Honestly it makes sense for a human to do that but when my Dalish elf did that I shouted what gives to. I meen that doesnt make any sense my elf was not bigoted but still doesnt care for human ranks and therefore should not bow!

I dont really see the big deal in kneeling. It was more of a political thing. You are the Arl/Arlessa of Amaranthine and therefore subject to the crown, so kneeling before the King/Queen makes sense.

People are really over-looking this.

No, people aren't overlooking this. People just don't buy the notion that it's supposed to make sense.
I assume it's just there because they can, not because someone had sleepless nights over this cutscene and its deeper meaning.

It's a really weird thing to focus on.

The OP wanted the option to do so. just like in mass effect one when you have Rear Admiral Mikhailovich perform a suprise inspection of the Normandy, whiles if you had Kaidan or Williams present in your squard they both salute him on sight and you can do the same. so i guess i understand although i didn't care much about the kneel i would have then it anyway if giving the option to choose myself.

Well you ARE the hero of Ferelden, you should bow to none

And for the argument that it's a formal meeting - um, I just fought my way through Vigil's Keep. There are only 5 people and a bossy Templar woman around. It didn't feel more formal than any other meeting with the King/Queen.

Uhmmm...if you listened to the conversation you will note that the King/Queen mentions that they brought their army with them.  You only see the senior officers in the scene.

I guess you say this because of Lord of the Rings right? even they bow before the king said they bow to no one. the OP only wanted the options, he does like his/her character force to do things he doesn't like.

my one character would and did kneel. my other character probably wouldn't. why should she? by then she could blast everyone to smithereens if she wanted to. Then again, shes smart and should know that having allies is good. ...i've still got to figure that character out

i also felt odd seeing my character take a knee to alistair. who would have never been there if it wasn't for my character leading him on from the start of origins. He and Alistair where bros. i would have expected manly hugs and snarky jabs at each other. man how power changes people....

I can understand that people may want the choice, but then they also need to be prepared to make an informed choice. I can see many people being upset if they choose to not kneel to the King/Queen and have this made a huge issue because they didn't realize that they just broke protocol and gravely insulted the Monarch or something like that.

Personally I assumed that by making it a cut scene you couldn't affect, the game simply told you this is what you where expected to do and doing something else would have been totally off. It didn't bother me at all.

In real medieval kingdoms not kneeling was the sort of thing that got your bloody head chopped off.

I thought kneeling seemed odd compared to DA:O, where if I recall correctly Duncan merely bowed (with crossed arms?) to King Cailan, didn't kneel; and one's own character I don't think did anything, and in fact could be rude, no problem.

I agree with all those arguing that in whatever fictional milieu kneeling could be more appropriate, but by comparison with DA:O and the whole Fereldan ruler being more a first among equals kind of thing it seems odd...

If one wants to make story-based justifications, I'm sure there were good ones in this thread (I didn't review it), I'd suggest that kneeling could be a deliberately emphatic way to demonstrate who the monarch is to those around, in a way that a bow would not.

If you make Anora queen, even when Alistair is swearing fealty, he doesn't kneel.  Kneeling was just not done in DAO.

Nope, not in DAO.  Alistair didn't kneel to Anora when swearing fealty.  Eamon didn't kneel to Alistair when accepting the regency.  No one kneeled to Alistair when he was made king.  These are FAR more formal events than a meeting on the road.  There is bowing there, but no kneeling to nobility/royalty.

Hm, I think it was during the coronation. Which is a different sort of scenario I suppose.

But this is still a very silly issue.

THAT is different.  The king and/or queen are kneeling to the Chantry.  And it's not the only time you have kneeling to a Mother, actually.  In Lothering, if you ask for the Mother's blessing, you kneel as well.

What does that have to do with kneeling to nobility?  THAT doesn't happen.

So I'm supposed to just believe that kneeling as a form of respect exists but not for Nobility.

That seems very dumb.

Do you blame them, Efesell? The nobles act like complete jerks, so you could not respect them if you wish.

No, kneeling in a religious context when receiving a blessing but not at other times is NOT dumb, nor is it comparable to the proper greeting of royalty.  People kneel in church even in our time.  They are NOT kneeling to nobility in DAO.  They do kneel when receiving a blessing.

Alright, point taken.

Still don't find it particularly out of place, but that's a fair distinction.
