Nope. But it feels like a virus, as it breaks the game. It is not possible to complete the final battle, and in the rest of the game you have to save non stop as it can crash anytime. It also creates a lot of smaller but very frustrating issues, like lag, broken pickpocketing and broken dog serch.
Without the patch there are no problems, except that the loadingscreens goes from lasting 5 sek up to 1 min as I play. Never any lag og crashing though, so it was no problem to play.

Hm. Bigger battles with more character switching=more crashing. The battles are not that big in the beginning. Could be the answer.

well i got completely through one time, therefore i doubt it. fighting the mother- check. the dragon in the blackmarsh- check. etc. etc. back then the game crashed kinda randomly and not only during fights. hell i'm lost...

Well, it's true that this patch breaks vanilla DA:O too - I started a new game to test this. First crash came in Tower of Ishal - that's around level 5/6, so not exactly high-powered combat going on here... *unhappy sigh* Well, this game has had a few patches already, so I am confident that this issue will be addressed. It's just as well I will have to wait, actually - have another game to review, so don't have time to play DA right now.
Well, good luck to all

Add me to the list.
Played DA:O without a problem, and Awakening keeps crashing on me up to the point of it being unplayable.

Same here. I can't get past "The Lost." Continues to crash. Maybe I'll go play the latest DLC for ME2 until this can be addressed.

I'm having crash problems too, tho not as extreme as everyone else seems to be. Sometimes I've played Awakenings for hours and it was fine, tonight it crashed 4 times. Also, my crashes are NOT usually during battle sequences. One place I've crashed multiple times is in Amaranthine, on the street in front of the Chantry. Just walking along and WHAMMO! So far the worst of it has been in Kal'Hirol (?). It's crashed 3 times and I only just got there.
One other thing is, I'm running XP Home, so maybe that's why it's not effecting my machine as badly.
I haven't tried Origins since the 1.03 patch, so I don't know if it's having trouble too. Mostly I wanted to make sure someone knows it's not restricted to Win7 or 64 bit users.

I guess i can count myself a bit lucky. Managed to play through Awakening on 64-bit Win 7 with only one crash... at the final battle. Only when I unchecked the Autosave option and all the online options was I able to finish it...with a buggy.. ending.. the final scene looped 3 times before it would go back to the main menu.

I ran DA:O nearly perfeclty (1.02), only got one crash in the final battle.
Then i installed the extension (DVD version). Imported my hero. Played the extension.
I have crashes from time to time during battles, for me it think it's onyl when i use the ice cone aoe with the healer mage (i love break monsters to pieces). i only got those crashes during battle, and when casting an aoe spell (nearly sure it was only with the ice cone)
It's a pain, now when i control the healer, i try to avoid to use that spell because i fear the crash.
You can imagine how it is breaking the immersion and the fun.
Did not try yet to check if DA:O now crashes the same way as well.

Crashing so much the game is unplayable - putting it on hold until a patch fixes this.
In the meantime I try not to feel cheated ... I like Bioware after all.

I think it has more to do with the 1.03 patch because that would affect both Origins and Awakening.
I too have been plagued by the sudden appearance of seemingly random crashes during battles ever since I updated to 1.03.
I think the previous posters have narrowed it down. The crash seems to come from casting AOE spells. But not all AOE spells. My first playthrough for Awakening was using a MAGE and it only crashed once or twice despite all the AOEs I was casting.
I'm playing through Origins with a new character now and it's crashed 3 times in the past hour! But I noticed something this time, I was in the middle of a fight with a Desire Demon during all 3 crashes. And, the Desire Demon can cast CONE OF COLD, the one AOE spell that I mostly stopped using during Awakening because of all the better new spells.
While it may be true that any AOE spell could cause the crash, I have a strong feeling that it is Cone of Cold that's the culprit. Maybe the bug is graphical in nature because the act of constantly freezing enemies in Awakening with other spells didn't seem to make the game crash. I was able to get through really prolonged fights in Awakening but the game has crashed within seconds of my beginning a fight with a Desire Demon.
I've been trying to finish this fight with the Desire Demon and the single possessed Templar in the Mage Tower when it crashed twice on me. It crashed once during the fight with the Desire Demon and the group of possessed Templars that you run into earlier.
I sincerely hope that this update isn't the start of constant bugs that never get addressed like the infinite overheat bug in the PC version of Mass Effect.

