Yeah, my problem sounds simple but it's a little twisted. I just recently bought the Awakening (from the shop, not steam -version) and installed the game. It found my original Dragon Age and everything went fine. However, after starting the game I didn't found a way to play expansion. I searched a bit and somewhere they said that it should start from the "Other campaings". Problem is that I can't even press it, like I don't have any other campaign installed. I reinstalled the Awakening several times, but no difference happened. I also patched game, nothing happens. Did I do something wrong, or is the game just pissing me off with a evil grin? :E

New Game - And then it will ask you whether you want to choose DA:O or DA:A.

I tried that before, but it just says something about background and then you can make a character for the Origins. Looks like my game is a messed up then, I try reinstalling of the whole thing and look if it helps :l.

m'kay, even that didn't work. If someone knows what to do, I would be very thankful for this information. I really want to play this game.

So you got Origins from steam but Awakenings from a retailer?

Well, this might be the problem.

Once you installed Awakenings in the right folder you should be able to select it via "other campaign" or by starting a new game.

Uh, no ^^. Both of them are from the shop not too far from here. I thought that this was the best way to make them work... well, everyone makes mistakes. Anyway, even after reinstalling the game I can't start playing expansion (and after reinstalling it too, of course. With patches, yes) from the "other campaigns" or by starting a new game.

Is there some way to manually relocate the Awakening files to "other campaigns" folder and make it work that way? I'm not expert when it comes in things like this, but in theory it could work, yes?

I had a similar issue, i managed to fix it by running "DAO_UpdateAddInsXML.exe" in the Dragon Age/redist folder. Try that.

Interesting, looks like I get some kind of error when trying to run that
file.

Command-line Paramters []

AddIns File = []

AddIns Folder = []

Manifest File = []

No C:\\Documents and Settings\\Mahti Make\\My Documents\\ found. Copying
over blank AddIns.xml.

Can't write: C:\\Documents and Settings\\Mahti Make\\My Documents

It doesn't find something, I see. What is this "something" what I
miss? If anyones knows, I would be grateful for information!

Thanks for Tojka, maybe this could solve the problem (:

It's either going for the wrong folder path, or Windows is preventing writing to that location. See if you have that addins.xml somewhere in "My Documents" folder.

Yes, found it. It's in my "BioWare/Dragon Age/Settings" folder, so I guess it should be in a right place. How I know if Windows' preventing writing/what I should do in order to undone that? Oh, this feeling of helplessness...

If you have Vista or 7 it could be UAC interfering, otherwise there shouldn't be a problem.

I found a log file from that updater program, command line parameters are listed as :

/addins="BioWare\\\\Dragon Age\\\\Settings\\\\addins.xml" /manifest="c:\\\\games\\\\steam\\\\steamapps\\\\common\\\\dragon age origins\\\\addins\\\\dao_prc_ep_1\\\\manifest.xml"

Try creating a shortcut for the launcher, right-click, select properties and copy the above lines (with your dragon age install path for the second file, and with single \\ (stupid forum software)) to the end of the text in "target" box.

If that doesn't work, it looks like you could just manually copy the text from the manifest.xml to the addinns.xml file. Copy everything from the manifest file from to and paste it to the end of AddIns.xml, between and tags.

Apologies for a slow response, I had to do some work before I dared to show my face here.

Anyway, thanks. It worked. I can now play the Awakening without any problems. My deepest thanks to you Tojka, now my 33 euros didn't go waste! (: I really appreciate your efforts!

Now I go and finally try this game out. Thanks.

Glad it worked. All this time wasted with computers does occasionally pay off :D
