders make for superior snipers...

Still, think I'll wait till the new SMG is out, that might work well with an agent Infiltrator.

I agree.  I tend to play as a soldier and I'm lethal.  Heightened adrenaline rush gives you +140% weapon damage and you can still get your hands on the Widow.

The Widow is simply amazing. On Insanity there are a lot of situations where getting close with a shotgun makes everything much more complicated; sniping is much safer imho. You can kill everything with your Widow, as long as you can hit the head.

There are also a lot of situations where shotgunning makes things easier. You don't have to put up with whatever sniping position the game gives you. You can storm and take the best position by force with a shotgun blast to the face, then switch and snipe at an enemy's flank. Shotguns don't turn an Infiltrator into a Vanguard, but it does make it easier to make a methodical, aggressive push forward.