I have come to a point where it is absolutely unplayable, which really sucks.
I have encountered perhaps 5 or 6 crashes and concider myself lucky...until now. Can't even fight a battle now without getting CTD's... Dear Bioware, I hope you are working on a solution.

Just had several more crashes. It seems to happen whenever some flashy magical thing happens, regardless of whether or not I'm in a fight or if the flashy thing actually does anything.
Any form of wave seems to cause it; Templars using that AOE cleanse thing, Desire Demon using Curse Dance, the Sloth Demon in the Fade's transformation fire that doesn't actually do anything, the tiny wave that appears at Uldreds head when I use the Litany of Adralla, the wave that occurs when I summon the Watchdog of the Reaching...
All of those caused at least one crash.

Had a clean no problem run through the game without patch 1.03. My package with awakening just arrived like 20 min ago so ive installed it (and it updated itself to 1.03) started the awakening campaign went through couple of fights and CTD... didnt have the save so im ought to repeat all the stuff ive done. gonna give it a rest until they fix it.
Count me in to the list of ppl having CTD problem
Win XP, core 2 duo, 8800 GT, 2 GB ram, plenty disk space.

I will keep this short since so many others have already said the same thing. Before 1.03 and Awakening no problem. Installed 1.03 and Awakening now I have random crashes. I have learned to save ALOT. Win 7 64 bit, Intel Quad core, 4 gigs or RAM and 500 gigs of HD space remaining. No mods installed.

I have been experiencing the same although also not as bad as some people - yet - probably as I'm not that far into awakening. Crashes happen both in and out of combat but mostly in the Blackmarshes. The wending wood and Vigil keep haven't given any problems so far.

Im on 32-bit Windows, upgraded to 1.03 and Awakenings...and constant crashes. Stuck at Mother's battle, can never make it all the way through. REALLY frustrating, and at this point will just have to wait till they issue another (better?) patch. Origins played just fine all the way through, and Awakenings started ok, but as Ive played deeper, began to crash occasionally. Now, cant make it throught the battle, though have tried at least 6 times. PLEASE FIX THIS!

Well, I like the game but it is the worse program i have ever bought. I rank it right up there with Windows ME and Windows Vista......glad I never bought those. Come on EA...do something.

I just "interacted" with EA support on the issue. Got some canned responses..then finally, they pasted directions on how to fix the XBOX version, even though I made it clear on Im a PC. No help at all, and I asked TWICE if another patch was in the works...the question was totally ignored. Folks, I think we're screwed for the time being. I LOVED DAO, and am terribly dissapointed I cant proceed further with Awakenings. To quote the Bard: "Rassa Frassa!"

count me in on the numerous customers having much CTD issues (always in battles here) I purchased this game recently so have always attempted to play with 1.03 patch. Vista 32 bit OS ... I even went and got the expansion... but due to the crashing in the "Origin"al game... I am loath to proceed into the expansion at this time. AMD has come out with their newest video driver (ATI cards) today and no mention of DA:O in the updates... so Im guessing AMD/ATI is not the total cause here. Anyways... I hope something is in the works for this (I know.. yet another patch, but it'll be a good one if it fixes the issue) Just my .02

Ok could finally finish Awakening. I had several more crashes during battle only. 2 times it was not during one of my spells. Onr time was during the fight with the spectral dragon the other one during a random fight.
But all others were while casting the same ice cone spell. It's not each time, it only from time to time. And it's not only with the healer, it was also with my main.
Did not try to verify, maybe it's when you cast the spell then switch to another character quickly.
At least for me it was not crashing every 5 minutes like for some of us. Hope they'll do something about it, would be a pitty to bypass such great games as Bioware ones.
