I have put a ticket with Bioware and this is what they sent.

Hello,

Thank you for contacting Electronic Arts Customer Support.

We do apologize for the inconvenience you are experiencing with the game.

At first, please accept my apologies for any delay in addressing your issue.

Were you able to run the game without any issues before?
Are you getting any error message?

Please accomplish the following before launching the game:

1. Empty your Temp folder to prevent file conflicts. Click the below given link for steps on emptying your Temp folder:

http://support.ea.co...p?p_faqid=10705

2. Please end all background tasks to prevent conflicts with other programs. Click below given link for steps on ending background tasks:

http://support.ea.co...p?p_faqid=10700

If there is anything else we can help you with, please do let us know.

Sincerely,

I have done what they suggested and my computer crash a lot less, however, be warned, it did crash once since I did this but it took over 1 hour before it did, which makes the game playable at the very least.

I have submitted another ticket explaining the crash still occurs, I will keep you up to date if anything happens. I hope this help.

While I appreciate your obvious sincerity in posting this, the advice that Bioware has sent you is really very basic advice that any person who plays computer games these days should be aware of.

In all honesty, if following this advice has helped you then you really should be playing the game on a console.

I know that what I say will sound like I am having a dig at you (which is not my intention) but if you feel that the advice that you posted will be of use to others, then the only people that would gain from it are people that should not have a computer in the first place.

With that being said I hope you have been able to fix your problem.
If not then the next best thing you might like to try is to post a dxdiag file of your pc so we can see what your computer looks like.
If you don't know how to post a dxdiag then just ask and I'm sure one of the nice people here will help.

good luck

That was harsh and not sure I deserved it. But fine, I will find my own solution and NOT post since it seems my helpful advice is only infuriating others.

But not everyone are computer savvy, just remember that before posting such a harsh reply.

Goodbye

Thanks for your post.  I am a PC gamer, but not necessarily a savvy one.  Doesn't mean that I have to play console like the other one said.

Anyway, I will give it a try to clean up the temp drive.  I have just completed the game with numerous crashes during the final battle.  Thank God I made it to the end.  The bugs in patch 1.03 is even more powerful than the final boss.  I may pick up the game again and try out your advise.  Take care.

Hmmm?  Hold on, let me verify ..

The post I had seen that said *NOT* to follow the EA advice about emptying the Temp Folder was from a member named Kichius.  Anyone who saw my first reaction here may forget I ever wrote it!

Thanks for posting. I have been having trouble figuring out which back ground processes to end. The link you posted was quite helpful.

Thanks.

Well if what I said has caused you to take your bat and ball home then I am sorry. I tried to be polite and not flame you. But to have a hissy fit and say that you will not post if you do fix your problem, will only hurt the community.

You are going to have a tough life if you cannot take the slightest criticism.

It seems you are not alone with finding the basic advice that was sent to you by Bioware helpful. So already it appears your post has helped and that can only be a positive.

But in all honesty, if you don't want to have a total nightmare with future gaming on your pc then I strongly suggest you do some googling for basic housekeeping for computer users.
Cleaning out temporary files, stopping unnecessary programs from running, doing an occasional defrag, scanning your pc at least once a week for viruses/spyware are very basic maintenance and everyone who can turn on a pc these days should be aware of them.
Sadly that is simply not the case.

As I said previously, try posting a dxdiag file. It has a wealth of information that can be useful in diagnosing a computer problem.

Have a good life.

Let me give you a hint, although you may be computer savvy and have tons fo knowledge which can be extremely useful, your first post was outright offensive and rude and yes,I take it personal since I am not computer savvy, but instead of saying" you should go to console games since your too stupid to know that" You should just have posted your advice.

To me, your first post was far from polite but was a personal attack, your second post was more decent. Think about posting before you post.

and YES, maybe it was basic, but YES it is helpful, and even though I was angry last time, I will continue to post friendly advice if I have any, but I will just ignore posts like the one you posted before. It is not worth my time to read stupid offensive posts.

Now, for your advice, I will try that and see what comes up. Thanks

Second reply from Bioware, they suggested un-installing and re-installing the game, plus making sure the accurate patch has been applied.

FYI, I was one step ahead of them this time as I had done that prior. So I replied and explained the situation, will keep you informed of any further development.

Also mentioned heavily in my last ticket that the game ran fine on patch 1.02 and since patch1.03, the game has been crashing my computer and hinted it may be the patch that causes the issue.

I'd say get a better computer if you want to have a good gaming exprience. If you need to shut down services to run games then your computer is not made to play games.

My computer is pretty recent and according to game requirements, my computer should be able to eat this game left and right, so no my good man, my computer is not the issue.

I did hear something about "dragon age having issues with multicore processor" is that what you mean?

Normally, in CPU reviews you are recommnded to 2.6ghz or faster for quad & 2.8 ghz for Dual.

Clock frequencies tend to make more difference in performance unless you are running Sli or Crossfire. Then the advantage of Multicore & Mobo architecture kicks in.

Perhaps, however, as I mentioned before, before awakening and patch 1.03, my computer ran Dragon Age fine, although the long loading time of patch 1.02 was sometime frustrating, it was the only issue I saw, game ran smoothly with no lag, no graphic glitch everything was smooth and easy going. I havent noticed any major changes since 1.02 and DA.O when it comes to requirements and I am able to run games that are more demanding then DO.A without an issue.

I would appreciate if you would refrain from quoting me with a quote I never said........<_<

What I actually said was:
"In all honesty, if following this advice has helped you then you really should be playing the game on a console."
By that I was trying to convey that computer games these days are becoming very complex pieces of software and the computers needed to run them by necessity require the user to have a fair bit of technical knowledge or "computer savvy".
Understandably a lot of people find this mind boggling so that's why I suggest playing on console platforms because the games are made specifically for the hardware.

Anyway I still maintain a dxdiag could be helpful.

edit:
One other thing......do you have any mods installed?
Perhaps the new patch doesnt agree with one....just a thought.

Either way, lets drop the subject and move on to the issue at hand. I havent had the time to try the dxdiag advice you gave me just yet, wife wanted to spend time with me, but will do first opportunity I get. I dont have any mods up so far.

Basically, this is what I did so far to get this issue fixed.

Updated my graphic drivers to the latest since it had fixed previous problems that I had with dragon age before. Did not fix my problem this time.

I dragged my character folder to my desktop and uninstalled DAO, then re-installed it, then followed the advice of a fellow community member which stated to install patch 1.03 directly from the CD instead of the website, I did that, then re-installed Awakening, then I dragged my character folder back into my dragon age origin directory and played. Did not fix my problem.

Then I followed the advice EA sent me, which is emptying my temp and %temp% folders, then emptying my recycling bin and closed all unnecessary applications. Did give me longer game time but did not fix my problem.

They sent me another advice about reinstalling the game, which I had already done so will not do it again. But if I have to, I will, but I doubt it will fix anything as it did not the first time.
