*But all others were while casting the same ice cone spell. It's not each time, it only from time to time. And it's not only with the healer, it was also with my main.*
It's a very well known crash bug in the game - at least for us customers (not for Bioware apparently) It's true that it doesn't crash the game every time but soon you'll start to feel like gambling when you hover your mouse over certain spells. Some players run into great problems when npc's/enemies cast these spells as that seems to crash the game as well.

1.03 and Awakening have really made this game unstable. I too crash left and right, when NPCs cast spells (different types), when I cast spells or just when combat initiates........

I, also, am having the same crash-to-desktop issue. Which, I am sure, at this point is no big surprise. As this thread has been active for over a week and there is still not even a reply from any moderator or anyone from EA, I am incredibly disappointed. When did it become alright to release games before they were ready to be played? As a paying customer, I am extremely disappointed. I hope a resolution will be presented in the near future, or at least a confirmation that the problem is known and being addressed. Anything would be nice.
Until this happens, my nerd rage will be great. Please address this, and soon.
Specs: Windows 7 64bit, i7-920, 6gb DDR3 RAM, Radeon 4890, plenty of hard drive space.

Crashing to desktop randomly with awakening also.Whats up Bioware? I remember when I used to play Neverwinter you guys would listen to community and put out fixes every week.Thats why we come back for more games, because of the great support.I own all of your games but after this mess I just might wait till they hit the bargain bins in the future or not buy at all.

I am having the same crash-to-desktop issue. I am extremely disappointed. Didn't have these problems before patch 1.03 and awakening arrived. I too suspect a memory leak/crash to do with AoE magic since i have 3 mages in my current party and its crashing alot in big fights.

EA support is blissfully ignorant concerning the random crashes. I found this in another forum and it seems to help:
Use the task manager and fix the process daorigins.exe to the last two cpus. This has to be done every time the game was started.

Me and my brother both play our dao on win7 64-bit, our games runs great until we play awakening, as soon as we disable awakening it runs great again, so for me and my brother atleast the problem isn't the patch its the expansion

Finally started playing Awakening (what can I say, March was a good month for games). I was blissfully unaware of any issues. I did a bunch of stuff around Vigil, then set off for Amaranthine. I talked to Colbert, and he sent me off to the chasm, which in turn lead me to Kal'Hirol...
...where I had my first crash to the desktop.
My specs, btw, are as follows:
Windows 7 Professional 32-bit
Intel Core 2 Duo 3.0GHz
3GB RAM
GeForce 9800GTX+ (196.21)

That is where I got my first crash too. I got mine when I found the second batch of spiders, right after the room with the lyrium enriched skeleton and locked chest.mikeszekely wrote...

I'm also getting a lot of crashes... the game ran fine until I started the fight with the mother, then it crashed twice. So I started over with a rogue thinking i'd download another patch later. Getting crashes throughout the main game as well now.

I'm crashing no matter what I try at one particular battle, the final one in deserted building in Denerim. I've tried everything mentioned, running vista 32. Turned off all the online **** and autosaving, tried running everything on absolute minimum (despite being able to run everything on max smoothly).
So fed up, its a hard battle as it is, without being forced to desktop halfway through!!

This is going to sound abit wierd...but I read somewhere (after a ridiclous amount of searching - thanks for nothing Devs) That talking to yuor party members before the battle you keep crashing in the middle of can prevent the crash. Out of desperation I tried it, and surprisingly, no crash. Untils the devs get their asses into gear, see if It works for you

Hmm..seems that I am not the only one here with this problem :-) I have problems only with the final battle. Game just CTDs after I try to use any of the special "skills" that I got on the road. Graphic animations end working just before the crash. Have emptied temp, doesn't work long enough to get me through final battle. Memory leak?
Too many times now...waiting for new patch that fixes this and causes uncountable amount of new ones ;-)

Just installed 1.03. I never crashed prior. Now I can't even start the fricking game. Why hasn't this been acknowledged yet?

Lol, the same reason the other 100 pages of this question haven't been acknowledged. They even still advertise the patch despite all the issues...
My idea: They are too busy penny pinching with trying to make DLC.... they want more moneyz
