The RAM means practically nothing for the typical PC owner, really.

Big Ram Scam:

Video Card Rankings (DA: O):

Very basic discussion of video cards
social.bioware.com/forum/1/topic/58/index/519461

"Video: ATI Radeon X850 256MB or greater   (either this is wrong)
NVIDIA GeForce 6600 GT 128MB or greater" (or this one is wrong)

(Note: IMO, the practical choices for the two video cards above should be the Radeon X800 Pro, and the Geforce 6800 GS, at least)

This is a suitable upgrade: www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx

No, there is nothing that has ever come to my attention.  And no other game runs on the same game engine, therefore. no other game can be referenced to compare for performance, although Mass Effect 2's requirements are somewhat similar. .

You may want to exchange information with a fellow owner of an unusable video card who thinks he has found a new magic bullet.

There is also a more elderly and not-so-magic bandaid that some people swear by, and others just swear at:

ppl here are not mind readers... you need to find out what kind of video card you have, telling us how much video ram your card has tells us nothing at all.

I feel like Neoren seemed unwilling to put out the needed effort to help himself (herself) overcome the situation.  If he / she actually was serious about getting a fix, and provided the missing hardware data, it "could" have turned out to be expensive only in time (however, I do not anticipate a further response here).  There have been situations in which the normal cooperation between the video drivers and the Direct3D APIs is somehow disrupted, and video cards that should be acceptable are reported back by Direct3D as "unknown".

It's not a common problem, but it does seem that the potential does exist, and like any such breakdown, which part has been damaged is uncertain.  If it was the case, the usual place to start is with a newer video driver, then test to see if that was the fix.  If not, then install a current copy of Dx9 (not Dx10 / 11).  Test again, and if necessary, the last thing to try in the sequence is to reinstall the game (and a digital copy from Steam can be scanned by a utility on the Steam site that can make repairs a great deal easier than the trouble to reinstall).

Or if you've forgotten what your card is, the DA configure will tell you. Look under system summary. And if memory serves, only Nvidia and ATI cards are supported, not Intel. What do you have?

once again you get abused and belittled as opposed to helped.

Please post the specifications of your installed video card so that we can get to the bottom of your issue. If you are unable to find out this information then please ask so that we can start from the beginning.

The search DOES work, and there are plenty of prior answers.  These were just two such:

This thread omitted a possible software failure that might have generated such an error message for an otherwise usable video graphics adapter.  Besides the video drivers and the Dx9, the game installs or looks for PhysX.  It wants to install PhysX for CPUs, for systems with Radeon cards, and that works better, generally, in the game than the PhysX for GPUs that come in newer nVIDIA video drivers.

If the "unsupported" error message is wrong, and reinstalling the video driver and Dx9 hasn't done the job yet, before you uninstall and reinstall the game, it won't hurt to install the PhysX that is on the game disk, and retest.

P. S.  Occasionally, a new visitor here tries to use the SEARCH option, which is defective.  It seeks out the very oldest possible matches, instead of any current ones.  This one was well and truly in the graveyard, and if chosen by anyone unwilling to read more than just one, again, wouldn't have helped the full range of gamers with a full answer, which is why it's been updated (and I wasn't aware that there might be people silly enough to shut off video hardware accelleration without knowing what it is).

Additionally, when Bioware releasd a Demo for DA2, it was very sensitive to screen sittings.  You simply cannot mismatch settings for 4:3 displays with those for wide ration displaus.

This issue can also be related to disabled DirectX display acceleration features. Do not forget to check in DXDiag panel, in Display section.

(How to) "Get All the Details on the Hardware Inside Your PC"
www.pcworld.com/article/114741/answer_line_get_all_the_details_on_the_hardware_inside_your_pc.html

Here is the System Requirements warning label you probably overlooked:

Windows XP Minimum Specifications
OS: Windows XP with SP3
CPU: Intel Core 2 Single (or equivalent) running at 1.6Ghz or greater
AMD 64 (or equivalent) running at 2.0Ghz or greater
RAM: 1 GB or more
DVD ROM (Physical copy)
20 GB HD space
Video: ATI Radeon X850 256MB or greater (this is clearly wrong)
NVIDIA GeForce "6600 GT" 128MB or greater (and this one is more wrong)

(Note: IMO, the practical choices for the two video cards above should be the Radeon X800 Pro, and the Geforce 6800 GS, at least, for small textures - it will take a Radeon X1650 XT (or X1800 GTO) for medium or better textures)

INTEL'S GARBAGE (Graphics Chip) IS NOT SUPPORTED

IMO, the practical choices for the two video cards as minimum should be the Radeon X800 Pro, and the Geforce 6800 GS, at least, for small textures - it will take a Radeon X1650 XT (or X1800 GTO, same thing, almost) for medium or better textures

You provide your own definition of "play". If herky-jerky animation and fuzzy, lowest level image quality suits you, AMD has included an HD 4200 in some of its chipsets for a couple of years, and it's not a "card", but it sorta works.  By definition, a video graphics "card" is assembled onto an entirely separate circuit board, which is plugged in on a computer's mainboard where it connects with a proper video BUS circuit.

Onboard video chips are not actual cards at all.  They are submerged / buried inside of a large intergrated circuit device called an ASIC, that contains a variety of functional parts, as well as the video silicon segment.

Does that answer your question?

The OP never provided any information about any actual video card.  He got no answer.  An actual, discrete, real CARD is a requirement, and the amount of VRAM doesn't define anything about it.
