Hey anyone know how to get this quest? I've read that its supposed to be a random encounter but similar to the Jowan's encounter sidequest in DAO it isn't occuring for me although I've walked all over Amaranthine at least a dozen times by now. (My influence with Velanna is only about 55ish)

Also I'm not finding Sigrun's side quest too but I read its due to a glitch with the quest 'Law and Order' in Amaranthine city which I've done before trying to do sigrun's quest.

Also, my approval with Sigrun and Justice both glitched to 100. This happened with Sigrun after I gave her a book on warriors, legion of the dead and silent sisters. After I defeated the Baronness, Justice's approval also shot to 100 when he joined my group.

I only had Sigrun's approval jump to 100, but I got her last. Most people have had that happen, from what I've read. Also, you're out of luck with her personal quest.

I'm stumped on Velanna's, too. My Velanna, depending on which save I'm going off of, is either at 88/89 approval, or somewhere between 90 and 100. After two hours of hopping from location to location with the higher-approval Velanna, I was unable to get her random encounter to trigger. I only tried a few random encounters with the lower-approval Velanna save, but also did not see it trigger. I figure it's a lost cause. A companion quest should not need two hours of location-hopping to trigger. It never took that long for Wynne's. Or Leliana's.

I've read some people saying it triggers at not too high, and some people have said it doesn't trigger until you're up to 90. Well, 90 didn't work for me. There must be some other factors to it.

I'd say - if you're willing to help solve any possible problems here - try giving her a couple gifts and bumping her up to the 70 mark. Pretty much, get her her second Inspired stat boost. Then see if you can get it to trigger.

I believe it's just a random thing.. I had the random encounter for her quest when I was on the way to Kal'Hirol and my approval rate with her was more or less 55

How long did you have her in your party before that happened?

I hadn't to wait too much. She was the first companion I recruited after the ones you find in Vigil's Keep. After I finished Silverite Mine I went to Amaranthine in order to complete some side quests. Meanwhile I came back a couple of time to Vigil's Keep to give some gifts and unlock some dialogues...

After this I left for Kal'Hirol and during the travel - bam - random encounter with her dalish clan

Hey guys.. I just remembered a thing... There is a tree in Amaranthine, in the area near the church where you can have a dialogue with her. This dialogue is short but it concerns her personaly history

Maybe this dialogue is needed in order to unlock her random encounter

Hm. It's worth a try. Popping in the Awakening disc to see.

The tree is right in front of the steps for the church.. When you exit the church if you go down the steps it's right in front of you

No go. At least 15-20 minutes of wandering around to get two random encounters, neither of which were her personal quest triggering.

Ok, I just loaded up a save here :

It was right after I put Velanna through the joining (came straight back from the Silverite Mines).  Her approval is 17 (neutral).  Going straight from Vigil's Keep on the road to Wending Woods the encounter triggered, I did not take her to Amaranthine and hit the tree convo hot spot.

Possibly the encounter triggers the lower your approval with her is?  I'm not a fan of the random road event encounter / plot triggers, especially when it comes to personal quests.  I never got Sigrun's on my first playthrough.

It could be. It's what I've been saying, anyway. But it doesn't mix with what people are saying - that when they get her up to super-high approval, that's when they get the random encounter.

But I'm figuring it has to be some type of low thing - or getting her too high too fast results in bugging it, similar to how that works with Leliana.

I haven't had a reason to dislike the random encounter quest triggers, since I never had a problem with them in Origins. I stumbled upon Wynne's the first time I ever used her in my active party with no waiting. Leaving whatever place to go wherever, boom, random encounter, and I'm thinking, Wow, I've never seen this one before. Same with Leliana. Get the right dialogue, go out and about with her, immediate random encounter and its hers.

Testing thus far with Awakening, it tends to require me going to six or seven different locations before I get a random encounter to trigger, at which point it's a random group of enemies - darkspawn, mercenaries, and bears, oh my! - to kill. Lather, rinse, repeat.

It can't be the same problem like Leliana's one in Origins. Some people had that problem because they got up her approval using gift instead of talking with her.. Here every single dialogue is connected to a specific event, a gift you gave her, or a dialogue beacuse you find a point of interest for her. Therefore you don't risk to don't trigger some dialogue if you raise the approval too fast.

