It was done, at least once, as I recall.

Wasn't it done by Loghain right after being defeated by Warden at Landsmeet?

I am probably wrong, but I can't shake that feeling that my Elf Warden was looking down at him, as if he was kneeling... Image IPB

He was, yes, but I would be hesitant to use that as an example as I had just finished beating the tar out of him.

Well... He does say that he considers you to be "better" than him and will submit to whatever you want to do to him. Depending on interpretation, it can be counted as a sign of loyalty and absolute submission to you and\\or other nobles. Image IPB

I agree.  Clearly BioWare was scrapped for time and could not implement the "demand a sandwhich and a beer" option.

Lol! They damn well should have! You can tell Leliana to shut up and go make dinner, and my character certainly would've said that to Anora long before kneeling in front of her.

I don't think my post was saying what you think it said.

I personally have no problem kneeling to Anora, granting her the illusion of power while my PC slowly but surely eclypses her.

That would have been great! Then Leliana would refuse to speak with you and dump you if you were dating! And Anora had her whole freaking army there to arrest you on the spot! Shortest. Time. As. Arl. Ever. And people thought HOWE only lasted a little bit? Please. He was there nearly a year. Top 'twenty minutes.'

A question, are all your characters formed after this trope?

lol Most of them. The ones I like at least.

Although I think they are formed after this trope more. David Xanatos is a childhood idol for me.

The real reason your character kneels before Alistair or Anora is because the story seems to be mainly written for the Orlesian Warden Commander rather than our returning characters.

Orlesians, or Grey Wardens serving in Orlais would kneel before the monarch, so your Orlesian GW automatically does when meeting the Fereldan Monarch, Mhari looks a bit shocked and then joins in since she's under your command.

^^^This!!! I believe Awakenings (when they had first initially announced it to the public) was intended for an Orlesian Warden.  But a lot of us where a little hurt that we wouldn't be able to import our characters.  So in order to do that they had to do some changes but didn't take everything out like the kneeling.  If you notice and I've seen in other threads some of the talk's have been about what we did in Origin's really isn't mentioned in Awakenings.  Maybe a couple of lines here or there but initially there's not much, even Wynne seemed a little distant. I get the feeling this game wasn't meant for our Origins character's to be brought over and at the last minute they decided to make some changes for us so we could import our character's.

Now I maybe totally wrong on this but after playing a couple of times it seems with the dialogue's that this is what was originally intended, playing an Orlesian Warden.  And if that is the case I'm very grateful that they did give us the option to import our characters.  I wasn't ready for my character's story to be over, but then I'm still not lmao Image IPB

No, Leliana was cool with it. She knows her place. :P

Anora still has to be taught hers, but that's certainly manageable. And a dozen or so guards wouldn't be nearly enough to protect her from the guy who slaughtered a small army of darkspawn not 2 minutes ago.

You kneel before the queen of a Medeval society because you know what is good for you. I sometimes wonder what goes through people's minds even in from a modern perspective. I am an American, if placed in a room with the Queen of England, while I may not flop about like a Roman Catholic during the 45 minute Sunday workout, i would at least bow. It is called class, excercise some, and it speaks more about your character or lack there of. Considering the choices you get at the end of Origins, for Anora to walk up during Awakenings, would mean that YOU put Anora on the throne, so by not showing the proper respect you diminish her but most importantly you diminish yourself. So you are kneeling in acknowledgement of, her position as Queen and your decision to make her so. class regardless of "bling" can not be pruchased, it can only be cultivated from the strength of your character, you either get it or not.

Perhaps you'd like to explain why no one in Origins ever showed any "class" to Cailan or Anora, including those who were deferential to them?

Your tone is a bit personal...  The OP was talking about his PC's attitude towards Anora and is certainly free to roleplay "having no class," even if it were established that kneeling is the standard way to greet a Fereldan monarch.

I was speaking about the PC, even in my city elf plays i have always excercised class with the king in Ostagar. An elf has the most reason to hate the king. The king probably knows what he knows about the other races or clases from second or even third hand tales told to him by other people. So as a city or dalish elf i have an opportunity to be the first hand rebuke of all that information that Calain has heard. To play right into the descriptions that Calain has undoubtly been told would lend creedence to stories of those individuals. The king is impressed with the city, dalish, elf Grey Warden i have a perfect opportunity by my actions to spit in the eye accepted view points concerning my race. If you come up to the King and are all in his face you have just reinforced his view points by your actions. i am working a Dalish elf up right now and Calain admits his knowledge of the Dalish is poor, he has probably been told your a member of a race of obnoxious short people, where if you excercise some class are polite, deferential, well mannered, he probably does not know what to think. If by extending some courtsey which is cheap, i can push my adversary off balance or give him pause, why not? If i may borrow a movie quote, "the definition of a gentleman is a man who thinks one thing and says another".

Regardless of the circumstances of your origin becomming a warden, you agreed to accept Duncan as you lord, your leige. How you act reflects upon your race, Duncan and the Grey Wardens, and you personally. I will go so far as to say that if i was Duncan and you started getting mouthy with the king i would have back handed you so quick i would have knocked you clean out of your greaves. Hell i would have hit you so hard you would have woke up after the battle probably a few teeth lighter and deservedly so. MNot kneeling to King Allister or Queen Anora diminishes them but as you are responsible for thier ascention it diminishes you as well, the choice is yours after all i just wanted to provide a few valid reasons and some perspective.

I agree it did seem a bit out of place, but I wasn't too concerned about it. As for the rest of them not bowing, I just assumed that it was a possibility that a good portion of the population didn't even know what their ruler looked like, it's not like that have any sort of media showing everyone in the country, chances are a lot of people would probably go their whole life without ever seeing the King or Queen.

I realize that doesn't explain everything, but it made sense to me when I played that part.

Showing deference to a stranger, especially one who derives his status from nothing more than an accident of birth has nothing to do with class. I would offer the Queen of England, the President of the United States, or the Pope the same polite handshake that I would offer anyone else upon first meeting them. Bowing your head to someone else has no place in a free society.

Considering the choices you get at the end of Origins, for Anora to walk up during Awakenings, would mean that YOU put Anora on the throne

All the more reason not to kneel, especially in an informal setting where there's no nobility present to gossip about it.

Old traditions of some cultures such as mine forbids kneeling or bowing as it is the expression of submission and cowardice. But this is Dragon Age, you're in the Feudal West fellas.

Clearly the right thing to do was to shrug your shoulders and keep walking.

She might be dead, but eh, screw it. :D

If you truly didn't care about her well being, you should of killed her in the Tower.

I also hated the reaction of my character when having morrigan in top of him.He looked like an idiot!

You speak as if we have a choice not to bow.

Of course it's class. But I would have appreciated the option not to bow and instead yell "What took you so long!!??" with my non-classy characters.

What I found irritating is that very few people acknowledge you as Prince-Consort. Anora might be Queen but my HN is the one ruling Fereldan, there is no doubt about that.
