It would be nice if they at least acknowledged it. I just got done throwing down $60 - got some of the add-ons too - and now can't even get through the opening scenes without a CTD. I'd be ok with it were there even a statement to the effect of "Yes, we're aware of the CTD issue in 1.03 like EVERYONE ELSE and are investigating. But nothing, zilch, nada. Hello, you're selling a product that doesn't work. What company  can get away with this besides a software company? You don't see Nike selling soleless shoes or Boeing engineless planes., Disappointed is not a strong enough word. I feel like EA is just taking advantage of everyone and assuming we'll continue buying. Not for long if this keeps up.

i'm getting annoyed (u won't like me when i'm annoyed) as i'm in canada, we already spend more on games (and have higher taxes too), i've spent $60 on dao, $40 on awakening and $20 on dlc, plus taxes, over $100 that is now rather usless. come on bioware, u know about this issue, we know u know about this issue and u know that we know that u know. just release a tiny patch that makes peg A go into slot B. as a wise man once said (a few pages ago)

Bioware. For $40 I deserve better. Period.

Well, my apologies.I should read more thoroughly. This string http://social.biowar...index/2183461/1 does seem to have an official acknowledgment. Guess I'll just uninstall and only update to 1.02a until the issue is resolved., Since I'm starting Origins from scratch it's not that big of a deal for me.. yet.

Gathering Technical Information for Stability and Performance Issues

Couple posts from actual Bioware folk about it somewhere in here, too (too lazy to find the specific pages):

Bugs with 1.03 patch...

Granted, they haven't exactly issued a press release about it, but they do admit the problem exists.  Or at least a couple of them do.

Did you try and change the CPU affinity ?

setting affinity to CPU0 worked for me, for those who do not know:

1) open task manger (ctrl+alt+del or ctrl+shift+esc) and switch to the processes tab

2) once dragon age is running, right click it's process, click "set affinity"

3) deselect all but CPU 0, this will stop it from trying to use all your processors, which for some reason is apparently fatal to dragon age in it's current state.

hopefully this will be fixed in teh next patch, if and when it ever comes.

Patch 1.4 didnt fix it for me...
Origins works fine
Awakening crashes always when it tries to load something (dialogues, skills, new areas) and this of course makes the game totally unplayable. Tried out everything suggested in this thread, reinstalling and so... Any ideas?

Game crashes whenever I am in a big fight/randomly when I engage in a fight. This is pointless... I thought it was because of my G-Card overheating so I went to buy compressed air and cleaned out my computer (hadn't been long since I've cleaned it) and still to no avail.

Processor : AMD x3 2.8 Ghz

Ram: 4GB DDR3 Corsair

G-Card: XFX 4850 1 GB

Mobo: Gigabyte 790XTA-UD4

I usually have to reboot my computer when the game crashes to desktop in order to continue playing. I have a Core 2 Quatro and an ATI 4870.

Processor : AMD x3 2.8 Ghz

Ram: 4GB DDR3 Geil

G-Card: ATI 5750

Mobo: MSI...

Had increasing number of crashes during awakening. I have tried everything that anyone ever adviced. The final solution is from yesterday. I have moved the game from WIN7 64bit to winXP 32bit. There it runs without any crashes.

It shouldn't be the case that the users must "cure" a game by themselves after ! 1 ! year of the game's release just because BW does NOT inform us about any upcoming patches nor do they acknowledge them after months of posting and waiting. This policy is just unacceptable and therefore I won't be buying DA2, not as long as DA isn't properly patched.

I recently bought a new PC, in preparation for Dragon Age 2's release (Can't wait!!), I asked the shop assistant if it was good enough to play that game and Dragon Age Origins/Awakening and he assured me it was. But I've been having the same problems with Dragon Age Origins crashing to desktop, very frequently and giving me the message "Dragon Age has stopped working" and these details:

Problem Event Name: APPCRASH
  Application Name: daorigins.exe
  Application Version: 1.4.12393.0
  Application Timestamp: 4c093423
  Fault Module Name: daorigins.exe

I have Awakening installed and the most recent patch (1.04) which I did install after installing both games, but it has been crashing when playing Origins. It also happens to me always in combat, it seems. It started happening in the Circle of Magi quest, which I did first after Ostagar, particularly when fighting Uldred and it has also happened particularly when fighting mages, so I think it must be to do with spells being cast.

I tried these things to resolve the issue:

Set graphics and resolution to the lowest setting
Run in compatability mode
Run as administrator
Disabled V-Sync, Frame Buffer Effects and Multiple Render Targets.

None of these did any good.

My computer is good enough to play this game, (so I was told by the shop assistant).
My specs are:

Windows 7 64 bit
AMD Athlon 2 X3 400e Triple Core Processor 2.2Ghz
ATI Radeon HD 5450 (dedicated) Graphics Card 512MB (even though it says 2295MB in dxdiag???)
4gb RAM
500MB of HDD space

IMPORTANT:
Just recently I started playing in Windowed Mode on medium graphics and texture and 2nd to highest resolution (1600x900) and it hasn't crashed so far and I have been playing through many battles, so fingers crossed. I've heard that this puts more strain on your computer, so I'm shocked this worked. The graphic detail is also surprisingly sharp. I suggest some people who are having the same issues, try this and see what happens. I want to know if it's just coincidence or if this actually does it a favour.

It isn't the greatest way to enjoy the game as there's nothing like playing it on fullscreen, but if it fixes the problem, I'll happily keep playing in Windowed Mode.

I'll keep you updated if I get another crash.

UPDATE:
Not long after I posted, I went back to playing the game and got another crash!!!! (Fighting the Dust Town thugs on entering Dust Town in Orzamaar, so no mages there, except Wynne, but she didn't really cast anything amazing). This is really frustrating!!! Somebody please help, lol. I haven't been able to play this game properly for days.

from what we've gathered it mainly has to do with large Area Od Effect spells, since these are teh biggest graphic draws in teh game, it casues the game to crash, some say because theres a set limit of RAM used by Dragon Age (3 or 4 gigs) and as soon as it needs more then this it crashes. so lowering teh settings usually works, or you could have a completly diferent problem then any of us.

I tried that and when I right clicked on Set Affinity, it told me access is denied. :-(

It's ok, I've sorted it out now. Using 1 CPU seems to have fixed the problem however. Thanks for that! :-)

I'll also add a thanks! Was unhappily crashing out of the fight between my party and a dragon and the CPU affinity solved it. Still seems less than perfect in todays day and age to need to do that.  How many people play on single core machines these days? (question is bizarrely not rhetorical, I'd like to know!)

Hi - any update on getting around the crashes? been out of the loop for awhile and really enjoyed DA:O with no issues at all. I picked up DA: A before DA2 came out and the game consistently crashes while fighting the Spetral Dragon in the blackmarsh area - help :(

I'm running Vistas 64bit Professional and Nvidia GTX 295