If it's not a bug the only reason could be that you missed something..but it's nearly impossible...

I remember four dialogues with her.. a dialogue if you click on her the first time you have her into keep, the one in Amaranthine, the one in front of Andraste's statue and the one when you give her the empty diary

I've cleared all four of those dialogues with her. I hadn't gotten the tree in Amaranthine, but kaimana verified it doesn't matter. Regardless, I've now had that dialogue, and still no luck.

Here's a matter to report. There was a locket of some type - I don't remember the name exactly, and I don't feel like powering on the game to load the extra save that I still have it. Regardless, it's a gift, but it's a gift that shows up down in the sellable junk in that tab. It's basically the necklace/locket/whatever of Velanna's sister. Giving it to her shows up in the menu as a generic gift - netting me a +1 - with her generic +1 saying. Upon exiting out of the screen, it registers as +7 approval, and she says something along the lines of: "Where did you get this? This is <sister's name>'s locket. Thank you so much."

I'd wondered if that gift was bugged, and giving it to her messed things up. But I'd loaded the save where I hadn't given it to her, as well, and was still unable to get her quest to trigger in the 30 minutes I wandered around the map.

No, I did it after the quest and instead of the 'so you never became keeper' option there's 'but you were exiled.'

That was the first gift I gave her.. And I got a +7 with that sentence from her. Therefore giving her that gift should not give you any problem..

Just a stupid question... Did you make her the joining? I know the last character you pick up there is no time to make the joining.. therefore if she is the last one you picked up she is not a GW and therefore you cannot finish the first personal quest (which is the joining). and therefore don't trigger the second personal quest which is "the exile".. just my guess obviously...

I had the tree talk.  Didn't get Velanna's quest.

I do wonder if there random ecnounter can happen without Velanna in the party though thus messing up her quest.  I was once attacked by a Dalish clan without Velanna in the party.  I remember thinking at the time "I wish Velanna was in my party for this."

I got Justice first, then Velanna, then Sigrun. Velanna went through her Joining.

Both of my playthroughs I got Velanna first and was able to make her a GW and I also spoke about the tree outside the chantry with her but I didn't get her quest in either playthroughs.

I hope a patch fixes all these bugs soon. =(

Bitterfoam, is the locket you are referring to the one which you find on a darkspawn emissary in the encounter where they approach you from the back after your convo with the dying mercenary dude in the little hut in wending woods?

I think I dumped all the elf-ish gifts I had including that locket onto Velanna as soon as she joined my party but it didn't seem to have changed anything, I still never ran into the dalish random encounter.

There are no other random encounters with Dalish Clan in this game!!
This may be the reason of your problem... But if the random encounter for her may happens without her is one of the greatest shame ever !!!!

Does anybody know how to trigger the encounter? I raised her approval to 86 but I can do what I want, the damn encounter doesn't happen.

I haven't had this bug and I'm playing the 360 version. :/ My first playthrough of Awakening I had ended up going to the Wending Wood first, so she ended up being my first party member. I got her really high with gifts and dialogue options. I ended up getting the encounter randomly while traveling back to the Keep.

I can't get the encounter to trigger either. I must have wandered around the map for an hour trying to get her quest to trigger and it just didn't. I would think that her encounter must be partially bugged unless there is something that must happen before the encounter... but I have no idea what it might be.

My problem with this random encounter is that it doesn't seem to be consistent for the people who do manage to get it. People are giving solutions to getting the random encounter that are all over the board, and yet none of those solutions work for me. Then there are the people like myself who cannot get the encounter to trigger no matter how hard they try. It shouldn't take an hour of wandering around to trigger an encounter... and it shouldn't be needlessly complicated to figure out.

It's completely frustrating because nobody seems to be able to solve this issue at all and find out what the exact trigger is or what it even could be. When I play any given game I like to be able to finish the game and all its quests, not leave a quest unfinished because the game itself literally won't let me even start the quest. I feel like I'm getting cheated out of something.

Have you guys reported the bug at the tech forum? as was noted by david gaider before, the people who fix bugs don't read in this forum.

As for me, the encounter triggered without a problem right after I've put her through her joining. I wish could be of more help!
